  • Historic House Visit (Inside A 200 Year Old House!)
    The Hoyle Historic Homestead is located in Dallas, NC. This 200+ year old home is the oldest known house in NC to feature Germanic construction elements and we were lucky enough to be toured through the home by Marty Gimson who was on site with UNC students to conduct some archeological digs to learn more about the site, which we will see up close and in person in a future video!
    Hometown Chronicles USA visits small towns, historic sites, and other places of interest across the country. Through our travels we meet tons of people who, together, weave the fabric of this country. Whether we're on an archaeological dig or just walking the streets of a small town, we love getting to learn more about our towns and the people in them!

    The wood on the walls is called shiplap it was used in building houses for many years and I always liked the hard wood door,s not like the hollow ones of today ,, house,s were really built back years ago ,,not slapped together like today ,,my own house is 85 years old and I just love it ,, very cozy ,,,I hope this 200 year old how will be restored it would make a beautiful place for a large family to enjoy and the land could provide a vegetable garden and animals my niece has a mini farm on 9 acres with farm animals and her garden and it in Wyoming and a pleasant and safe place to raise her 2 sons ,,

      My family would love a nice little old house with a mini farm on it. They all love animals and we'd love to grow some of our own food one day! -Kyle

    My friends last name is Hoyle, and his father was from NC/SC area... I am going to try to show this to him... just a couple of things you touched on in the video... the small cabinets next to the fireplaces were warming cabinets... you could put things in there you wanted to warm up when the fire was going. In larger cabinets, they were used to dry, and warm clothing before putting them on. Also, it is unlikely that the fireplace was ever flush to the wall. In early structures, the chimney stack was built inside the house to retain more warmth from the warm bricks. Also, there are many places that sell antique window weights, as people have replaced their original double hung windows, they took the weights to the metal scrapper, and renovators, and antique dealers bought them. I'm sure you can find them online... Are the original finishes going to be restored in this house??? I'm sure it was beautifully finished with natural wood finishes, as well as faux wood grain, paint, and stencils...would love to see that restored!

    I love how Americans think that a 200 year old house is…….really old !

    • @HometownchroniclesUSA
      @HometownchroniclesUSA  Před 3 měsíci +3

      For the southern US, it’s fairly old. But truth be told, there are some houses from this time period this in the area that are on the market and lived in. This house is significant to our region because of the construction style. Maybe one day we can visit some truly old houses!

      Not at all! I totally understand, and you’re correct. What many consider America’s history is young. Though many lived here before us, a lot of their structures don’t exist any longer. Other places around the world have these centuries old structures that have been used for so long and it’s all really fascinating to us! We’re also interested in subjects outside old buildings and have a lot more cool stuff in the works!

      It’s old for us but it amazes me to see video’s from Europe that show properties that are REALY old!👍🏻
      I would love to visit some of the very old dwellings in England, France and other places!

      Consider the date of construction then factor in the probable age of the lumber used,then you'll have a pretty old house. Virgin timber
