Air Venturi Nomad 2 Fail

  • I got new Nomad 2 for Christmas, it's got an issue, holy cow, inspected with inspection sticker, the price went up another fifty bucks, and the pressure release/bleed valve leaks like a sieve, yee haaa. Great inspector.
    The US Naval ship shown in the thumbnail is the USS Puget Sound, AD38, a destroyer tender. We carried weapons and supplies, during Operation Desert Storm we ran from the US to the warzone without an escort until we hit the war zone, we ran her wide open, it had never been done before, not supposed to be able to be done, but we did it anyway, lol. It got a bit bumpy along the way, ya know, a ship full of weapons and the Iraq military slinging missiles at us continuously to try to stop us from getting there with more ammo, and holy cow if we would have been hit. I was down in the Engine room standing in front of the throttles running the main engine during all this. I drove a truck for some years, I saw this ship in the shipyards after being decommissioned, I watched it be torn down and turned into razor blades as I watched pieces disappear on my different runs through the area that it was last docked. "All hands BRACE FOR SHOCK! BRACE FOR SHOCK!" ..."Fireroom, Main Control, I'm coming up to full throttle...", go baby go, let's get this beast outta here, go, go, go...

    So I have been using mine for over a month now with dozens of fills. No issues. I love working with Pyramyd Air because they have always stood behind what they sell. I have bought things before that had an issue from so many manufactures and from time to time there is a problem, even from the most trusted manufacturers and distributors. Not saying this is a mis-leading video, but if I made a video about something not working in my arsenal of air gun gear and posted it, my channel would just be me complaining about stuff that 95% of the time gets fully resolved by the manufacturer or distributor. I see shooters watching videos like this and saying screw it - I will go on Amazon or eBay and buy directly from China for gear that is lower in cost but WAAAAY lower in quality and almost no QA/QC. Stupid in my opinion. I like dealing with US based companies to feed my addiction.

      I have no worries that PA will make good on this, not a worry in the world with that. I'm not exactly sure where the pump is actually made, I haven't looked, I do know they are out of Cleveland, Ohio, my home state :-D I am looking for positive feedback as well as negative, I don't really care where a product comes from as long as it works, and the quality is there. This video is up to ask questions from real users so I can make an informed decision. I love the pump, well, I wanna love the pump, but as you saw in the video happening in real time, the window is not attached either. Hopefully, it was a worker being lazy on the job that day, that's what I am looking for more than anything the positive and the negative, I want to know what real users are experiencing with it, at the price we deserve to know, I expect quality for the price, I have read that the quality is better than a lot of others out there, but in return, I have read of people returning a couple of them and being dead in a matter of months or right after the warranty runs out. I'm just being realistic and wanna feel safe in my purchase. Videos like this one make them step up their quality control, which we all deserve, you have some high dollar equipment, do you want to know if the product is worth buying or are you ok with throwing money away if there is a problem with the product? I would hope you would want to ask around, read the forums, etc. to get informed. This is good news if it's just an issue of this pump, I'll have a new one on the way, but I want to feel secure that for $700 I will be using this a few years from now, for the price I should be and I am looking for real user answers to help in my decision. Thanks for the comment.

      Call where you ordered it from. I bought mine from Pyramyd Air, the service dept. was great and it was up and running in about 15 minutes (after I figured out how to get the Delrin seal out). They told me what to do and it has run for three years without needing to be replaced yet. Almost three years, I got it for xmas 3 years ago, close enough. I'd definitely call and see if it needs to be returned if you haven't already, I know I'm a week behind on responding, I get busy and forget to check this channel since I haven't been posting in quite a while. thanks for checking it out.

      I did another video after this one on it, a simple fix, the Delrin seal on the bleed valve just needs replacing. They apparently know they go bad and several were in a bag with other things for repairs. I replaced the seal and it has run like a champ for 15 months now.

      My thought was the same thing, but I don't want to have to deal with the water and oil, it's difficult for me to lug around, and the space for it. It is the exact pump I was going to get, I was completely set on the Yong Heng, but I liked the Spark, then I found the Tuxing, which is the Spark with the converter, etc, for less than both, I could get two for the price of this one. I'm expecting to be attacked on this one, lol, I was out the gate, immediately 4 thumbs down, heaven forbid you tell the truth about something, lol. I would like to have a mobile unit, one that I can run off a car battery without needing the cooling and oil, which is why this one was bought. I know the Yong Heng are good pumps, to many people own then and have used them for years. Thanks for the comment and input, that pump is always in the back of my mind, it has a good track record, I don't comprehend why that makes some people mad, but it does, it's not like much is made in the US these days anyway, if it is the internals often come from elsewhere. I drove a truck for about ten years, you pick up loads that were shipped in from China, and everywhere else, then its put in a "Made in America" box or cover and accepted as such. I never understood why it was a bad thing that someone in another country made my product as long as it was a good one. I'm probably talking too much, but my thoughts on this, lol.

    Sucks it’s the pressure release knob. I put some high pressure Teflon tape on some of my fittings but that one’s going to get tightened/loosened a lot. Pyramyd Air should definitely take it back and they should pay for return shipping. If it’s a product they sell/stand behind they should pay for return shipping. Sounds to me like the valve fitting that the knob screws into has oversized threads. Check the threads on the knob itself for signs of cross threading. Here’s hoping the next one’s a keeper.

    • @slowpokeairgunner4027
      @slowpokeairgunner4027  Před 4 lety

      Yeah, I got some info on how to fix it, not hard, but to me, it's kind of the point that an inspected pump shows up like this. I haven't had the cover off so that window shouldn't be sliding around in there either. Right now I am doing some investigation, this video is of course part of it, I wanna hear what owners have to say. If this were something I had PA to inspect then yes they should have to pay shipping, but they only ship them out, they are supposed to already be inspected. This is the way I understand it, they get the same stuff we do. I think a lot of it is that it amazes me more than anything that it's bad the way it is, there is no possible way that would have been missed, someone was sleeping on the job, that's the way I am wanting to deal with this, but I also think it would be wise to keep asking until I am satisfied which direction I wanna go.

      Good idea to open the pressure valve on the bottom of the air compressorso the built-up air pressure can blow the excess water out that was filtered out of the air.

      I made this video a couple of years ago and since I replaced the seal (see video on easy fix for this leak) it hasn't leaked since. The seals come with it, this one needed a Delrin seal replaced in the release valve. I got mine from Pyramyd Air and they told me on the phone to replace the seals and see if it worked. I hate it that you had to return yours and it's taking so long. It's normally just an easy fix from what I've saw, and this is the seal that leaks. Mine came with several in a bag because they do go bad.

      Oh, and after my problem with the Avenger, I really don't mess with Air Venturi much anymore. I like the Nomad 2, but after the trick they pulled on me with the Avenger I do my best not to buy anything of theirs, I'll never buy another gun from them unless they decide to make good ones that have good seals and poppit. It's the third gun they put out with leaks and they had me send mine back and returned it worse than what It was when I sent it to them, and of course, they had no desire to fix the issue. It's happened to quite a few from what I've seen in the forums. I got burnt out on it and heard about how it was all my fault for not buying a $2000 gun to many times. They have the community programmed to yell, "That's what you get for buying a budget gun", and of course, it's pushed by those they pay well as sponsors and then the herd takes over and it becomes a game of giving more to the already well off to advertise for them. I'm pretty much over the ego issues in the industry and elitism. Sell their products for them for free with CZcams videos and other social media and they'll spit in your face and expect you to keep coming back. Nope, I'm not that guy.

    Man for a hell of a lot less money you could have a Yong Heng compressor. I have had mine for over a year and just because it cheap doesn’t mean it is cheaply made. This thing rocks. I fill a 3 liter, a 68 cubic inch pony/sidekick, and a 6.8 liter, all to 4350 psi with no worries. I am pretty sure you have checked them out and the reason you went with the Nomad was probably portability...yeah the Yong Heng is water cooled so it helps to have an ice maker to keep the temperature under 95 degrees, but still...700 dollars is a nice air gun or to look at it another way...a Yong Heng and a carbon fiber tank. The portability is a nice feature of the Nomad II but it is so very slow and if I’m not mistaken...not to be used to fill air tanks just guns. I hope everything worked out for you and if you did go with the Yong Heng know that there are many knock offs but only 1 Yong Heng. If you did get one like me please feel free to check out my CZcams channel on the recent video I did “poorly” with an iPhone, on the way I have mine set up and keep it cool. It fills all 3 tanks no less than 1X a week and has been a solid investment for me and my friends and family. Again, I hope everything went well for you, take care and be safe. I just read your previous comment so no need to reply. That why this comment is edited. I get the cooling is a pain for you as is the oil, but the truth is the truth...if you set up a Yong Heng, use Royal Purple Synthetic Compressor Oil, ice water, fish tank gauge/2 for 5$ from Amazon in F not C, these are hard to beat and a hell of a lot faster fill time. Portability IS your thing so as I said...hope it worked out. Take care bud.

    • @slowpokeairgunner4027
      @slowpokeairgunner4027  Před 4 lety +2

      I needed the portability, don't have any tanks and I got it for Christmas so I'm not complaining, lol. I was going to get a Yong Heng, then I had decided on one that was the exact same compressor as the Hatsan Spark, there are a lot of knock offs that look like it, but not the same. This is the one I ended up with, the video after this one was about fixing it, it ended up needing a delrin washer, extras come with the pump and not really a hard fix, but I wasn't thrilled that after it was supposed to have been inspected that I had issues with it brand new out of the box. The main reason I didn't send it back was the cost to ship it back, it works fine now. As for speed it take a couple of minutes to fill up my Flashpup and Michelle's At44 so I can deal with that. I like it for sure, but I agree the price is a bit stupid on it, for that price it had better be running well ten years from now, at least in my thinking. I have checked your channel out, been subbed to you for a bit now, lol. I have well over 500 channels, probably closer to 600 tha tI am subbed to and I don't get to see any vids from new channels unless they upload something new, plus the fact that there are a laaaaaaht of people and videos, but those who do hang out with me, such as comments and so forth, I definitely will be giving the shout out to in future vids... stay tuned, you'll surely be in one of my vids soon, unless you're not interested, some people aren't. @slowpokeairgunner4027  Před 4 lety

      Is it doing the same thing as mine, leaking from the pressure release valve? If so see my video on fixing it right after this one. It's an easy fix, there are delrin seals in the pack of extras that it came with. They are the little white plastic ones if you aren't sure. The hardest part was getting it out, I used a tiny all wrench that fit in the gaskets hole and bet it at an angle to grab it to ease it out. Check it out, this may be the same thing that wrong with yours. Tighten down on the air release valve while it's pumping and if the pressure starts going back up just swap out that seal, there should be a few that came with it. It's a common problem, someone was telling me they added a rubber seal with it, not sure what size but it stopped it from doing it again. Mine has ran fine since the new seal was put in. Hope this helps.
