  • In this video I am carrying out an in depth review of my Volkswagen VW Crafter LWB Long Wheel Base before we start our van conversion into a ultimate overlanding adventure full time van and begin our van life journey. This review is also relevant to MAN TGE as it is the same vehicle. This is a 2022 crafter 4Motion 4x4 AWD model trendline without diff locks. I review the exterior styling and looks, interior design and comfort, the load area where the floor height and head room is different to a normal FWD version, on the road testing, off road and 4Motion testing and look in detail and the good and bad points from an owners perspective.

    It's a work vehicle, those bins under the windscreen would normally be used for storing business paperwork and maps e.t.c. The quality of the plastic looks fine for a hard working vehicle. I think you are expecting too much if you think it should be up to car quality, that isn't what it's made for, companies that buy these don't want to pay extra for pointless luxury. It looks good to me, it's far better than the vans i used to drive at work.

      That’s a fair point and I agree it is a work van but compared to a couple of transit customs which I had for work the interiors were better and the earlier one had covered storage above the dash. Very useful. The crafter does have much better comfort though. The driver and passenger seats are spot on.

    I have a MAN TGE 180 4x4 its exactly the same as a VW, I have the heater leather steering and its nice, MAN service is different, you have access to MAN truck breakdown and service centres that are 24/7, the warranty on the MAN is better 2 years unlimited Milege as well, but I do like the VW badge but MAN are a bit cheaper

      This is what I thought until I spoke to the two dealers, they could have just been talking bollocks. The MAN would have been the dream but with so few on the market and budget in mind we managed to pick this one up. Thanks for watching.

    What do you expect from a WORKS van, VW don’t build these vans for people to convert into campers they build them as a work horse.
    Being in the UK not sure why you need a 4x4 van, personally i would rather have the extra 100mm/4 inches of head room

      @abucklife  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I would be interested to see how many are sold for conversion v business use. We want to take it over landing to Iceland, Corsica and Northern Africa. We want to be able to get to places other vans can’t. Thanks for watching.

    Hola from Australia! We have a 22 LWB 4Motion (with the diff lock) Subscribed. One other thing you maybe forgot to mention? There's basically nowhere to store your phones! Totally agree with your assessment on the interior too, we kinda liked it at first but yeah, got boring and non user friendly pretty quick. Best of luck with your build.

    • @abucklife
      @abucklife  Před 10 měsíci

      Hello! Very jealous of the diff lock. We defiantly wanted one but there are so few on the market at the moment and you would have needed to pay an extra £30000 to get one new with one or super high miles they just didn’t exist and we just wanted to crack on. I figured if we get stuck I’m just gonna have to dig our way out. 🤞😂
      Great point and thanks for your support.

    Great video, Thanks for sharing, just a question re the TGE vs CRAFTER? Where did you read about this? I have been toying between the two vans, this is a big reason to go VW for me. Also if you don't mind, Where is the lane you guys were driving? thanks again for the great video!

      Thanks pal. I can’t quite remember which review I read it in but the local sales rep for Sheffield also confirmed this. Good bloke called Peter get in touch. Have you found a van? They are hard to come by and I’m not sure you can order them at the moment.

    When standing in the back with the 4motion what is the ceiling height?
    Guessing 190cm?
    Just enough room for the ceiling and stand for a 6 foot person

    • @abucklife
      @abucklife  Před 11 měsíci

      yes must be 190 floor to roof not including the strengthening braces. I am 182cm and fit exactly under the strengthening braces. 👍

    This is a work van not a car. It is bought by tight fister bean counters who couldn't care less about your cup holders as they have an office coffee machine! If you need a leather steering wheel buy one with that option already fitted. These vans are designed to do 100k miles per year that is why they are built with hard plastics for durability, not vanity. You are paying for the badge, and residual values. Thus is why they are being built on by major converters now.

    • @abucklife
      @abucklife  Před 3 měsíci

      Yer I get what your saying about durability. But when I compare it to my previous work van I felt like the quality was better in my transit.
