  • This is an oldie but goodie. Mike Kerson introduces us to Percheron owners who tell us about how they use this breed of draft horses and why.

First we visit All Seasons Carriage company in Lodi, California (no longer in business). They tell us how they use their Percherons do wine tours. They favor Percherons because of their temperament, personalities and lively movement. They tolerate noises and stimuli well which is needed in the places they must travel.
Next we visit Michael Muir, founder of Access Adventure which provides outdoor recreation opportunities for disabled people. We get to watch as Jack and Jake take wagonloads of people on various excursions. They are also used in competitions. He likes them for their trainability, beauty and animation
Stuart Schroeder of Santa Rosa, California introduces us to Ben and Bonnie, his gray Percherons. He uses them on his farm for spreading manure, raking and picking p hay, logging and carriage work.
Rick Newborn of Top Hand Ranch uses his Percherons in Old Town Sacramento to pull visitors in his covered wagons. He also uses them to ride, drive, show, in movies, Christmas rides and log skidding competitions. He likes them because they are dependable, solid, calm and willing to GO when you want them to.
Next up, Chrystal Ward, trainier, interviews Karleen Esparaza, owner, on how she uses her horse. She rides, pulls and competes with it.
Vernon Helmuth, trainer at Sargent Equestrian Cenyer talks about what he likes about this draft horse breed and how it has been bred to have longer legs. We see a team in a unicorn hitch with three horses.

Percherons are great! I bought my first one this summer, a 10 year old brood mare. After 8 weeks of training she does basic dressage figures and is a very willing student. I recommend the breed!

I love my Percherons, but I also loved the Belgians, the Haflingers, the Norikers, and Bavarian and Czech Warmbloods I had over the years.

Those kids throwing stuff at the horses at 14:45 would have gotten dumped off in the sh*ttiest neighborhood I could find.
