I went to that Lady Gaga concert in Argentina just to see you. I was 12 at the time, and The Darkness were my absolute favorite band. I still have my concet ticket and I treasure it. It was an unforgettable moment. I've been waiting to see you again ever since. The Darkness meant a lot to me. I started playing guitar and bought an epiphone black beauty Les Paul after watching your video for Love is Only a Feeling. I wanted a bigsby too, to replicate your brother's Gibson, but it was far too expensive for me. I learnt all your songs by ear on that guitar and played them on school events (even though I was the only kid that knew them). I'm 22 now, and I'm more into other music genres. But I still think One Way Ticket to Hell is THE BEST rock album of the 2000s, by far. 10 years passed since I first heard it, and I'm still amazed by that production. Dinner Lady Arms and Bald are still among my favorite songs of all time. You are my childhood hero, and this channel allowed me to know you and connect with you in a whole different way. Thank you! And cheers from Argentina!
That's awesome!
Great story. Cheers. Hi from Australia.
@justinhawkins
This wigged me out I’m so happy for you
good taste kid!
The Lady Gaga/The Darkness tour is one thing that I would've loved to see.
Ok, serious message. I have quite bad depression and other health things going on and as a result don't leave the house much. I LIVE off podcasts, recently discovered this and it's my fave! So thank you Justin. Rock on.
I went to the Lady Gaga concert in Romania just so I can see The Darkness. My friends did not know you but they became fans after the concert. - long time fan from Romania from the early The Darkness days to Hot Leg and back to The Darkness. Cupboard Love is still one of my favorites.
I love this guy! Very genuine, very knowledgeable, and humbled.
The opening titles of Grange hill have forever burned into my memory the image of a cartoon sausage on a fork flying through the air.
Love that, some things stick in the memory.
I swear the theme tune to Grange Hill was also used originally for Give Us A Clue with Una Stubbs and Lionel Blair!
Everything about the look of this episode makes me think wistfully of Butterscotch Angel Delight. Thank you.
Cor! Lovely.
Your fashion taste is greatly appreciated.
Please, can the powers-that-be bring back butterscotch Ready Brek... 😋
Haven't had Angel Delight for about 20 years. It tasted like a dream. Is it worth buying today?
@@monkeycrunchie Yes! Absolutely! Especially the butterscotch one. But the budget brands are just as good 😊
Loving the honesty, positivity, and reverent sarcasm!
Thanks Michael!
Well done on the Air Wolf theme. I instantly recognized it. Mike Post also wrote the theme songs for Law And Order, NYPD Blues, Quantum Leap, LA LAW, Hill street Blues, and also the most exemplary and extraordinary theme song ever written in the history of television, The Rockford Files theme song.
Grange hill theme is "chicken man" by Alan Hawkshaw. He also wrote the countdown music, and a good few others. I loved many Ronnie Hazlehurst compositions, particularly "Sorry". Also, the theme from "Battle of the planets" is legendary!!
sorry was Gaynor Colbourn & Hugh Wisdom but yep sounded like Ronnie on the ganja
Seen you opening for Lady Gaga many years ago, in Milant at the Forum in Assago. One of the best concerts I've been in my life. Thank you Justin!
Please don’t apologize for singing along with those tv tunes! I enjoyed that immensely! Brought back some great memories!
"...Rides again..... Again! Oooo!" That was an awesome final flourish and made me laugh all day!
Hi Justin. Thanks for all you do. We're not worthy. I wanted to know your thoughts about Muse. Why are they so appealing? Thanks & best of luck.
Saw you guys with lady gaga in zurich in I guess 2014. Was awesome!
“Me and my arrow” by Harry Nilsson from the cartoon The Point is a great tune.
Justin Hawkins sings retro TV show themes! More please! 😆
11:03. There is a certain love and respect one is obliged to convey for this teevee theme playing. Carry on good Sir.
You can’t talk about theme tunes without mentioning Red Dwarf. Classic!
Good shout! Bottom had a great intro & outro score to, their silouettes fighting at the end was genius lol.
Damn you, whoever asked the theme music question! I almost didn't make it through the segment. I hope you're very pleased with yourelf.
GaGa is the real thing. Very talented! 🎤🎹
Loved I believe in a thing called love when I was a kid, came out when I was super young just starting to pay attention to music. Keep it up Jussy!
That just reminds me of clussy I hope it's not like clussy
His stage persona and the real him are very different don't you think?
never thought my Saturday night would involve watching Justin Hawkins sing the Grange Hill theme tune! Magical!
Omg Gracie's Amazing Machines, love that theme song and vibe. My son likes that show and every time he wants to watch I don't think twice! 😁 Good rock n roll and heavy machinery. What's not to love? Been a fan since I believe in a thing called love, thanks for everything 😃
Fun fact : Hans Zimmer composed the Going for Gold theme tune. Love the Grange Hill one too! Ahh nostalgia ❤
Lady Gaga is awesome. So cool of her to want to bring you guys along =)
The jazzy theme tune from the 70s show called Taxi gets me everytime
Justin instantly alienating the international crowd talking about Grange Hill and The Bill lol!
Love it dude, here for every second big up UK!
The great basist Lee Sklar played on many Mike Post themes. Lee played with James Taylor, Phil Collins and pretty much everyone else...you should do a wee vlog about him.
the german crime show "Tatort" has a great theme song by Klaus Doldinger which even featured Udo Lindenberg, a later famous singer and national treasure, on drums.
But i think my favorite still remains the theme song to ALF
Justin, love your channel. I am an avid viewer. Can we see the pictures of you on your wall (behind you) as I’ve always wondered what they look like close up!
Also, discuss your feelings towards the demise of the key change and fading out at the end of songs in modern recordings. Be interested to hear your take. 😀
Hi Justin. I don't want to be that guy but thought I'd point out that Phil Redmond created the show Grange Hill, the theme is "Chicken Man" composed by the great Alan Hawkshaw. You can see our Stylophone cover of this and many more great TV themes on our CZcams channel ;)
Chicken Man was also the theme tune to the charades game show "Give Us A Clue" with Lionel Blair, Una Stubbs and/or Liza Goddard. I never thought I'd hear Justin performing it!!
Given you mentioned the names of the composers, I'm surprised you didn't point out that Going For Gold was the first soundtrack work by one Mr Hans Zimmer.
AIRWOLF!! Totally rules, and so does Knight Rider, which was so excellently quoted by SOAD in ieaiaio!
I saw John Fogarty from Creedence a number of years ago. Even though he was in his 70s, his voice was fantastic still. 💗🇦🇺
The Starsky and Hutch theme was brilliant. Justin, Have you done anything on Soundgarden? I would love to have heard Chris Cornell live. Never had the chance.
Interesting questions and always authentic replies. And the beat goes on 🙌
Never been a huge fan but you have to admire any band where the singer is the pilot flying the entire band, crew and family around the world in a jumbo jet then jumping on stage to do the shows. Unreal how nice they are as people too!
I’m not a huge fan of their music either but I used to live near Janick from Maiden in North Yorkshire and can confirm he’s a really nice guy!
Disagree with Bruce being a good guy. Totally stiffed a charity he was a patron of (I was working with them at the time). He ghosted them and the charity had to refund money (it was a lot) that was bid for a prize he offered at the charity auction. Really disappointing.
Guys can we please thumbs this up so Justin knows that we still want him to say "and this is my CZcams channel", even though we all in fact are aware that, it is indeed his CZcams channel? Thanks!
Looking forward to the Aussie tour my mate Justin. I really enjoy your channel
Thanks 🐥
I would love to see you talk about Elliott Smith, one of my personal favourite songwriters ever. Some amazing songs
This^^
Seconded!
Say Yes
Thirded
YES

Thank you for all ur videos and efforts Sir Justin thxs again HB from AZ
I saw gaga live she is actually real good live
Thankyou for answering my question Justin ❤️,made my day!
I always love the theme tune from the show trap door growing up,still randomly comes into my head from time to time 🤣
Holy hell!! I cant believe my comment was the first one you read out! I did not expect it! You pronounced my last name perfectly and I've never heard it sound that cool 😂😂🤘 thanks Justin
Iron Maiden and UFO was my first concert. Yes, I'm bloody old.
I always enjoy your videos, thank you Justin, great channel, great content, great guy. 👍👍👍👊✌️.
Justin, i'm currently watching this video. It is a dream come true for you to do this and I am so pleasantly surprised by your commentary. Thanks mate.
Always been a fan of the music and my mate put me onto your CZcams channel, very much enjoying it. Looking forward to seeing The Darkness in Falkirk later in the year.
Justin! You are so great! You even play TV music themes! So awesome!
Hi Justin. Cards on the table, I was never (and probably still not!) a huge Darkness fan, but I stumbled across your channel the other day and have had loads of fun and entertainment watching your videos over the last couple of days. You seem like a proper decent geezer. Subbed, and huge respect.
Hey Justin, I stumbled over your channel a few days ago. I like the topics you deal with and your way of commentary. I agree lots of times, at other times it's food for thought. Also I think you are a super funny guy, no video goes by without me having a good laugh.
It took me some videos to realize who you actually are (I have heard of The Darkness, namely listened to 'Barbarian' a couple of times).
You've got an inspiring history, keep it up 👏
Thanks Justin! You're the best!
Cheers Mike!
Saw Lady Gaga live in Stockholm 2 nights ago.. briljant in every way.
Hey Justin. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment. Top man. I look forward to your album of 80s TV themes featuring your rendition of 'Going For Gold'. Keep up the excellent work. \m/ :D
Hi Justin .. great channel.. your intelligence kicks my fatigue in the face.. I think so much about what your saying my brain wakes up.. thanks man..
Ha this is so cool. TV jingles!♡
Much love to you Mr. Hawkins.
Yes- I love well composed theme songs from yesterdays and my partner always gives me the eye roll whenever I point out the mnemonic devices used for shows and film scores! You're the best... Again! 🙏
The music is as important as the main cast
"what are the artistic considerations?" brilliant. as is this channel. learning and laughing a ton. many thanks!
Just saw that your bands playing in Sydney soon, I’ll be there 🤘🏻
Just woke my wife up with that Grange Hill rendition. Didn’t help that I was playing ‘Givin’ Up’ really loud yesterday, which she also told me to turn off. Love this channel so much! Urgent by Foreigner another new favourite. Thanks Justin!
Hi Justin! LOVE your channel. My first taste of The Darkness was School of Rock. What an amazing soundtrack. I remember looking up the bands to even see if some of them were real (it was 2003)! That was the soundtrack of my family's life, I was Dewey to my kids, teaching rock & roll. My daughter & I are at almost every Darkness show in our town. (You guys have the best VIP, thank-you). She is now 25 and her favourite Darkness album is OWTTH. Are you Dewey to your daughter? Has she figured out how awesome you are yet, and who has musical control in the car?
I was such a stereotypically angry young dummy in my 20s who couldn't appreciate The Darkness when the first record came out.
Well, I'm rectifying that as I approach 40! Love your music, love the channel.
Back in the day Lady Gaga was in a Led Zeppelin tribute band.
Great as always
Your is the only channel I talk back to. Typically after you introduce yourself I always say out loud. ""Yes you are, (Justin Hawkins) thank you for being in my house." Thought I should actually transmit that sentiment at some point. I love your everything, hope you live forever. Rock on Donkey Kong.
I also talk back to Justin, especially when he says things like “do you know what I mean by that?” 😅😂 glad to find out it’s not just me!
just want to say that your gig in Peru was one of the greatest show ive seen
Alan Hawkshaw wrote the Grange Hill Theme. It's actually called Chicken Man, and was previously used - possibly contemporaneously - on Ask Aspel, or was it Give Us a Clue? Something Michael Aspel related, anyway.
Nice of Gaga to have afforded you that experience. Obviously, you'd earned it.
I wish I'd gone to South America to play when I had the chance in 80-81. I chose to pursue my stuff. Jammed with them further down the road, Micki Skin was an interesting, cool chick, a vet of the T.O. punk scene. I hung with the drummer for awhile, took some comfort that she'd told Steve Jones to shove off.
It's the time of day, a numbers game, etc. Hmmmph.
Cheers.
Thank you for answering. You settled an argument between my writing partner and myself. I lost but I still love you :)
Superb rendition of Grange Hill 👌😂
More theme songs please! Always loved the guitar solo on the intro theme to Red Dwarf!
Nailed the Grange Hill,😁
Thanks Justin, always interesting and entertaining! For your next comments day: I heard you talk about a tough media day you had in Japan. I am a long term resident there and understand that it is a fun but sometimes mystifying place. I would love to hear any anecdotes of your experiences in Japan. Please come back again with The Darkness! Love the channel! - Nick
It was great to see Lady Gaga in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 but it was incredibly awesome to see The Darkness 🖤
I'm commenting before hitting the lake for a bit of a float... beer in one hand and a Bluetooth device blasting the Darkness. Enjoy!
♡ your channel
Pete Townshend loves Mike Post so much he wrote a song about him for one of The Two albums.
Justin, I feel this is only the second video I have heard you use the soundboard. More soundboard, please. Thank you for the great content every day, sir.
Complimenti per il concerto a Pordenone 👍
Question- You often talking about the importance of looking after the vocals and body, what routines do you do to keep that sweet vocal style you have? Love your uploads, they are the highlight of my day. Thankyou.
Mate, please don't apologise for doing all the TV show intros. I hope you don't take this the wrong way but it was my favourite part of this video, but only I think as I got to play along. Only two I struggled with where Going for Gold & Magnum. Knew I'd heard them before but just couldn't place them. Airwolf & The A-Team I got almost instantly & just reminded me of Saturday evenings in front of the TV lol cheers again mate, really enjoyed this one
The Darkness do TV Themes seems like a good idea for the next album
For TV theme songs, yes on Mike Post. He wrote a million and a half of the best TV theme shows in the '80s and '90s.
Then produced the worst Van Halen album
I met you at a signing session at sweden rock festival 2009 when you were there with Hot leg, you signed my permission to land vinyl, one of the best moments of my life ❤️
Comments day
Hi. I watch your episodes every morning while breakfasting...
Could you do a critique on your opening theme song? What inspired the melody, what style, which chords you use and why, what inspired the title of your show etc. 😊
Rammstein too said once they do marriage counselling to work well together
Great vid Justin, I was thinking of the last question and the band “Shiner” came to mind. I saw them back in the day when their album “Luna Divinia” and loved them live. I didn’t think the studio album gave the same feeling as the live performance. I think the bass was lost in the mix. I think they may have remastered it. Anyway, check out Shiner if you haven’t heard of them 😀
Lol great rendition of Grange hill. You always make me giggle. Cheers
Today I hit "like" as you blasted out a few seconds of flawless Airwolf theme! - thank you :)
When reading the TV theme question I immediately thought Jeeves and Wooster theme. Then tried to think of a second one and thought of The Bill. One second later Justin starts talking about The Bill !! Some other great ones: Only Fools and Horses (opening theme and end credits theme are equally cool); Murder, She Wrote; Poirot (starring David Suchet).
i full LOL'ed when you did airwolf!
Comments Day!! Hey Hawkster, I remember back in yesteryear, seeing you in a right old dodgy horror movie film. Did you enjoy the experience, and would you want to become more of an actor. You know, like the fella from 30 Seconds to Mars. Love the channel, keep it up.
Classic theme tunes, oh yes, need more of those! Thunder Cats XD
Star-fleet by Brian May was wicked!
Hey Justin - you should do a whole episode just on your favourite TV Themes!
Well, that’s the Going for Gold theme tune stuck in my head.
Theme tune special please Justin! Looking forward to your take on Antiques Roadshow already!
My husband primarily plays a Steve Harris issue P-bass. Super sexy! Lake placid blue with wine red pick guard. Gorgeous tone with his Genzler cabs and Quilter head.
Hah! When you did Magnum PI I was literally shouting at the computer: "what about the A-Team?!" And then you brought it in home. Thinking about 70s TV themes, I would probably-somewhat-tongue in-cheek put out Rainbow, or for that special TOTP performance, the Wombles. Am I showing my age here? Found out yesterday that one of my daughter's friends' dad is in Gorillaz. That was a "what the ****?" moment. I shall finish watching this and then go watch Feel Good Inc. Maybe it will instill some youthful jouissance.
OMG, clearing out my parents house and in a box of stuff marked with my name was a signed photo of Uncle Bulgaria 🤣
I suspect Justin may have a special place in his heart for the Rockford Files theme as well.
