- Have you ever wondered why people use the Twinstar sterilizer in a vertical position?
Well, in this video I tell you there reasons + share best position to mount the Twinstar inside your aquarium:
1. In Vertical position no air bubbles are trapped underneath the reactor, which can reduce the lifespan and reduce amount of oxygen mist.
2. Horizontal position casts shadow on your carpeting plants, use vertical position to reduce shadow.

Jurijs Jutjajevs great video!
Question - is the Twinstar suppose to continuously feed out oxygen or cycle on then off? Mine cycles on for about 1 minute every 20-25 minutes; it’s not continuous so I’m unsure if I have a defective unit or not 😫
@@JurijsJutjajevs this is clone Chihiros Doctor ? =D
i have been unsure whether buy one or not what benefits does it bring to your tank/aquascape?
Cleaning the dam thing... Can u show us who own it.
Question: Is it snakeoil?
I would love to see a full video. I just installed the Nano in a UNS 60U and I’m specifically wanting more information on how often it’s supposed to cycle on/off. Mine only comes on for a few seconds every 20 minutes or so. The documentation is horrible for these things but it looks like there is a feature that shuts it off if the total dissolved solids gets too high.
By the way, Jurijs, thank you for all of the awesome content. I’ve been in the aquarium hobby consistently for over 30 years, but you and others like George Farmer have inspired me to experiment more with Aquascaping. You seem like an authentic dude! I’m also a huge fan of Peter McKinnon (I’ve noticed you rocking the hat on occasion). Keep up the good work!
Love Peter, i secretly mimic some of his style 🤫 don’t tell anyone
Great tip, keep up the great work.
Really enjoy your channel, inspirational, informative gets the big thumbs up 👍
I just purchased one of these. I'm wondering if I could put it in one of the open filter compartments of my 10 gallon AIO tank? It could go next to the heater in the first (inflow) compartment. This should allow plenty of water flow for it, and keep it out of sight. On the other hand, I don't know if the bubbles would dissolve before they reach the main tank and be less effective.
Cool video never thought to mount the reactor sideways! Didn’t know that trapped bubbles could damage the reactor but I know they generally start to wear out after about a year. Definitely don’t care for the shadow it casts over plants. Thanks for the video not enough info on these things.
Hi i just ordered twinstar yotta plus for my aquarium, it says it helps to combat bacteria in the tank and the alge(i took this model for my goldfishes) but manufacturer says nothing about combating parasites like ich for ex. Or oxydazing the tank. Did you have some knowledge about this?
Mine seems to be putting out much less than it did six months ago. Do they wear out? Need to be soaked in peroxide or something?
Would you recommend mode 1or 2 for a 40L heavily planted aquarium, 8 months old, with a green thread algae problem? I really appreciate the suggestions in this video too!
Mode 1. But to fix hair algae you should check your no3 and ph4 levels first, this where the problem often is. Too little no3 and some relevant ph4 are triggering hair algae
Great advice 👌
Do you konw if Twinstar (Chihiros Doctor) has any efect on CO2 distribution inside the tank? does it affect CO level?
Thank you for the tip 🖖
You welcome, would be great to come again to your shop on Madrid 😉
Question regarding CO2 diffuser, Where should we place it in the tank? Below the filter's output pipe, across the output pipe, etc? Thanks!
across the outflow
Do i need to switch off the twinstar when i add bacteria like nite-out, special blend or thera p?
Question. I just hooked up the M5 Twinstar. The mist immediately came off the electrode as the blue light blinks. But after about 60 seconds the blue light becomes solid and the bubbles stop. Are the bubbles supposed to come out all the time with a blinking blue light or are the bubbles on a timer and periodically come out? I see no video saying the bubbles shouldn’t be coming out all the time. Thanks for your time! Have a great weekend.
There is a build in timer, and based on the model the bubbles will come out more or less frequently
The manual says that I should not put my hand inside the aquarium when the Power is on. Should you really turn it off everytime I clean or do some maintenance? sorry for the stupid question....
The algae inhibitor works by putting electricity through the disk, it's the electricity that kills the algae. It sounds like it's a precaution, because it's not like the inhibitor kills the fish.
Nice simple tips
Hi, new rocking t shirt wearer, 😎 interesting ,I will give it a try, thanks for sharing , I see you are back at green aqua, can't fault you there, great shop and team.
Keep on t shirting. 😉
This time was a private event and I had some time free that I used to record this video
I'd love to see yo do a video. How does it work ? Does it work ? Cleaning and maintenance. Also there are plenty clones out there. Are they any better/worse. IMO its electrolysis, so unless Twinstar have some magic formula about switching the electricity on/off I can't see why their units are +£100. That might be a difficult subject for you since you are sponsored by Twinstar, but I think the community deserves an honest appraisal.
Twinstar was the first one to develop a product like this for aquarium. They also have done a lot of Promotion. Clones are always cheaper because they skip the development and marketing cost
I love the t-shirt 😍
Rasio wear
Hi there,
I bought two Twinstar Nano’s recently for two of my tanks. They are the right size for my tanks and they do seem to be effective in reducing green algae but both were quite quickly covered in brown algae and I have noticed brown algae on the glass whereas I never had a problem with it before. Any advice would be massively appreciated as I thought the Nano was supposed to deal with brown algae too?
Thanks, Paul
It is supposed to affects the nutrients in the tank so maybe you have them out of balance and it only becomes apparent once the electrolysis changes it
My siamese Algae eater and danios become inactive Within 30 minits after I turn on the Reactor.. I shut it down out of fear... I don’t understand what is going on... please help me out sir!
Really intsresting. I don't think about this position in this category.... I was thinking more to put this between rocks or something but not about shadows or boobles :) Again great video :)
Hiding yes, but I never hide equipment, l actually like to see how it works
Hi, for GDA you recommend twinstar 60p or UV filter like OASE 9w? (for a 60p)
Both work, best result if using both
Hi Jurij, do you know if it has effect on medicine introduced into the aquarium? Should a theoretical treatment be done without the device running?
yes its best to stop using twistar during medical treatment, also remove purigen and active carbon from filter and UV sterilizer too
@@JurijsJutjajevsThank you Jurij, had a sence that the free radicals from the o2 would have an adverse effect. But there is absolutely no mentioning of this when searching for the answer online. An important point to make if you decide to make a full video on the topic. Thank you for your time and help.
nice tip buddy :D
Hi Jurijs, thanks for the vid bro! Do you mind i ask, how do you clean it and how often? Thank you!
There is a special cleaning kit from twinstar. I guess it’s citric acid, but I’m not 100% sure. Once the disc is covered with minerals you clean it. In soft water interval is longer compared to mineral rich water
@@JurijsJutjajevs thanks alot bro
I have never seen any research that shows these things do a damn thing except look kinda cool.
@aquaowner a German youtuber has made a side by side comparison and compared amount of microbes in the water.
Wooww..Rasio family👍👍
Dang. If I had money to buy one I’d definitely use these tips. Haha keep them coming. :)
You should be sponsored bro 😉
Jurijs Jutjajevs haha put in a good word with Twinstar for me 😂
You work with a big shop, they should be your main sponsor 😉
I did an experiment with my tank, 3 set up, normal, twinstar, and air stone on timer. Airstone on timer provide the best oxygenation, no more surface scum, cheap, and is small you can hide anywhere in your tank.
Also do note that if your tank is small, shrimp really doesn’t like these stuff
I agree on the shrimp. Specially some sensitive species. Against surface scum twinstar doesn’t help at all, in opposite the fine bubbles create scum foam. But on the other side it’s not only adding oxygen to the water. It also does a lot of other things that an air pump doesn’t do. So I see I have to make a general video about it
Does twinstar nano remove tannins from the water? I'm asking because i was brown water and less algae.
yes it helps remove tannings
Would I see any benefit in a that is about 2-3 months old?
I have had great success adding this device to established tanks BUT, that’s just my personal experience. Warning, while researching online I’ve heard numerous times that it is only effective in tanks with low TDS Like less than 200. And if I remember correctly that was also stated in the manual that came with it.
Jurijs - I just purchased the Nano, how long does it typically take in a well maintained tank to notice the difference in algae and plant growth once the Twinstar is running?
I doubt you will notice any difference. Biggest impact is achieved when used in a brand new setup from day 1
I’ve actually used it in an fairly established tank (4-5 months) and it worked really well. Although I’m sure it works much better if installed upon setting up the tank.
Charles thanks. It has definitely make a difference on the past month I have had it running. I can see the algae receding.
How often should you use it? Is it automatically getting on or manual? How many times per day? Can you please help on these questions.. Thanks..
It’s automatic, turn on and it works on its own
@@JurijsJutjajevs What is the time duration. I have a doctor mate and I haven't seen it working automatically.
Do you ever run both the algae inhibitor and the sterilizer in one tank?
I dont think they work different, basically same only the amount and frequency of bubbles varies
hi Jurijs, i wondering why my twinstar on M1 running about 1minutes then completely stop is that broken? and how much time need to running on every single day? should run on 24/7?
usually its a turn on once and forget about it. I dont know if thats a malfunction
@@JurijsJutjajevs and when you turn off? or you just let it on 24/7?
Is it a problem to place the twinstar near the CO2 diffuser?
Not at all, the only place I would avoid is near the filter inflow
helloo, i have only a huge java moss in my tank. i am using co2 system and liquid fertilzer but now i added some fishes and usind air pump in it. should i continue to use co2 and fert?
Yes I think you should keep using
Jurijs Jutjajevs ty for aswer. so i keep using co2, and only use sponge filter when lights off is it ok ?
You should use the filter 24/7
Jurijs Jutjajevs i ve 7/24 fluval 106. sponge filter for air
Finally I’m starting with my first aquascaping aquarium, I have only one question, if you can give me a suggestion will be appreciated. When used a soil like tropica or ADA after some years this soil must be replaced totally? Or it is always ok using tabs to fertilize the soil?
Good question, let's wait for an answer
Yea use tabs when the soil is empty
danilo mercuri osmocote
It really depends what kind of results you want. If you want the very best growth, then the answer is replace it every time you rescape the tank. If you want to keep the cost low and you are ok with the results you get from old soil, then keep it
@@JurijsJutjajevs kurz und knackig. Thank you.

Rasio shirt will be available soon, test print went well
Noted!
Hi. I found out this reactor released stray current. Is it normal?
A little yes, but it’s harmless
Does it work, and can you link some studies or research?
all based in my personal opinion, experience and observation
is the plant green clump . on the left side??
What time stamp?
Nice video
Nice .......
When you say a horizontal position may trap oxygen bubbles thus reducing the lifespan of the disc. Do you mean the oxygen bubbles then oxidise the disc causing rust?
It’s same as when you operate the device above water, I guess it needs water to work properly and dry operation can damage the disc
@@JurijsJutjajevs I just got my twinstar Nano+ and 450E yesterday and I want to learn the chemistry behind it.
Perhaps it needs water as the disc produces a mild electric current and therefore hydrolyses the H2O molecules thus creating O2 and H2 molecules?
Yes that’s the basic function
I have a UV sterilizer do i need both?
UV sterilizer doesn't add oxygen to the water - but both reduce amount of spored and microbes in the water. its not a must have device, but if you can afford you can use it
Just moving mine now.. Thanks
Yay 😃
@@JurijsJutjajevs could u do a how to clean it as I struggle with my m5
Citrus acid or original twinstar cleaning powder. Vinegar might work as well. Don’t take me on this one. Will make a separate video about it
Jurijs - I just bought a Twinstar Shrimp and in both modes it just stops after 10 seconds. Is that what it’s meant to do or is it defective?
It’s absolutely normal. It will turn on and off several times a day on its own
@@JurijsJutjajevs wow quick response! Thank you. Does it have to do with aquarium size and/or what mode we put it on? Mine is a 16 gallon Sulawesi Cardinal Shrimp tank.
Yes modes are for tank size. You can also read the manual 😜
@@JurijsJutjajevs Cute and a sense of humor too!
Good tip! But the hype with the sterilizers is not dead?
the hype is dead, however, I still use them when I can
hey dude
do a one month time lapse of one of your aquariums so we can see how the plants look when they grow!
Is this called Hyperlapse or ultra Timelapse?

when' that shirt gonna pop up in your store? is it only in herry's?
Will be available on mosscotton soon
Can you place it near a power head?
Yes you can
Is it aplicable for salt water (marine) aquarium?
No
@@JurijsJutjajevs thanks for your replay. So how we make nanobubble for marine aquarium?
My questions is do we really twinstar nano ?! P.s maybe is a stupid question but im beginner
Yes its worth it
Where to place it in aquarium and when to get start it.
Spot with good flow and start at any time, it will run on its own automatic mode
@@JurijsJutjajevs The best place for me to place it in my aquarium is vertically near filter INFLOW. Do you think it can be less efficient if the water that goes through the membrane will firstly enter filter and only then will enter aquarium? Because in my opinion IF it sterilizes water with electrolysis then it shouldnt matter if its positioned right to filter inflow.right? And if i understand correctly the bubbles are only "by-product" of this effect.
how long it have to keep on ????
it will turn on and off automatically
Which one should I get for 60 Gallons aquarium? Thanks
is it harmful for plants and benificial bacteria????
Will the twinstar nano kill beneficial bacteria?
No
Are you still using these? If not please let us know why. Thanks
Oh no are you serious 😅 the first thing i’ll do tomorrow is put the reactor vertical 😀 thanks for the advice JJ
Hehe 😏
Did herry rasio also sell the tees? Nice tees
Herry sells all kind of t-shirts,
I've just added one this weekend. I'll wait to see the rests.
I have Chihiros and Twinstar for about a year already but until now I'm still sceptic about it's efficiency when it comes to algae problem. I bought Chihiros first then Twinstar because I was too desperate to solve my algae problem at that time especially BBA. It didn't work as I expected it to be. I bought 5 Crossocheilus siamensis and Amano shrimps months after getting the Chihiros and Twinstar and 2 months after I can see the difference, they are more efficient than the other methods that I tried. In the end, these things are just more of a decoration in my other tanks now. I regret jumping into buying these gadgets before, purely a waste of money.
This Gadgets reduce algae spores, they don’t kill and eliminate existing algae problems. And they most definitely don’t cure the source of the problem. With that in mind you definitely jumped to fast into buying on of them (good for them though) I will make a general video that will explain how they work and what they do and what they do not. Stay tuned for this
@@JurijsJutjajevs Yeah, at that time I bought it for my very first tank and I was also new to aquascaping. I didn't know much about that back then but as I always see them often present in some tanks in GreenAqua, then I tried and hoping it will work but it didn't. Anyway, now I know, it's a lesson learned for me. By the way I'm looking forward for your next video about this, I know you will probably explain it better than their manual. xD Keep up the good work and thanks in advance ! Goodluck ^^
YAAAY first xD
Nice 👍
I have been using this one year, I am almost certain this is just snake oil for the algae prevention.... I saw no difference between my 3 aquariums with or without the Twinstar. Funny thing, the only places that ever get algae (green spot algae), are the The Twinstar itself (ironic), the glass lily pipe ABOVE IT, and glass. 1 tank has no Twinstar, the other 2 do. None of them get a lot of algae, light removal every other week is necessary. Algae seems to appear in my aquariums at about the same level even when I turned The Twinstar off for 60 days. There is no difference in algae levels between the one that does not have it (and never did), and the 2 that have had it since they were set up. No change at all. These things are hard to quantify, but after a year, I am pretty sure they do nothing. Maybe its a neat airstone...
Well thats true for you, I won’t argue about your personal results. I can only speak for my own results and I have seen significant reduction in green dust algae immediately after introducing the twinstar. Other than this, I have had great success without as well as with a twinstar sterilizer. The way it works: it reduces the amount of spores. It’s not killing of existing algae, and is not completely getting rid of all spores. It also increases oxygen levels significantly, which improves filtration and also makes water more clear as it breaks tannins in the water.
@@JurijsJutjajevs i read it is most efficient at the very beginning of a fresh aquascape when there is not enough bacteria and when its the phase when most algae starts happening. I got mine yesterday and using it on a fresh scape. Lets see what it does. Might take it out later when the ecosystem is working.. does kill the aesthetics of the scape especially in a smaller tank. I dont see many people using it nowadays, so keeping fingers crossed.

@@JurijsJutjajevs but for how long? ... i have chihiros ... at first two months it inhibits green algae but after not so much ... the bubbles arent as fine as they were when new ... and the replacement is pricey. The twinstar lasts longer i heard but is more expensive
I believe the Twinstar Nano operates through electrolysis. Can anyone who owns this unit let me know if you feel a small current when the Twinstar is emitting bubbles? If I put my hand right next to the device while it's activated I feel it. Anyone else?
Yea that’s how it works, I can feel it
@@JurijsJutjajevs Thank you Jurijs! Really appreciate your videos.
Bought one just because it looks cool! I know! Not sure about the science behind it, electrolysis of pure water may give you hydrogen and oxygen, and the oxygen may or may not be useful depending on your needs. If there are some chloride salts, you may get some chlorine as well, which does sterilise and kill algae, but you don’t want to turn your aquarium into a salt water swimming pool! Its effect on redox potential is beyond what I’m prepared to read about this. It just looks cool, especially when it’s fizzing away! For something that relies on its cool factor to sell, surprisingly it came with no brochures or instructions. Nothing at all!
It's not chlorine that kills algae it's reactive oxygen species. Free radicals.
Twinstar M5 sterilizer in a vertical position. Check! :)
Good job 🙌🏻
That devices must be green or black ; white is awfull aesthetically ... nice tip 👌😉
Oh! That’s brilliant point / it’s reason number 3 for vertical mount, less algae growing on the disc 😉

I have had one on my tank since I started it and have never had to clean the glass in the tank.
@@scottm9605 'improving oxygenation' can only happen in not-saturated water.
