The world needs a Rick Wakeman and Bill Bailey concert tour. Both are great as individuals but just imagine the two together for an hour riffing off each other.
I did ask Rick about them doing a gig together. He Said it was discussed at the time.
Aaaaahhh you are so right bro. The muso’s musos, ready to give us some time of unbridled, unabashed aural pleasure. They don’t make them like that anymore, more’s the pity....
Defo😂
The Lamar era of Buzzcocks is my favourite. There is so much more to this show then than there is with the latest version. 10x the content of any version since.
This clip is a beautiful example of professional comedy combined with professional musicianship; you've got Bill and Rick improvising a song based solely around a joke Mark made, and at 8:34 you've got a perfect summary of that staple dynamic between Mark and Bill that shows up in the future episodes of Buzzcocks.
Rick Wakeman - what a guy.
I somehow doubt the current Buzzcocks personnel would be able to conjure up these kinds of musical references.
Bill always reminds me of someone living in the woods in 1400AD. Friends with fairies and knows the local witches. Whenever I see him I feel he's an ageless creature whose lived through Britain's mythical legends.
BananaMilkshake noel fielding as well
Fielding would be the witch.
well he is part troll
This whole comment section🤣
I think he is Tom Bombadil with musical skills!
Now look at Bill killing it on Strictly the man has endless talent
Every time I feel sad I come back to watch this 😂🙈
8:34
"Mark... Would it help if we played it again?"
"Not for me it wouldn't"
Bill strikes back up again 😆
"NO"
😂 🤣
Never heard sunshine and Rudolph mash up before. Absolutely brilliant.
Wakeman is somebody I’d love to know, what a funny guy.
I come back here every sad and then to listen to the Save a Prayer cover. Gold.
On the last song, you can see Phil Jupitus knows something is going to happen and he's loving it.
The greatest Buzzcocks episode ever. Legendary.
I genuinely didn't realise that Bill Bailey had roles on the show prior to being a team captain! They were obviously grooming him for command haha!
HerHollyness there's a clip of Bill and Phil doing the intros together, minds will be blown.
Hehe grooming
It was more of a captive breeding program but you're not far wrong OP 😂
Easily the greatest bit in all of Buzzcocks.
I miss this show soo much and Mark Lamarr please bring this back!!!
I really enjoy that version of save a prayer. Rick Wakeman gives it a completely different feel. Also this is the best intros round I've ever seen...apart from when The Wurzels were on and Bad Manners.
It's hard to believe how old this is and yet it's as funny as it was when I first saw it!!!
Thank you for posting this!!!
Wonder wot year this is from. Sean Hughes looks so young. Wot has happened to him lately? I used to love his tv show.
@@blohmymind ...Sean Hughes sadley passed away in October 2017.
I LOOOVE how they get feeling after the Adams Family theme :D
It is great how you can see Mark wondering where the two were taking it at around the 6:30 mark and again at the 7:30 mark.
This is the BEST intros round EVER!
If Gandalf and Saruman just sat back and kept smoking weed...
One of the greatest episodes of NMTB ever😎
Awesome two of the funniest musician/comedians playing together...their antics are the best laugh I've had in years.
Where can I buy Bender In A Ski Lift/Shave Your Back Arseface?!
Also, I love how worked up Mark always gets when the audience starts clapping along
That famous Abba song, "Armageddon tell me what's wrong".
😂 So funny, the guitar tone, the costumes, Mark Lamarr was such a great host
Best intros round EVER.
More Bailey/Wakeman collabs would be awesome, wouldn't it?
Definitely! Shame they'll never bring the show back. Even if they did I doubt it wouldn't have the same magic.
One of my favourite moments from all of NMTB. I love when they way too into doing In Dulci Jubilo and Mark tries ineffectually to stop them.
Bill Bailey and Rick Wakeman should dress like that all the time, it would very entertaining.
Rick Wakeman is the best thing ever.
That's either the worst overall tone or the best black metal tone I've heard in my life.
Knowing bill he was probably aiming for that.
I thought they were playing Burzum's Dunkelheit...
Oh CZcams! Where's the Love button when you need it?
The moment I fell in love with Bill Bailey.
bender in a ski lift, I want that as my ringtone
This should be every year
RIP Sean Hughes rock on Rick and bill lol
Classic Wakeman style.
Seriously, the BBC needs to bring that show back. There’s next to nothing on the BBC apart from mock the week and have I got news for you that’s decent. Oh, forgot to say QI. But they seriously need to return this show to air. Preferably with Mark Lamaar as host.
Who would have guessed Sky would bring it back in 2021.
This is the greatest thing EVER!!!
These two play on Top Gear, years later.
Just Em where??? Show me! Love it
First song sounds (and looks) so much like Burzum it's scary.
Reminds me more of the video for "Call of the Wintermoon"

From epic to takin the piss out of mark xD
Truly legendary.
Makes thee proud t' be from this great music making and piss taking country !
>Stands, removes hat....wipes tear from eye
Brilliant 👍
Sadly, the double-A side single "Bender in a Ski Lift / Shave Your Back, Arse Face" is not available in the shops or on iTunes.
What's the original to bender in a ski lift?
@@CosmiCat100 “Girlfriend in a Coma” by The Smiths.
Takes talent to deliberately play badly - never realised that Bill was related to Les Dawson!

If there's a clip we've missed comment below!
Everything you haven't posted please.
Anyone else hear the Batman Animated Series theme?
Defo closer to that than The Clash.
Bender On A Ski Lift to the tune of Tiptoe Through The Tulips.
5:17
I thought they were doing The Cure - A Forrest.
Driving without an artistic license! [Joking]
re bailey tone im sure it would not be funny if they played it correctley, this is an updated version of les dawsons piano gag
Up the Kernow!
Music peaked with "Shave your back, arseface"
Oh, these were the days
that guitar tone is absolute shite. hillarious though
Yeah I think that was the idea lol
Everyone's a critic
Chaotic neutral at its finest
I AM RICK WAKEMAN AND MY GLASS IS DRY
sod slade, this is christmas :D
"Slade aren't just for Christmas, they're for life."
- Jamie "Fucking" (Tear Up) Flanagan - 2019
Save a prayer with no sequencer ........
respect Mr Wakeman
There aren't many musicians of Bill Bailey's stature. Oh, here comes Rick Wakeman, I'll shut up.
how many instruments does rick play?
This should be titled - What Gandalf and Saurman did next..
RIP Les McKeown
Please tell me I wasn't the only one who got Black Betty. In truth I got them all because I am a sad pathetic nerd.
Unless nights out end up like this, I
Have you got the full episode please
Mark loving life at 5:38
Rick Wakeman...is it bad I only know him from doing “The Burning” soundtrack 😂
It disturbs me greatly that BB's cape pinnacle/crest/apex thingy is not on straight.
Funny as fuck
I miss Lamarr
What is the proper song name to bender in a ski lift?
'Girlfriend in a Coma' by The Smiths
MrPhil1503 thanks! 😁
Man there’s some strange stuff on the internet
Wakeman weren't loud enough. Keith Emerson didn't want a loud, show-off lead guitar in ELP - you can see why. Brilliant idea, though, Wakeman & Bailey. They could've gone far - but didn't, or didn't want to. We know that BB can play anything but can Wakeman? Is he any good at guitar? Well, we'll never know how big Wakeman & Bailey would've been if they'd gone for it.
a.k.a. - Black metal covers
Is that the girl from Love Actually?
Does someone know what the clue was they played for Sean's team? I don't even know the song they played let alone what the clue was.
The clue was the theme tune to Black Beauty, the song was Black Betty by Ram Jam czcams.com/video/4cn_woPvjQI/video.html
Thanks.
I got mixed up in the songs. I thought the clue was for that Hellraiser thing (which is the song I don't know. Black Betty I do know and like.) Not that that makes a diffrence when it cames to the clue. :)
dcbsmt Hell Raiser by the Sweet
3:20 Anyone else realize Bill Bailey came up with Threshold (From Scott Pilgrim) o___O Wouldn't surprise me if that some how got passed on to the composer considering Bill & Edgar Wright (The Director) know each other
Beck wrote the music for Scott pilgrim
How the actualy fuck can it sound like a cheap 4 or 8 inch speaker combo?!?
Is he having a relapse?
What happened 7:14-8:08??
100 gecs
haha love it but that's a pretty horrific guitar tone 😂
Erm... this is from Series 6, not Series 1.
Sean Doherty It would be nice, yeah, but I think the cost of getting the rights for all the music and video clips would prove too prohibitive unfortunately 😞
The VHS Never Rewind the Buzzcocks was funny. They also had a book with a CD stuck on to play the quiz, it was a long hardback book. If these are on ebay I imagine they are cheap. Your thread is a year old, but just in case either are interested.
music and comedy.....it doesnt get any better really 🤍🏆
I gave a like just because of the crude guitar sound BB is playing (the show is not for people like me)
Bill Bailey was an absolute legend. RIP sir
Whut
@TeatherFilmLtd Productions yes....but one day he won't be and this comment will be there so we are prepared for the inevitable
Not a fan of that guitar tone in all honesty. Too thin for me.
Shame about all the bender jokes tbh
That's it, you tell those professional comedians how to do comedy.
@@jameseberhard7457 I will when it's straight men punching down and getting cheap laughs from saying a slur about gay people and taking the piss out of us.
@@KatherineOutten give it a rest...its funny
@@martinreed5964 not when you're gay and you've had those slurs used against you, or like me you grew up hearing those slurs from friends and family constantly reminding you that you're other before you even fully know what that means
Bender as in drunk or what?
I love bill bailey but that’s got to be the worst guitar tone I’ve ever heard
Marl lamar demonstrating his lack of comedy talent there.
Bailey is such a bad guitarist
Mike May he’s playing bad on purpose, Bill is actually an amazing guitarist in his live shows
@@jamescopping2231 He's really not. I know he was hamming it up for comic effect but I've seen him live too and he is still an awful guitarist. You can tell that keys were his first instrument as 1. He thinks chromatically and 2. He has no variation in attack. Like the guy (like I said, I've paid to see him). BTW, the scale of evil was genius
From the thumbnail genuinely thought Neil young was on nmtb!!!
