Great demo on this amp. thanks for going through all the amp models and effects. big help.
Excellent review @thetoneking ! I need a small, lightweight and simple amp for jams and practice. Based upon your review (and a few print reviews as well) I've just ordered one of these amps! Looking forward to it!
THANK YOU for posting this. Awesome stuff. Stay safe & healthy.
I have this one.. it's loud enough to jam with drum, trust me..i dont even turn up the volume to the fullest when playing with rock genre, together with drum..best amp for gigging in a small gig around 50-100 crowds without mic'd..
This looks and sounds like a great entry/mid-level gigging/studio amp.
Great video BIG DWiz!!! Thats a pretty nice looking amp, it did good on the DYNO!!! 👍👍
Just got one yesterday! Sounds really cool. Haven't fully explored its capabilities yet, so I'm glad I found this demo.
is it worth it??
It's for home or small venues, but I think it's great. Lots of tones/sounds without external effects boxes. Clean sound.
Thanks for making the demo. As usual, you do a good, careful job of showing the features. The control complement looks the same as on the Champion 40. Glad to see they put a good speaker in the 50XL. How is the clean head room?
Sounds great TTK!!!
Fantastic review it convinced me to buy this amp. It's perfect for what I want.
im looking to buy it is it actually good?
Great job on this !! It sounds pretty nice on your demo vs the other one I seen !!
Thank you Terry :-)
Thanks Louis ! I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Very good demo. For the money, I like the amp a lot. Thanks again. Blues On.... 💙🎸
Thanks buddy! Happy Thankgiving!
How do you think this compares to a reveb deluxe or blues jr to my ears it sounds just as good but you tell me after all it's just a recording also does it feel like a ss or like a tune amps ? Thankx
What a detailed review.
Bless you n your down to earth manner of reviewing👍
What year strat is that? I have an 80s USA strat that looks identical with the faded white
Just bought one...great amp for the money..thanks for the review...
can i use this in my bedroom like katana 50 with the power control ?
This amp sounds tubey or valvie, I like it bro.🤘🏻
Great review T K.👑
*Sounds pretty good. Does it still have the same features right now?*
I came to read the comments but there are no comments. Damn. Guess I’ll have to watch it later at home
I have this amp, and it's decent for the price. But I wouldn't recommend the amp to someone who will be using it as their main amp, get a tube amp or something better instead. The amp has this weird thing going on when you let your notes ring out. It starts to make weird electronic noises instead of letting the sound decay.
what an awesome amp! We wish we had this back in the day!
Another Great Video Tone King--Rock On....
Tone King!! You are the Mr Rogers of guitar videos!!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
oh man, I'm not sure I like that :-( I'd rather be the Mr. T of reviews, or the Godfather of reviews, not Mr. Rogers ... )
Great demo, thank you! :-)
It sounds great and such a great price for that!
I like it sounds great 💯👍
I'm just here to make sure the TTK sign is lit up.
haha. Thanks buddy!
GREAT VIDEO
Thank you. Very informative video. I’m buying 2…. I use a line 6 pod go and I need 2 amps for stereo. Thanks again
This amp or katana 50 for blues and jazz ?
PLEASE...Will you a review on the portable 50W "street cube" AMP ?
(also a portable wawa pedal😀if someone makes one)
I bought a 2021 50XL from a pawn shop for $40. This was just to replace my Marshall CDR15 practice amp. I wouldn't try using it for gigs because of the tiny letters. Unless you plan to set it and leave it, at the Voice and Effect. It's nothing more than a practice amp that i take with me. I'm an OTR Owner Operator, and it's ok for my sleeper. Thanks for showing these people how to use it!!
Some amplifier very similar quality sound as CHAMPION 50XL (In México is out of stock) Thanks!!!
Will channel 1 take pedals well. I'm curious what the difference between the 50 xl and the regular other than the extra 10 watts and looks are.
A Midnight Clelestian speaker is in the 50xl as compared to the 40
Fender takes the cake with the Celestion 👍
Does it have a speaker out?
TTK rules love his vids
LOVE THAT LEMON STRAT
After my Egnater experience the other day, I’m wary of tube amps (except for my dependable Tubemeister) so IF I get another amp it will be solid state. I was thinking Orange Crush!
Nice demo, TTK. 👍🏻
Blkjakk Orange Crush is streets ahead of both this and the Katana.
Go with the Crush
Chinese made tube amps are unreliable. Go buy a Friedman and stop buying crap.
I like the 90z high gain for my punk rock project.
Thanks for the demo, will buy this now instead of the vypyr x2
You did a great job of running through the features and sounds the Champion 50XL has to offer. It sounds similar to the Mustang III with fewer presets.
Thanks Dale!
It has no pre sets!
@@chrisjeneson5091 Perhaps presets was the wrong word. I should have just pointed out it offers fewer amps and stomp boxes than the Mustang III.
Hi Dale, you are correct in that but it is not just that it has fewer stomp boxes, you have far less choice of what you can use with what. Give it a screen like the Mustang 3 V2 and it would be a much better amp.
@@chrisjeneson5091 Those options are offered for amps at a higher price point. This one could be a good option for those who don't know or care about having a multitude of options and don't want to pay for that. A comparison could help determine which amp can sound better to see if this less expensive amp can sound as good.
Watch every vid TK. Love the channel brother!
Yamaha needs to send up a THR10X. It is the best amp purchase I’ve ever made, and I’ve made more than wife knows about. Super convenient, inspiring and unbelievable tone for a little “3rd” amp. YAmaha needs to hook you up. You’d probably sell a ton for them.
I wish Yamaha would build a 1 x 12 *combo* with ALL the features of ALL of the models in the THR range and make all the knobs & marking easy to see. C'mon Yamaha, you can do it, ya hear me?
Love it....50 watts, great speaker, $200 , cons no loop.
Good, are those 50w enough for rehearsals and playing in small places or will it fall short? Which do you recommend to put pedals, fender or boss katana 50? Thank you
Todos nos hacemos la misma pregunta, y en todos lados responden lo mismo:
- clean channel jazz blues solos: fender, single coils
- mas distor hard rock, humbucker: katana.
Not really... I bought this amp a few months ago and was really impressed how good it sounds... But when will start playing In a louder volume, it starts making horrible noises... Maybe the amp has too much bass... I don't know but this was the reason why I sold him.
So I would say, it's a really good sounding amp for low volume and playing at home.
@@Rohdy1slandI'm hearing that a lot from honest people. This is why the 40 and the 50XL aren't selling. It's supposed to be louder and more powerful. If it only sounds good at home, at low volume, what's the point of it? You could just buy the Champion 20, and lose 3 measly decibels, or get the Champion 100, which is a best seller.
So no mids
I do like it don't get me wrong still hooked on peavy vypyr though
where is that background noise coming from?
U don't got use the octave or is it built in to each amp
Wonderful amp Fender should make it vintage old fashion tweed look
Yes!!!
Check those scallops :o yes!
Thank for the information, I'm gonna pass on this one,🤘👍
Which one is better? The champion 40 or the 50xL?
That's my question down sizing everything but need loud too.
Mine sounds bad idk why
Because yours is face to face with you! 😂
But this amp doesn't have a power control feature like a Boss Katana 50w Mk II. That's all it's missing though.
My next amp. No need for anything else.js
Do you think its small gigable?
It def is. I gigged w it and it was deffff loud enough. It honestly sounds even better when it’s cranked up too. I barely played with it over halfway up I believe so it can get real loud
Thank you sir
So it's a "Champion 40" with ten more watts, and in black?
Yes, 10 additional watts of output power, and a much better Speaker. The Speaker is worth the price difference and then some, but if you already own a Champ 40, it's probably not worth the upgrade unless you just want a new amp. For those who are ampless or are shopping for a small and lightweight "grab-n-go" combo for practice or small to medium gigs that is easy to dial in quickly (no labyrinth-like maze of menus), this is a bargain.
a cool thing
'90s Meddle With Octave'
That '60s British clean is definitely supposed to be a Vox.
It's NOT bad! Very versatile and useful SS amp! A few of the higher gain sounds were a bit unconvincing but everything before those were really good! You WANT to watch that EQ section, sounds VERY interactive! That bit of treble you wound up swamped the low and mids! My H&K is like that too!
Rock on! \m/
Thanks DMS!
I am guessing its analogue modelling?
Now that is a good question? I will ask Fender.
Cheers mate!
HAHAHAHAA .. We look alike , Bro .. Check the thumbnail portrait.. Good show .. Need to find a way to correct my axes before I buy anything .. Thanks ..
This or the boss katana 50 for small rock gigs?
Katana has better effects. Fender is better for pedals because the clean is so nice
Adam Arcadipane you think if I ran a sugar drive it would be better? Or still the katana for effects?
Liam Beers Get the Fender if you’re into Pedals and gadgets or already have some. Get the Katana if you’re into having multiple presets and messing with EQ’s through a computer.
Grumpy Cat alright, thanks! I’m thinking the Katana.
I'm not impressed at all with the distortion but it has a real sweet clean channel but not an amp that I would buy
I want to see how the channels operate
Is it 250.00?
You mean 250$ ? I guess it depends in what country and shop you buy it. it's 205 $ in Thomann
I think i could do anything i need with a switcher and a pedal
hissing sound
so.. 50xl, or boss katana?
I've struggled with this same question for weeks now. I finally just ordered the Champ 50xl because I owned a Champion 100 a couple of years ago, and now wish I hadn't sold it. I'm on a tighter budget now, so this looks like a smaller and lighter version of the 100. They are very versatile, and if you run it clean then get your effects from stompboxes, it has plenty of headroom. If I don't like it, I'll call SW and exchange for the Katana. The Champ is definitely better at Cleans and classic Fender voices (it's British settings are more Vox than Marshall), and I'm told that the Katana is better at emulating the classic Marshall sounds. Maybe even better than the Marshall Code is.
I bought this amp immediately when fender announced it, but in my opinion is crap. The biggest issue to notice is the total absence of mid control knob, which for fender sounds is absolutely essential. Is loud, messy, but I didn't get from it any sound which I could consider good for my playing style (mostly clean with a bit of drive, bit "knopflerist") . For home use I used to play on a shitty mustang 2 V2 which I hated since the first day but this I hated since the first 20 seconds. Will have to get a "serious" amp also for home use cause these Chinese made toys are all getting on my nerves (and anyway I liked more the katana compared to this). And on CZcams they all sound good lol
If the mid control knob was so essential then why did you buy the damn thing in the first place, did you check if your car has a steering wheel before you bought it?
LOL fender keeps making Christmas gift amps. And everybody keeps taking them serious.
Hello Fender!!! Please make an affordable version of the Fender Machete instead of this cheap solid state garbage. The Machete was a great tube amp and if you can make an affordable ($500-$600 Range) version of it with an attenuator built in it will sell like hot cakes and outsell Marshall and Blackstar. Why are you in competition with yourself, you already have the Mustang line of amps. WE WANT TUBES!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love FENDER but stop making SS amps. Modernize some of your tube amps. Break new ground. Cant keep making reissue s with a new color. Go after new markets. I still want you to make your great classic amps. I know fender people are stubborn die hards lol who are so they say purists but hell fender is one of the biggest bad ass companies and they have the resources to make kick ass amps. Bring back the Machete, do up the supersonic right. Dont cut corners. Make a high gain amp that keeps Friedman awake at night. Fender knows their customer base but i think fender as much as i love em should....
Tube amps wil be dead one day, just like tube TV'S and radios are dead. You can't really modernize tube amps, that is why tube amps will disappear eventually. They are way too expensive to manufacture and musicians don't want to lug around equipment that weighs a ton anymore.
Sorry Louis, I have to make some negative points here. I have bought this amp and have had it for a week or so. Yes, you can get some nice sounds from it. Here come some things buyers should be aware of. The controls for amp models and effects have their markings in tiny letters, so very difficult to read in poor or stage light. For all it´s models and effects, you are basically limited to two sounds because without pre sets, changing the settings will take an age, way too slow in a song context. Without the foot switch, changing from clean to a dirty lead tone is by a tiny button which in the heat of playing will be tricky to accomplish. The footswitch is not supplied which in my opinion is criminal as without one the usability of the amp is badly compromised. The two button footswitch from the Mustang 3 V2 is not compatible. The various amp models and effects are by dials with no click positions so are very vague and the small coloured lights are pathetic because when they are light they make the tiny lettering on the dials more or less un-readable. The manual supplied with the amp looks big but in reality it is one page per language and poorly laid out at that. So, my conclusion is this is a loud PRACTICE AMP only, definitely not for stage use because of it´s severe limitations in practicality. I have the Boss Katana 50 as well and I also rate that as poor. The sounds from the 50XL are better I think but with it´s pre sets I would say the Katana has the edge. My recommendation is do not buy either one!
So for $200... $300... $400 what would you buy? The Katanas had staggering sales numbers and praise from long time players. They must of done something right.
Well Road Dog, everyone is due his or hers own opinion. I wonder if you have tried this amp for yourself yet? Do you play small gigs with poor lighting as I do? Perhaps you are a superstar that has several roadies to set your gear up for you? My aim with my comment was to alert potential buyers to the pitfalls, obvious to me as an owner, of this amps shortcomings in the many situations that a small gig player such as myself face. I could have said more but at this sort of price you cannot expect a Messa Boogie, but I think you can hope for practicality. A 50 watt amp is not for bedrooms, this thing has the power to be used in bars and small clubs but anyone trying to do so will instantly come to the same conclusions I did. I cannot give you an up to the minute alternative amp but, the Fender Mustang 3 Version 2 is a far better choice for the purposes I described. The Peavey Express or Bandit are another good solid state choice, I have both of these and they have proved themselves time and again. Finally I am not saying all this to promote some other product, I am solely trying to save some brothers some hard earned money.
@@chrisjeneson5091 Chris, is 50 watts of solid state powe really loud enough for bar gigs? I struggle to see the point in 50 watt solid state amps such as these, katana, vox mv series etc. Unnecessarily loud for bedroom, not quite loud enough for gigs.
@@ryanteacher8134 I guess it all comes down to what you're playing, who you're playing with, and the capabilities of the sound system the bar happens to have (if they have one), but 50 watts solid state is probably way, way, WAY more than anyone would need for a bar gig.
The Katana 50 or Blackstar ID60 for example will have your bandmates saying turn it down before the crowd says turn it up. Manufacturers finally got their act together and made solidstate amps with plenty of headroom that could get loud in a good way.
I bought one of these and it was total.garbage. Weird effects unusable live, not enough volume, and horrible distortions.
Sounds like you dont know how to dial in tones 😂
I'm hearing much bad news about both this and the Champion 40. The Cheap Brigade has swamped CZcams with good reviews about the 20.
I know now why Fender sent one out....just listen. Are these pre Vox VT components gone bad. My grandma's fart has more juice than that modern metal. Please...just stop...one could tell the Tone King was barely enthusiastic about this Taj Mahal of a jewel the postman delivered...hey...give it a few years and Johan Segeborn will compare it to a Gorilla. LMAO
I agree it's getting ridiculous. I don't even have the words.
That amp sounds bad.lol I found a couple words.
Someone would have to PAY ME to consider..lmao
Segeborn did a heavily edited review, where he has a 'mic to nowhere' stuck in front of its grill, that no doubt goes to a better amp, and mystery cables all over the floor. Fender must be shelling out these amps by the truckload! 😂
I am not impressed with the sounds.
Made in China?
I will ask Fender to manufacture it in the U.S.A. so you can pay $600 more for it. Pretty much everything electronic is manufactured in China these days, so why the question regarding place of manufacture.
I considered buying one of these but not after watching this demo. This thing sounds DEAD. No life to it at all at any setting. Not sure it it is the amp or the mic positioning. Very painful to watch or listen to. I am a Fender fan but think they missed the ball here. Much better sounds from the Katana 50. Thanks for saving me a couple hundred bucks!
it actually sounds great in person, I've heard the 40
@@thearoom... I have this amp and every single setting he plays sounds NOTHING like this.... ZERO... I was wondering if the real amp was behind it... 😂 SMH... he's a metal guy and I wonder if that's has something to do with it, with his playing... If your a SRV / Hendrix type of sound or even like the sound of Deluxe Reverb or Twin Reverb sounds with some pedals then you will like this amp... It's NOT NOT NOT a metal amp... Don't even bother... It's very loud though with great lows.. I love it...
What a horrible demonstration and very boring
