Except Mazda has just as capable awd systems as Subaru AND it’s not made into a CVT so it would probably be better. People don’t take them off roads though because they aren’t “off-road looking” and then it has a little less ground clearance if you don’t lift it.

Nice job on this video review. It is reviews like this that moved the Mazda CX9 to our short list. We ended up with a '21 CX9 GT. I agree with the quality and excellent driving dynamics. So much better that the other 3 row SUVs we test drove. As far as driving it in these off-road conditions in this video, I'd have no issue driving in them, not what I'd consider all that off-road, these dirt roads are pretty benign. Of course after a heavy rain, forget about it ... no way.

CX-9 is way way better ride than the forerunner. have an 02 Tacoma that will never die and didn't want another truck ride. The CX-9 torque is really good. Rides like a sport SUV. 22 mpg commute in traffic and 26 highway. Cant complain there. And the CX-9 hauls and hitches (backup camera) way better than my tacoma with my single axle trailer. (3000lb is about the limit I will haul with it once or twice a year). If it makes it past 150K like all my other mazdas without major service than it was a great choice.

It looks like the system was actually able to apply enough brake effort to completely stop the wheel that was off the ground. I wonder if the ability for it to do this is tied to a suspension position sensor that will only allow it when the system is manually activated and when a wheel is at full droop... This would make sense, as you wouldn't want the system to do this around a hard corner on the road.

I bought a new 2021 Mazda CX-5. I believe the CX-9 has the same engine. It has burned engine oil from day one and getting progressively worse. I looked up and found a bulletin for my car to be repaired. I took it in and they agreed that my car fell under that bulletin according to the VIN but, that I had to wait for the engine light to come on. By my calculation that won't happen until one oil change after my warranty is up. Don't take a chance and buy Mazda’s. They don't stand by their product unlike Honda. Mazda will do whatever it takes to avoid paying to fix the problem, even when they themselves admit that there's a problem. My advice, stick to Hondas and Toyotas. I’ve had problems with their cars in the past but, they always fixed my warranty issues without question and after that they ran forever. Don’t fall for talking point that Toyota and Mazda are now collaborating and even use the same assembly line. It means nothing. There's a class action lawsuit against them (Haven't responded). I personally have filed with the Mazda, BBB, Attorney General, and a consumer agency. It's been two weeks and nothing. I'm lining up a lawyer as my last resort. Don't go through this hell, buy a Toyota or Honda instead.

I would strongly recommend not buying a Mazda. We purchased a brand new 2016 Mazda CX9 and within 2 years had problems with a rough idle. Was told after second year it just needed new spark plugs. Dealer could never recreate rough idle. 4 years later we took it in for an oil change and was told the cylinder head was leaking coolant.....Cylinder heads on back order for two months due to known problem of leaking. the only solution was either a refurbished engine or New engine from dealer. Warranty just expired but dealer and Mazda just say “sorry either return your loaner car or replace the engine at your cost” Horrible experience......$4600.00 lesson learned. Please do yourself a favor and do not purchase a $40,000 car from Mazda only to have to purchase a $4600.00 engine in less than 4 years and trade in value now only $14,000 after new engine. NEVER again!
