    Technically the Cricut Joy doesn't support Print Then Cut functions. But, there is a cool work around that you can use to do it anyway. On the surface, it seems complicated but really it's just a matter of following several steps to create a template that you can use over and over again. Print Then Cut stickers can be made in no time once you have the template ready to go and know how to use it. Join me to learn how!

    I bought my daughter a Cricut Joy for Christmas because of the compact size. It's perfect for her college apartment. She was so excited to make stickers but unfortunately I didn't research enough and didn't realize the Joy can't print then cut. (I have the Maker) We stumbled upon your video and she is so excited to be able to try this out. Thank you for your clear tutorial! Looking forward to watching your other videos!

      Thank you so much!! I need to let you know, however, that due to a change that Cricut made to Cricut Design Space a few months ago, you are no longer able to print from any machine in Cricut Design Space. You now have to own a larger machine to do it. But, I have an updated version already filmed that will be available on CZcams on Monday, July 15. If you want to see if before that, it will debut at the Create with Cricut Joy summit that is free and happening July 11 - 14. It will be shown on the 11th there (or you can watch it now with a VIP Pass). If you're interested, you can sign up for the free summit at createwithcricutjoy.com No pressure - just want to let you know. I hope that helps! 😊

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks! Cricut recently updated Design Space so the part where you can print then cut the design using any machine is no longer the case in the software. If you've registered another machine in Design Space that will print then cut (like an Explore or Maker series machine) you can switch to that one to do that part. Otherwise you have to do the actual printing from another program now, like Canva or Gimp (or any graphics program that won't change the dimensions of the rectangle). With the update, Cricut has disabled the ability to choose a machine you haven't registered, as I showed in this older video, so that's an unfortunate development for this workaround. I'll do an updated version of this tutorial soon since that's a pretty major change.

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks so much! Unfortunately, all of the steps I show in this video only work if you have another Cricut machine that can do print then cut officially (like an Explore or Maker series machine) because Cricut has recently disabled the ability to choose any machine for the print then cut part during a recent update to Design Space. I will do an updated version of this hack soon to show how you can print the sticker layout and rectangle using a different program, but in the meantime, that part of this video will only work if you've registered another machine in Design Space. Not a great development on the part of Cricut, I'm afraid.

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks so much! Unfortunately, Cricut has changed Design Space since I filmed this and you are no longer able to choose any machine to do the Print part for the stickers. If you already own a Maker or Explore series machine that is registered in Cricut Design Space, then it will work for you. If not, you're going to have to print the stickers and rectangle out using another program like Word. The easiest way to do that is to add the sticker images into the rectangle in Canva and download it as a different image from the plain rectangle, then print it (make sure the size stays the same) using another program. Then you'll have to upload that image to Design Space as a Cut file, remove the background, add an offset around the sticker parts if you want to and then cut them out. Do that part after drawing the rectangle on your mat. I hope that all makes sense. I will have an updated version of the video out soon.

    I'm so sorry you had to go through this. People that craft are on many levels of sophistication and knowledge about how things work, especially on the internet. I accidentally ran across you with this video and it's too bad you felt you had to apologize but you were very gracious and understanding. The other side of the spectrum is that there is a tendency for people now to become too easily offended and expect others to cater to that kind of self absorption without thinking something through as to the why's of something. Anyway, I will watch your videos and see if they can assist me in my new venture with the Cricut Joy! Blessings to you!

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, it looks like Canva has removed that as a shape option. Now you'll need to use two solid squares (turn them into rectangles) - make one black and one white. Have the black one fill the entire 4" x 9" shape. Then, put the white one inside the black one, slightly smaller so you have a black border showing all the way around the white rectangle (make the white one 3.75" x 8.75" for a 1/8" border). The guidelines in Canva will help you get it perfectly centered on the black rectangle. You won't be able to remove the background if you have a pro account because there isn't a background with this technique. But you can remove the white part in Design Space when you upload it. I hope that makes sense.

      Thanks! I am a big fan of the Joy. Just so you know, part of this tutorial is out of date as Cricut has just recently updated Cricut Design Space so you can no longer select any machine for the print then cut part (it has to be registered on your account - ugh). If you have a larger machine that can print then cut, you can use that one for that part of the process. If you don't then you'll have to create and print out the rectangle with the images inside using another program, like Canva or Gimp. Hopefully this won't cause you too many problems. I will do an update for this video soon showing how to work around this newly imposed problem. I wish Cricut hadn't done that...

When I go to the print part, after switching from Joy to a different machine to print out on paper, I get a message to install the machine I chose, no matter which one. I think Cricut adjusted something in their software/firmware so you can no longer use this hack. Don't know if it's just me, or others are now having the same issues.

      @@yvievaratharajan8421 Yes, Cricut did an update recently and disabled the ability to use any machine for Print Then Cut. Very annoying! I believe you can instead layout the stickers inside the rectangle in Canva first and then download the whole image as a PDF. Then you'd need to upload it as an image file (remove white background if needed and use cut instead of print then cut) into Design Space and turn off/hide the sticker images while you write the rectangle on the mat. Then add an offset to the sticker images (if desired), flatten them with their offset and then try cutting them out. This should work although I admit I have yet to try it. I'll do an update on this video soon.

I am having issues uploading, I am using different formats, get message, Circuit Access needed- Is there a way to upload images in free account? 9.99 per month seems pricey with limitations of Joy. Any suggestions? Thank you

      Yup, you can upload your own images into the free account. There is an Upload button on the bottom of the left hand tool bar. If you click that it takes you to the Upload screen which should walk you through the process. It seems complicated at first but gets easier once you've done it a few times.. If its an .SVG file, it will come in with all of its layers so that's nice. I've got a video that includes me doing that in the beginning (czcams.com/video/nlsl4oeLmS/video.html) but it is a very basic upload of an SVG file so you can run into more screens than what I do with that file when uploading your own image which could be confusing in the beginning. I will have also one specifically on uploading a flat image file and turning it into a cut file in a couple of weeks. But you can also do a search in CZcams on something like "uploading an image to Cricut Design Space" and a bunch of videos will show up to walk you through it. Uploading my own images is almost entirely what I do with Cricut Design Space to be honest.

      Yes, after you draw the rectangle on the mat you’ll need to add your sticker images inside the rectangle in Design Space and then print them using the print the cut function with Design Space thinking you’re using a Maker or Explore Air machine to trick the software into doing the print since the Joy doesn’t support the printing. After that, you switch back to the Joy to cut them, trimming the print out per the instructions in the video.

      Is it always way off on a particular side - like always cutting a quarter inch off on the left side of the images as an example? If so, you can adjust how you place the sheet down on the mat to compensate for the distance it is off. So, in my example, you would shift the sheet over a quarter inch to the left to eliminate the space. Not ideal I know, but the whole process is a work around for the Joy and far from perfect. You could also try updating the firmware on the machine (a choice on the dropdown menu in the upper left on the Home screen) to see if that helps - that's a bit of a long shot.

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  Před 2 lety

      You can do it in Design Space if you prefer. There are a couple extra steps because you would need to create a base rectangle and then the inside rectangle to be cut out of the base rectangle and then slice the two of them to get the rectangle outline after deleting the pieces you don't need, at least in the basic (no Access) version. But, you can do it that way too - no problem. A total newbie might be a bit confused by the whole slice thing, so Canva can be an alternative method.

    I have to think there's a way to print two copies per sheet of sticker paper, cut the sticker paper in half vertically, and run one half at a time through the Joy. Like is there a way to design a 4x9 block in Canva or Illustrator (with the border) and then bring that whole thing into Joy to create a cut file? I would think if it's PNG or SVG it should work. I get why CDS has to print the border for print-then-cut, but it's so wasteful of materials.

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  Před rokem

      You got me thinking so I did an experiment to see if I could duplicate the rectangle template (created in Canva in the video) and then attach it right next to the first one to see if it would let me print out 2 on one sheet because sometimes you can trick Cricut Design Space into printing larger than the normal print then cut size (6.75" x 9.5"). But, I couldn't get it to do it. It kept giving me the size error. But, like what I think you're suggesting, you could set up the rectangle and images to cut in a graphics program like Illustrator or even Canva and then print 2 of them on one sheet using a different program, like Silhouette Studio or even Word. You'd need to save that rectangle and images as an image file and upload that to Cricut Design Space to then cut it. It might not be as closely aligned as it might be doing the print from Cricut Design Space but would be worth trying.

      Cricut has improved Print Then Cut since this video was made. Now instead of a rectangle border all the way around everything, there are black corner markers and then when you roll over the mat with your mouse, a border of small red dots shows up all the way around it. This is just showing the boundary of the Print then Cut area on the mat. If the template rectangle shows and prints when you actually print the stickers, then you are good. I hope that makes sense.

      Well, you could try just printing it out, cutting along the outer edge of the printed rectangle and then line that edge up in the upper left corner of the mat and then cutting the stickers out. But that assumes that your machine cuts precisely based on the borders of the mat. It very well may but it could be off a bit. However, as I mention in the video, it’s not a completely exact process to begin with so I’d give it a try, if you really, really don’t want to draw on the mat.

      @@LyzPlays to clarify, is the scale of the sticker images changing when printed, the scale of the rectangle or both? It really sounds like you haven't attached the images inside the rectangle before doing 'Make It'. Attach is what tells the software to leave everything exactly as you've laid it out on the canvas in design space. If you've done Attach and the scale of both the images and the rectangle are off on the print, then my next thought is that your printer settings may be doing something weird to the scale. Every printer is different but it would probably be under the advanced settings. Not sure what it would be called but I'd look through each setting to see if any might somehow change the size of the print. Sometimes computers just default to settings like 'fill page' which can make everything bigger.

      If you want to print just the stickers and not the rectangle that you create for the template, you can "hide" the rectangle layer by turning off the eye that shows next to it on it's layer. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to turn off the "print then cut" rectangle border that the software places around everything because that is what the software thinks the machine will use to cut out the stickers. Since this technique is basically tricking the Joy into cutting stickers that are printed out, you just have to cut that outer rectangle off when you trim along the inside of the template rectangle. I hope that makes sense.

Are you trimming off along the inside of the rectangle that you created for the Joy template or are you trimming off along the inside border of the Maker's print then cut border? If you're using the Maker's black rectangle, that would throw the cuts off. But if not, you may need to eyeball an adjustment/realignment for the placement of your sticker paper on your mat before you cut. Since this isn't a perfect process, that is a distinct possibility. So, if your borders are more off on one side of the stickers than the other, I'd measure to see how far off they are and then draw a new line along the inside of the rectangle on the side closest to the left edge with a ruler and a permanent marker so you will know where to line up the trimmed paper for your particular machine. Or, maybe...is the image you want to print super large? Did you get a warning like "this image is very large and may take a moment" in Design Space when you uploaded it (if that's what you did)? If so, it may be that the image is so large it is clogging up your computer's memory when you try to print it. In that case, you'll need to reduce the size before you upload it. You can do that in Canva or Photoshop or most graphics programs. If none of those help, I'd suggest you contact Cricut for help.
