  • This video is about How to home made the Mini 9:1 or Mini 49:1 UNUN transformers (designed by me OM0ET). In the next video I will test them in a real conditions with the antenna wire, rope and antenna analyzer.
    You can buy finished Mini UNUNs here on my website: www.om0et.com

    What a nice coincidence, watching this video while turning the dial on the 20m band and finding you calling CQ. That doesn't happen every day! Very nice and tidy build indeed. Keep on doing the good stuff, Paul!

    Hi Paul, very neat build! I've made some very similar to that 9:1, but without the CP terminal, rather I built a second 1:1 choke balun which I connect on the end of the feed line such that the counter poise is the sheild of the feed line on the antenna side and RF is choked off from the radio side.
    The "balun inside plastic tubing" is such a nice compact and versatile format for portable! I'm currently making one with an AM broadcast interference filter in it to protect from front end overload when operating my x6100 within range of a strong broadcaster...
    Love your channel and thanks for your content!

    • @OM0ET
      @OM0ET  Před rokem +1

      Thank you so much! :) Advantage of to have an extra terminal for a counterpoise is that you can choose if you want to have an extra wire or to use the feedline as a counterpoise ;) Congrats to your own similar project! ;)

    Paul... have you ever measured the efficiency of those 49:1 UNUN's? If not, take two of em, tie em together, put a measured 10 watts on various bands (into a wattmeter) then 10 watts through the 2 tied together baluns (they should be able to handle that) measure the power you get at the wattmeter then double it...(you really want to measure the loss of just 1 balun) Tell us what you get?

    Hi Paul, great video, thank you. maybe this has already been asked but I don’t know. In the 9:1, is there a problem that the solder joints made at 37:51 on the toroid are touching the toroid or even touching each other as it moves in my rucksack ? Does this cause a problem ?

  • @HamRadioPortableOperations

    Super compact, very nice! Would be great for backpack portable. Great work. Would you advised against using an epoxy resin for potting or would there be no real advantage? Also would be great to see an RF 1:1 common mode choke version. 👍73
