  • All jumps look pretty much the same when you're in the air. So what is the difference between a Lutz and a flip jump? Why is it called a double Salchow? And why is it spelled that way? What makes an Axel so tricky? I explain the six main types of figure skating jumps in this video.

    I always felt that people should call the axel a "double waltz jump". All double jumps are the jump plus a loop. An Axel is a waltz jump plus a loop. People work so hard and feel so expectant and defeated when they can't get that most difficult single, the axel. But it's really not a single; it's more accurately considered the easiest double. ... Just in my opinion 😁 Loved the video!

      This! I think the same. Not necessarily the easiest because in my personal experience my double salchow and toe loop were easier because I’m used to taking off backwards. But it shouldn’t be considered just a single. It’s a big accomplishment! (Which I still only land half the time lol)

    •  Před rokem +2

      It's not considered just a single. As coaches we put the Axel in its own separate category. As far as the learning progression, it comes after all the other single jumps.

    Hii! I’m a beginner, and I just had a question! So I have this issue where I definitely prefer to land my jumps on my left foot, hence turning clockwise p, but then I’m right handed, so I prefer to spin anti-clockwise which is on my left foot, but I put my weight on my right in spins…moral of the story, I’m very confused on which way I naturally rotate? Any tips? Thank you 😅😅

    •  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It’s best to choose a primary direction so that you are able to get your back spin, loop jump, Axel, etc later on. However, it can be beneficial to be able to jump and spin in both directions!

    What a fine video, thank you, Aimee' and happy New Year. I'm a bit confused with my salchow. Can you tap with a free leg toe , pivoting when you do salchow jump? Some tutorials show: no-no and some tutorials show pivoting and a little touch. Wish I could send you a video.

    •  Před rokem +2

      I know exactly what you mean. While it's not the classic entry, more and more skaters are entering Salchows that way, especially for triples and quads! As long as the edges are correct, it should be called as a Salchow. However, at the lower levels, some judges may be unfamiliar with that approach and not recognize it as a Salchow, unfortunately. I've seen that happen.

    I was curious if landing a jump on a backwards inside edge would open up a variety of new jump combinations, maybe even develop into whole a new jump?

    •  Před rokem +3

      Hi Aaron! All the listed jumps require a landing on a back outside edge except for the Euler- which used to be called a half loop. Many skaters use an Euler between jumps to facilitate the correct edge for the next jump.

      Figure skating is a sport that requires professional supervision and coaching.

    Hi Aimee. I was just wondering if you were still doing unboxing videos with misfits, worthy flavours etc, as unable to find new ones. Have a great day 😊

    •  Před rokem +1

      Hi Donna! As an experiment, I started to focus on skating videos in September. Funny thing is that my channel started to get more views, consistently! As much as I love doing those videos, they seemed to be holding me back. I had planned to continue them once a month or so. But, my busy season approached and it was better for my sanity to post just the skating videos - at least while it was busy. You are the first person to ask!

    • @Donna-zk6xn
      @Donna-zk6xn Před rokem +1

      Thank you for letting me know. I watch your unboxing videos every day. I am from Australia. I love the worthy flavours box and misfits. I wanted to say thank you to you for opening up my eyes with the way food is. I have started going organic. I have lost 3 kg, just being more mindful of what I am eating. So a big thank you from me in Australia. It is important that you do what is right for you. Wishing you all the best 😊

    •  Před rokem +1

      You're welcome Donna! I so happy to hear that my videos helped you! When I have time (after the busy skating season in my part of the world) I plan do do some updates. I hope you'll stay around :)

    I just found out my outside blade is higher than the inside one 😬

    •  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Do mean the your outside edge and inside edges on the same blade are not level? If so it sounds as if you may have gotten a bad sharpening!

    • @mikuhatsune6741
      @mikuhatsune6741 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @ ye the outside edge is higher than than the inside I don’t know how it had happend

    •  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@mikuhatsune6741 Unless it came that way due to a manufacturing defect, my guess would be that the person sharpening it may a serious error! Was this a reputable sharpening that is trusted by other skaters? What has your coach said?

    • @mikuhatsune6741
      @mikuhatsune6741 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @ well I haven’t noticed it till I took them to my local rink to be sharpened and they told me that they looked like they haven’t been sharpened in months but I had them sharpened 2 weeks ago and she saw the outside edge was higher up it is a trusted place so I’m not to sure how it’s happend

    •  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Someone messed up somewhere! Go back to your trusted tech and see if they can even them out!
