Friend at Spring, thanks for sharing.
great grandson of Peter hoyle..
How very interesting. I live in NC & never heard of this place.
My brother who died young spent about 10 summers acting in the SOP. I went every year to see him. (I was free.) I remember the wood shavings and the graduated seats. It was crowded every single time I went. It was a big deal back then. Because my brother was in SOP we as a family went to every single outdoor drama in North Carolina. It was wonderful and exciting. Did you know Andy Griffith got his start in The Lost Colony? Later I married and took my daughter. The last time I attended I learned that it was closing. I still took her to all the rest- Unto These Hills, Trail of Tears, etc. RIP Sword of Peace
Thanks for sharing your connection. We are glad the episode resonated with you and hopefully brought back good memories l.
Excellent video! I loved learning about the Quakers, particularly the light they shed on Quaker Free Negro’s and the Germantown Remonstrative Papers! You guys do great work! I hope your channel really grows. I am interested in any video you all put out!

Yo geocaching is rly addictive. About to hit 100 finds (I’m on 97)
Heck yeah it is! Good luck on your final 3! Have you made any caches yourself?
@@HometownchroniclesUSA yeah ive hidden three caches, and gotten 4 favourite points.
Cool slave elevator
This is so intresting, pretty cool to learn about the architecture!
That's not an Archaeological site! It's a fallen down house from Yesteryear! Stop trying to Bull SHIT the rest of the World, that America has a History! A Past, Yes! get real on the History!
Is there someplace to look for the results of the GPR search? I looked on the web site but there's nothing recent there. This is so interesting.
We followed up after and the GPR didn't yield any results. However, they did find more bricks in the shovel test pits. At this point, we don't know if we will return to film there again or not, BUT we may go to another location with Marty this year!
Great job! I really enjoyed watching this Video!
And were so happy you enjoyed it!
I'm so happy to see those I've also got those Barn door closets the doors are called barn doors and also one of my bedrooms it's been turned into a bathroom so it's huge and I love it😂 a couple of rooms on the same area looks like it just doesn't go like was added on or just it's strange and nobody around here knows anything about it❤
❤❤ I love this my house is this old you can see in my stairways that it's got the square pegs for my stairways and also in the bedrooms there is like hooks of where you can see it was sunday's best and all that and also certain places would be like a sewing room and then a little place where they would hide money and their valuables which is hid very well I love my place soon as I came here I peeked through the Windows and told the landlord I want it is but you haven't been inside and I said I don't care I want it so then I went and downstairs and looked at it and I told kept on telling them I want it I want it but you haven't been upstairs so I went up stairs looked and I told him I'm telling you I want it I want it I love it he says it's yours😂😂😂❤ and I couldn't be more happier😂
I cannot wait for this upcoming video! The Underground Railroad is one of my favorite historical topics to read about.
Same here! Thank you for the support.
Lived in this area 40+ yrs. There are still lots of Hoyles there
My friends last name is Hoyle, and his father was from NC/SC area... I am going to try to show this to him... just a couple of things you touched on in the video... the small cabinets next to the fireplaces were warming cabinets... you could put things in there you wanted to warm up when the fire was going. In larger cabinets, they were used to dry, and warm clothing before putting them on. Also, it is unlikely that the fireplace was ever flush to the wall. In early structures, the chimney stack was built inside the house to retain more warmth from the warm bricks. Also, there are many places that sell antique window weights, as people have replaced their original double hung windows, they took the weights to the metal scrapper, and renovators, and antique dealers bought them. I'm sure you can find them online... Are the original finishes going to be restored in this house??? I'm sure it was beautifully finished with natural wood finishes, as well as faux wood grain, paint, and stencils...would love to see that restored!
Thank you so much for making this video. I descend from Andrew's brother Jacob. Until now I did not know this house still existed. There are four lines of my ancestors that come from this area of Lincoln and Gaston Counties, NC. If you ever come across more history on Jenkins ( They were Welsch and very prominent in both counties and went to great lengths to hide the illegitimate birth of my 3rd great grandfather, lol they didn't know DNA would blow the lid off that secret), Freshour and Hoyle (both families from Germany) and Swofford (origin still TBD) I would be very interested in learning more. This home is now on my list of future places to visit when my husband retires in 5 years and we start traveling. Keep up the awesome work!!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing that story! It's been really incredible hearing how other connect with the places we visit. Take a look at their website and Facebook page to keep up on their event schedule. They are not open to the public on a daily schedule: hoylehomestead.org. DNA sure has made the world seem so much smaller in some ways. It's made tracing our lineage a completely different game and time and time again we speak to people who are learning new things about their families due to DNA, local genealogical organizations, and even just the internet. Hopefully we can continue to build a community of people who are interested in these share stories!
ENJOY the older architecture!!
This old homeplace is so interesting. Looking forward to more videos of it. Subscribed so I don't miss any of your interesting videos which are well done.
So love to hear this! We’ve got one more episode at the property coming next week, then we’ve got a lot of other great places to see! Maybe we’ll be back one day soon though!
Very cool!

Thanks Beth! We added it to our list of ideas!
Love this project.
Thanks! That means a lot. We love that you enjoy what we’re making! There’s more to come for sure!
I love how Americans think that a 200 year old house is…….really old !
For the southern US, it’s fairly old. But truth be told, there are some houses from this time period this in the area that are on the market and lived in. This house is significant to our region because of the construction style. Maybe one day we can visit some truly old houses!
@@HometownchroniclesUSA Thank you and please do forgive me if I sounded either rude or patronising . Absolutely not my intention.
Not at all! I totally understand, and you’re correct. What many consider America’s history is young. Though many lived here before us, a lot of their structures don’t exist any longer. Other places around the world have these centuries old structures that have been used for so long and it’s all really fascinating to us! We’re also interested in subjects outside old buildings and have a lot more cool stuff in the works!
It’s old for us but it amazes me to see video’s from Europe that show properties that are REALY old!👍🏻 I would love to visit some of the very old dwellings in England, France and other places!
Consider the date of construction then factor in the probable age of the lumber used, then you'll have a pretty old house. Virgin timber
The wood on the walls is called shiplap it was used in building houses for many years and I always liked the hard wood door,s not like the hollow ones of today ,, house,s were really built back years ago ,,not slapped together like today ,,my own house is 85 years old and I just love it ,, very cozy ,,,I hope this 200 year old how will be restored it would make a beautiful place for a large family to enjoy and the land could provide a vegetable garden and animals my niece has a mini farm on 9 acres with farm animals and her garden and it in Wyoming and a pleasant and safe place to raise her 2 sons ,,
My family would love a nice little old house with a mini farm on it. They all love animals and we'd love to grow some of our own food one day! -Kyle
Very nice presentation! I’m so pleased that this popped up on my feed today. I just subscribed and am looking forward to part two!

It’s significant that the explosion was only of the TNT, it didn’t set off the nuclear component.
We love you Bailey
Love this! Great video!
What a history thank you for sharing!
Wow good to know! Sounds pretty crazy 😮
Cool history!
Thanks for sharing.
This is so cool!
I brought my mom there for a Christmas gift and she calls it one of the greatest days of her life. Everybody MUST go to Mt. Airy!!!!!
Great hometown fell for sure!
Andy Griffith is the greatest show on television!!
Classic!
Looking at clips in the video brought happy tears to my eyes. I grew up in Morven and Cairo. My family lived in Cairo, I walked to Cairo Elementary School. Teachers there ensured that we learned and respected Black Men and Women who contributed to the making of America. This is where I learned to become an Elementary Teacher for over 35 years. I retired in 2014. Now residing in Florida. I have 2 sons and 1 grandson.😅😂❤😮
What a fantastic story! Thanks for sharing this with us.
I love what you are doing!! My husband and I have been enjoying exploring small towns in NC ❤ Sanford is one worth featuring if you haven’t visited it already.
Great suggestion!
Ahhh love this so much!
Thank you!
