  • Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder characterized by decreased haemoglobin production. A person with this disorder will not be able to produce the required quantities of haemoglobin.
In India, every year about 10,000 children are being born with thalassemia, which approximately accounts for 10% of the total world incidence of thalassemia-affected children.
DKMS-BMST runs the Thalassemia program, with the support of dedicated NGOs and hospitals, who are selected annually based on their proven track record in the field of Thalassemia.
