- Kyung Wha Chung plays Bruch violin concerto with Bournemouth Symphony, conducted by Paavo Berglund.
Recorded in 1974, as a part of the series presenting prominent figures of classical music; Rubinstein for piano, Rostropovich for cello, Mehta for conducting, and Ms Chung for violin.

그러니까... 1974년에 클래식 음악계에선, 피아노 하면 루빈스타인, 첼로 하면 로스트로포비치, 지휘자 하면 주빈 메타를 꼽았는데, 바이올린 하니까 제일 먼저 정경화 선생님을 꼽았다, 이거 아닙니까. 하 놀랍네요! 당시 유럽 클래식 청중들은 그랬을지도 모르죠. "아니 루빈스타인, 로스트로포비치와 어깨를 나란히 하는 저 이름도 이상하고 낯선 동양 처자는 대체 누구야?" 하지만 브루흐의 바이올린 협주곡을 들으면, 누구나 고개를 끄덕이게 됐을 거란 생각이 듭니다. 정경화의 브루흐는 여러 녹음 버전이 있지만 하나 같이 훌륭하고, 언제 들어도 감동이 줄지 않는 역사적 명연들입니다. 이 좋은 연주에, 덤으로 이십대 정경화의 아름답고 격정적인 연주 모습을 볼 수 있는 귀한 기회를 주신 데 감사드립니다.

그냥 흐르는듯 활가는듯 , .
차이콥스키,멘델스존,부르흐 이 세곡의 명 바이올린 협주곡을 이토록 완벽에 가깝게 연주하는 연주자는 현존 정경화 선생님이 유일하다. 한국사람들 너무 자국 연주자 수준을 낮게 보는듯 한데요..외국에서도 정경화 선생님은 이미 살아있는 전설입니다.

경화님의 이연주를 들을때 마다 무당이 날이바짝선 작두위에 탄 날카로움이 느껴집니다. 펄먼의따듯함과는 대칭적인 느낌 .누구도 범접할수없는 이분의 음색과 테크닉에 경의를 표하고 같은시대를 산것에 감사드립니다.
I first heard this more than 40 years ago and was so moved by it that I bought a recording for my mum. Beautiful Kyung-Wha Chung playing this exquisite concerto gave my mum and I endless hours of deep joy. I hadn’t heard it for some time and playing this through CZcams just now was almost painful as it took me back to something that my mum( now long gone) and I had shared. ❤️
국뽕이 아니라 멘델스존이나 브루흐 협주곡 같은경우엔.... 정경화 선생님 전성기때 즉 연국으로 건너가셔서 핀커스 주커만 공동우승하고 한창 활동 많이 하셨던 1970s 녹음들보면... 힐러리 한이니 율리아피셔니... 안네소피무터니.... 이런 분들보다 확실히 한수위라는게 느껴집니다... 데카에서 괜히 레전더리 딱지 붙여서 앨범이 다시 나오진 않았겠죠 ㅠㅠ

정경화선생님의 이 Bruch 연주는 정말 명연주라고 생각합니다.
선생님의 바이올린 연주로 부터 검객의 칼의 날카로움, 무서운 살기 같은 것을 다 느끼게 되니 말입니다.
동시에 뭐라 말할 수 없는 깊이 눌러앉은 슬픔 같은 것이 진하게 다가오기도 해서 매우 복잡한 심정입니다.
참 음악을 진지하게, 진실하게 하시는 대가라 아니할 수 없습니다.
오랜만에 정경화선생님의 이 Bruch 연주를 다시 들었는데 여전히 목이 메어오는 것은 어쩔 수가 없네요.

SHE IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE. Her performances are always perfect to me. There is always so much passion in her style that is really missing in MOST of today's players. Yes... some of them are very good but very few can bring the passion of Kyung Wha Chung. Only a very few can not even come close to her style. She makes everything sounds excellent.
Just one name of someone who I have seen play this live in London 2 years ago, quite brilliant performance, the audience went mad, so many encores and in my opinion even better performance than this......who could this person be ?...........Sarah Chang !! Both wonderful violinist's though along with so many wonderful ones around now and in the past. So many very good Asian lady violinist's coming through now, bravo to all of them !!
I like Sarah Chang also and she is very good but I am 48 and have been playing for over 30 years. For me Kyung Wha is still my favorite, I been following her even before Sarah Chang was well known. I will try to get the Sarah Chang Recording and compare... Thanks.

Are you referring to Kyung Wha Chung or Sarah Chang ?
Amongst many others, Sayaka Shoji, ( who has the highest amount of views on CZcams for a Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto performance, over 4 million at present ) is also making a big name for herself at present but so many fine Violinists to chose from at present. We are so lucky to be able to see and hear all these wonderful musicians anytime, free on CZcams.

Might be my favorite performance of this masterpiece. KWC is perfectly suited for it and delivers in spades.

진짜, 브루흐는 그녀를 위한 곡이라는 생각이 드네요. 이건 들어도 들어도 명작입니다. 어머니께 물려받은 LP와 어릴적 돈을 모으고 모아 샀던 CD를 소장하고 있지만, 구할 수 있다면 DVD도 소장하고 싶네요.
그 LP가 최고입니다. 저도 어릴 적에 갖고 있었는데 제가 들어본 것 중에는 정경화의 음반이 제일이더군요

She always makes me feel to be proud of being Korean. I guess this is the one when she was most young which I have ever seen. Her performance has it all. . subtle, deep, serene, vibrant.. She was so beautiful too. I am woman. :)

I have heard this played more times than I can remember, and this was the best performance I've heard.
This is a wonderful performance and great to see Kyung Wha Chung in action from this era. The classic 1972 version of this by Chung and Conductor Rudolf Kempe is still available and that version of the Adagio featured on 'Your Hundred Best Tunes' compilations as well. It always moves me that bit at around 15:00 where the whole orchestra comes in loudly. It's theme has been called 'a melodic glory of the 19th century'. Few would argue with that.

There are many great players of Bruch, but only one artist has made it divinely inspired. It is Kyung Wha Chung. I listen to all these perfect renditions of this piece, but no one has made my heart ache the way she does.
Her performance always make me have goosebumps, in a good way. Her music vibrates deep into my soul! You are right, she is the only musician that has the ability to make me have such divine and profound experience.

I think that is a different performance...? The one I have is from 1972 and was done with a different orchestra. Maybe yours is different. They are of similar standard.

She is about my age , one day long time ago I had chance to listen this concerto playing by her , it touched my heart deeply , since then got into classic Violin music and never forgot about her !!! I sometimes watch David Garrett , but thinking she is playing same time !!!!!

난 그 시절 정경화가 무슨 일을 하는 사람인지
모르고 그냥 엄청 위대한 사람인줄만 알았다.^^
근데 이분 보면 6.25 사변때 피난가면서 두살 꼬맹이가 전혀 울지않고 의연했었다고 하던데 그게 더 기억에 남는다.

Track 9 on the 'Your Hundred best Tunes Volume 8' is the exquisite second movement of this piece. The violinist is Kyung Wha Chung and it's beautiful. Great to see a filmed version from the same era.

Very very very few violinists can make this kind of very powerful but soft sound.
The violin also helped - she is playing the Harrison Strad, a 1693 long pattern Strad that is one of the best violins that Strad made. Exactly as you describe, which combine with her incredible playing makes for a match made in heaven! Every note just has this purity, yet with fire and passion to it that it is just utterly amazing.

A transcendent performance of this concerto by Ms. Chung. She's one of my all time favorite violinists.
However, the orchestra seems to be comparatively lackluster.
Bryan Ho Yes, the orchestra is certainly mediocre and uninspired here, though Berglund was an important conductor in his day. The Bournmouth Symphony is supposed to be one of the best regional British orchestras and it has definitely improved since the time this recording was made.
