its really a simple puzzle. You only need to remove either the two on the left top square or two on the right bottom square to complete the two unfinished square that only need one each to complete.

I got it but it took me awhile, as we are looking at the squares, take a stick from outside of top right, place it just to the left to complete that square, now U have a square over a square, that is 2.. Take another from the top right, place it on the bottom left to complete that square, that is another set of 2 squares 1 over the other one.. I got another way...to five square....you pic right side vertical stick and put it same of upper right,and another stick is right side and put it down side near bottom.
Her first move was half correct if she had simply taken one more away from that same last block and placed it on the bottom box to the far right closing it off into a complete block she would then have 5 closed boxes in total.
So easy - move them and there's one left over pointing to the right. Very good puzzle, if you don't see it you'll never get it - no overthinking is the clue!
