The problem I have today is when I try to tell young Blacks about some of our history, they don't want to hear it. Somehow, they follow some old teachings of subservience that should have died decades ago.
The name came from Native American Indians because the buffalo was a fierce animal and because of that, the Black Soldiers reminded them of the buffalo because of the color of their skin and their hair resembled the buffalo's fur.
I'm a so called Black man, I served in Desert Storm during my time in the Navy. I was a Seabee, the same as a ground soldier. This identifies me as a Buffalo soldier !
Bought a Buffalo soldier ornament at a yard sale for 1 $ because i remembered the Bob Marley song, through research I realized how gray it was back then, but I'm inspired.

Many native Americans WERE black. The Seminoles in southern Florida were black even according to Andrew Jackson. I'm black and even a "native American" man said "you're Choctaw" being from Oklahoma, I already knew I was part Indian but .....

African Americans deserve better investment in their schools, free college education, companies should be required to employ a certain minimum number of black people, and shouldn’t pay tax for ten years

My great-grandfather was born in Mexico 1902 and in order for him to become a u.s. citizen he had to join the Army and become a Buffalo Soldier yes that's right my great-grandfather on my mother's side was a Mexican American Buffalo Soldier till this day he is buried next to my other ancestors in Nogales Arizona. I've also got Spanish Yaqui and Cherokee blood in me as well, on my father's side my great-grandfather fought the Japanese in the South Pacific I've got a long line of service in my family and look forward to joining the Navy and just a few years.

Incorrect, natives did fight with the Buffalo Soldiers as scouts and trackers, the Seminoles were a mixture of natives and Africans who escaped slavery from what is now Florida. They were cavalry scout Buffalo soldiers.
We celebrate them and wonder why Black and brown relationships have struggled. I forgive them, but this is a sad history. They should have lead a rebellion

We ( buffalo soldiers) did what we had to do as a condition to be freemen. I’m extremely proud of our brothers.

The 1st/9th continued it's legacy in Vietnam. They were the scouts for the 1st Calivery Division during the Vietnam War.
