outside manila such as cavite, bulacan, pampanga, laguna are relatively cheap and already developed with things such as 5G, fibr optics, multilane roads, expressways and whatnot
For typhoons, just choose non flood prone areas and youll be ok as housing here is built with concrete

I agree with everything you said. I’m a Filipino myself and went there to visit and to be honest, traffic is so bad, internet sucks, hot and humid weather, don’t trust where the meat and vegetables are from, very stinky in the province because everybody have pigs and shits smells are all over the place, the rich people can have roasters about 2 to 300 croaking EVERY SINGLE FREAKING MORNING STARTING AT MIDNIGHT. I had to have another vacation after coming back in the States

On the topic of food, I spent three months in the Philippines last year and one thing I had such a hard time getting used to was familiar foods tasting different. Like they had the same food but it would taste different. Good but different! Pizza Hut obviously had pizza but it tasted different. Wendy’s had frosty and nuggets but again you can taste the difference. Near the end of my trip I was really craving some comfort food and saw Denny’s. I got so excited because you can’t get more American than that. I got my hopes up so high and was disappointed at even the hash brown and eggs tasting different. How could you mess up breakfast? But again, Philippines still have a bunch of good food! And American chain food in the Philippines is not bad, just different, so beware.

Which part of the Philippines were you in?
The food tastes different, but different how? Most importantly, do they taste good to begin with?
Food is an aching topic as I am looking to retire there one day, but I do not have a liking towards Filipino food. I don't take pork either compared to how much it is a staple for the local people.

exactly,,,,the only way i got some comfort food in cebu was eating at a few restaurants owned by foreigner. They could get the ingredients needed to taste good, but it had to be imported and the price was same in USA. But its okay, i have the money. They also have many products from USA in Landers or or. S&R big box stores. But the meat in the PI is horrible, but Rustans has imported beef,,,The only fast food that tastes like USA is McDonalds, but i dont eat there very often.

Much of what you say is true, and should be expected for a third world country. Manila is a nightmare to travel around. Personally I have never experienced power or WiFi problems. Regarding typhoons, pick a city facing a strait or bay, and live 1-2 kms inland where the power of hurricanes is spent once it hits land. You can still get a lot of rain of course.

PH is not the ideal country for foreigners to settle & retire foreigners in PH can't even own small portions of lands & have very limited rights they can own condos however condos unlike lands decrease in value over time foreigners can obtain PH citizenship if born & raised in PH like the prominent Spanish Ayala family which is not the case of expat newcomers PH is heaven on earth for rich Filipinos only they live in high walled mansions with armed guards & bodyguards & personal driver when going out the pathetic PH public transp. system miseries & high crime rate are not their problems

@josepanicucci, I like these kinds of videos that warn prospective retirees in the Philippines and other countries. Jose, thank you for so much time you constantly give to the Philippines. Because of that, the country's tourists continue to come and after seeing for themselves, many of them still prefer Thailand and Malaysia but the Philippines is coming along. Generally and like all of us, they have different taste and criteria such as infrastructure, language spoken, the locals' attitude toward foreigners, the number of places they can visit, food, and many other factors and combined with their ability to adapt, saved budget, open-mindedness or not, the Philippines still gets a good number of foreign visitors and retirees among all countries of the world.

About buying a condominium. In Cebu City and around anyway - u have an adventurous choice of affordable units. And a low price thereafter. Just allow sufficient time for a good bargain. Until then u experience a desired idyll. BUT - if u want to sell ur condo - then a rather an undesired challenge. In the worst case impossible obtain any sale. Yes, a buyer's market in the double sense of meaning. And if u ever try to rent out ur unit, very difficult or impossible to find a tenant. And once lucky enough to secure any tenant at all - then u may experience the tenant ask for a discount after a while of occupation. Then as a landlord u accept a lower rental income, cz that better than NO rental income.
And no doubt in MY mind - for very most of those staying in a condo - more favourable to rent rather than to buy.

A lot of Filipinos that immigrated to other countries to earn more are planning to retire or have retired in the Philippines. Most bought property and built homes here so when they retire they just move in. Quality of Retirement life in the Philippines if you are a Filipino that put a lot into your retirement fund is far better than in a foreign country. Because their money goes a longer way back here. Also, returning Filipinos know what to expect from the country so they can adjust when they relocate back home. Many still have their family and relatives here. In my opinion, if you are a NOT MONEYED Foreigner but are used to a more convenient practical life, and are NOT married to a WELL OFF or more AFFLUENT Filipino/Filipina, the Philippines is not a good place to retire.

i think the high population in phillipines is the reason of the restriction for foreigner to own property,,,,of course, in this situation, the local should be given preferences, but there are many south east countries, especially malaysia which has a low population of only about 30 million and could be a ideal choice for foreigner to retire..malaysia also has first world facilities such as excellent infrastructure, efficient train services in the cities, multicultural tourism spot, and good food...

HOW WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT A RETIREE WANTS???????????????????????????????????? Something tells me you are not retired. If you were you would talk about things that are relevant to a retire. EG> Health care, pension services, benefits for pensioners, Care givers, etc, etc
Or name it in a way relevant to your age. EG> "How to be an arrogant fool and pretend I know what older people want"
