This was so interesting. I’m an old git who uses a guitar , amp and lead so definitely stuck in the past as far as guitar is concerned. I watch so much stuff about the modern world of guitar but as I only own a iPad & I’m poor as a church mouse I will just enjoy seeing all this great stuff on CZcams. I really do feel it’s a great time to be into making music .

It’s almost always this way, not only with BadCat. Any OD compressing the signal, more compression = less attack and punch.
Holy shit, that track is badass! I also love how simple the setup is. Other channels make selecting the gear and placing mics look like black magic, but it doesn't have to be that way.
It feels like it when it all comes together though.
When you have recorded guitar 10.000 times it looks simple...

Maybe a good workflow would be to give dowpdown menu options in your website for:
- overdrive or boost pedals that you own
- amplifiers
- cabinets
- microphones
For a given set of selections above, you put in your expertise to make it sound good, balanced, tight and professional, since you have an amazing ear.

I second the idea for an amp tour!
I only use re-amping when the recorded amp is not working in the mix. The problem I have with re-amping is the player digs in the sound of the amp and it affects its playing style. When re-amping a different sound I miss that connection. So my recorded D.I. is only there for fail safe, mostly I don’t use it while mixing.

The advantage is that when i play directly on a amp,mainly using a ton o gain because the feel.
But this way i can set the amount which is pleasent in mix.Of course the editing,and finaly the

I think this is a great idea to offer as a service. I think you can add a little bit of quality to some home recording rigs. One thought ismaking different tiered options so people can maybe get different mixes of stuff and pick the ones they really like. I know that introduces more work so the more options that someone wants to pick from the higher the cost. But lowest tier at least 2 mixes of the guitar. 🤷🏽♂️

If you could set up some of the beauties with a switch into one or two great caps you could accept DI's and return the individual mics. You can mixmatch and EQ those in any DAW anyway. But you really need the amp-room-mic chain once.
Always love the how-to videos from Ola. Reamping from a metalhead is a different video than reamping Mickey Mouse.

Scar Symmetry was on of famous group you did reamping.
i did it this way:
On the Scarlett Solo.
First you need to enable "Direct Monitor" & use 1 of the 2 channels output into the return loop of the amp head. Typically i alway use left channel if unsure. In terms of input. The Send output (effects loop) from the amp goes to the input of the scarlett. Configure your software (Guitar Rig, Bias FX2, Logic etc) to use the Scarlett (or other) i/o & it works well.0 ish latency. switch off amps/cabs in the software coz hey you're already using an amp and cab !!
so you get chorus, flanger, distortion etc thru the DAW, that goes thru the effects loop of the valve/tube amp :-)

note that my method above - using the effects loop - means that effectively you are bypassing the pre-amp of your amp. You've already "pre-amped it" when you recorded the track.
Ola's method puts the output back through the guitar input meaning that you are using your amps pre-amp and power amp circuits.
So someone needs to tell me why you would want to do that because that input can drive the pre-amp to the point of distortion. Also note that my method doesn't have any noise/hum.
They only recorded the clean DI signal straight from the guitar, not a pre-amped one. That's why they plug to the guitar input. Reamping is not just recording a signal through a cabinet, it's all about getting the full signal chain in analog starting with a "digital" guitar

How can i use my TONEX plugin (no cab sim) out of my interface lets say to my FX return of my Tube amp? can i go directly from audio interface or do i need a Reamp Box?
Hey Ola I was wondering... was the apogee output hiz like a real guitar entering an Amp? Is it the cause of the noise, the impedence mismatch? Which is fixed by the Reamp box by the way... Keep chugging!

Love the idea of reamping!!! Stay authentic. We have to keep real amps and cabs at the forefront. Digital stuff is convenient but will always be a copy and approximation of the real thing.

A friend of mine used to start a reamping-business in germany. He claimed that he had a huge collection of the best amps and traditional cabs and mics. When in fact (he told me) he just reamped thru Helix Native or Amplitube (back in the days). Using multiple outputs he was able to quickly offer 2-4 tracks of different cab-mics and positions. He made good money out of it. Especially during covid. And the clients were more than happy with the tones he got. 😀
Well, that's a super dick-ish move, because it's just a lie. Even if the tones were satisfactory, that still sucks and is illegal.

Does anyone have suggestions on a really good transparent DI box? I've experienced that most DI boxes change your tone anywhere from slight to noticeable compared to going straight to an interface or amp. Very cool service Ola!

Mega vid Idea: take each amp you own, run it through the same cab and mic chain and record the tonal differences? I know that is A LOT, however, that would be kick ass!
