    Honestly I was disappointed you didn't put a stinger back on Jawbreaker. That muffler sounds real good I'm surprised!! Which muffler is it and what filter is that you are using also?
    Keep up the great work brother!!

      VeeDub P8 I wanted to put the dual stingers back on however it would require a ton of modifications to make it works since I couldn’t use the same header as before. I had to step up to a larger merged header for this engine. I do miss the stingers but this is the Thrush welded 2 chamber muffler from the local auto parts store.... was like $35 or something. It has a great rumble to it that’s for sure.
      The oil filter I’m using is the Mann brand with the bypass inside. Seems to be holding up well.

    Hi Gary, Im working on restoring a bug and a guy doing the engine is telling me that dual carbs will cause the engine to overheat all the time. I live in Maryland, so temps are usually low 90s in the summer. I dont see why having 2 carbs would cause overheating, unless they are running super rich. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  Pƙed 3 lety +4

      If the engine guy is telling you that, I question what other nonsense he’s told people. Maybe it’s that he doesn’t want to deal with dual carbs. Dual carbs will in fact not make your engine run hotter, if it did it would be running way too lean or way too rich. If the jetting is in the ballpark, it will run better and more efficient than a single stock carb.

  • @mcdanielsmotorwerks423

    Interesting that you put the oil temp sender in the filter outlet and not the inlet. I would think you would want the to know the temperature of the oil coming out of the engine. My thinking is once the oil has passed through the filter it would be getting cooled off due to the placement of your oil filter in the wheel well. But I'm sure you have your reasons for this. I'm still pondering the noise you are getting from the pulley this is not something I've personally encountered.

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  Pƙed 4 lety +1

      Volkswagen Fetish I used my laser temp gun and there isn’t much of a difference between the inlet and outlet temps, thus choosing the one closest to the inner fender. It would be easy enough to swap around.

      @@VWJawbreaker I think you would need better data than the external temperature of the unit as read from an IR temperature gun. Please don't get me wrong the IR is a fine tool for a quick how's my case temp I use mine all the time for this. But I would not trust it to tell me the temperature of a flowing liquid inside of the system.
      Food for thought If you had a sender on the oil output closest to the engine case and another one at the output of the filter in the wheel well where is is shielded form the heat of the engine and getting air circulating around the filter while moving at cruising speed. Would it not be a safe to theorize that you would see a significant temperature difference in the oil in this situation?
      I have no proof to back any of this up and I might be totally incorrect it's just how I see things in relation to what you have done and the information you are hoping to receive from this project.

      @@VWJawbreaker I can respect that, I never really take it so much to say easy on a freshly built engine. Once the cam is broken in and the break in oil is removed I drive it as I would any other day. If you get 50-70K miles out of a big engine your doing well they run hot and larger pistons and cams with wild lobes wear quicker than stock. I don't feel like babying it is going to add that much more life to the engine. IMHO its all about the care and feeding you give it along the way that ensures a long happy life.

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  Pƙed 4 lety +1

      Volkswagen Fetish I wondered about the temp difference as well, I wanted to measure oil temp as best as I could without the heat from the exhaust, etc affecting the reading. Yes it might be a few degrees cooler in the wheel well and I’ve been using the ir temp gun as a reference, not exact set in stone data. If I put the sender at the oil pump output it would hit the header so that’s why I chose the wheel well. Limited clearance and a lot of reading on the samba led me to put the sender where it is.
      You’re always my voice of reason, your thoughts and experience is like my gospel.
