    I've been collecting Beatles Vinyl for close to 50 years now and have almost all the Japanese first issues.They're all extremely difficult to find Test Pressings.
    I bought most of these from a couple Japanese Journalists who where gifted these records from Toshiba in the 60's.
    Most are Red Wax and in Unplayed or Mint- condition. Have many 45's also and those are all Test Pressings.
    I have the Abbey Road Pro-use and Pink Floyd D.S.O.T.M. and they're both Test Pressings also. The First issues sound great, but these Test Pressings are personally my favorite in comparison to all the other versions that i own as well.
    What I've noticed by personally comparison with these records is that while most if not all other versions will, as volumes increase begin to distort.
    These Japanese first issue Test Pressings all seem to love gain. The more gain you give them the cleaner they sound with a larger growing Soundstage, and not at ear bleeding volumes either.
    I was amazed when the Journalists showed me this many years ago.
    I didn't believe it at first, they sounded good, but then he played a few different vinyl versions and i easily heard the difference, and didn't even think that by increasing the gain it would sound so much bigger, better etc, i just figured it would only get louder.
    The stock Japanese 1st Issues sound good, but the earliest Test Pressings have, for lack of a better word, juiced up by Toshiba even in comparison to their own stock Pressings. This has been done by I other record companies for many years to this day to impress Journalists , so they give a larger praise, which leads to, in the end more sales and more $$. The better your stereo equipment can reveal this is obviously a huge issue and a path we're all on toward the absolute sound.

    Those Japanese red Mono pressings from 82 are the best sounding and very quiet. So glad I bought them when they came out. Does anyone know if the same masters were used on the mofi black box as the individual LPs ? Abbey Road was 1979 and the rest were after the box in 82 ! The UHQR Pepper sounds ok, but not the best , wish I’d known about DSOTM UHQR when that came out. There also a Japanese mono box of singles on red vinyl too.

    There would be a good reason why at that time there was Original Master Recordings of the UK Beatles Albums and US Magical Mystery Tour in the early 1980s is that if they had control Apple Corps would have refused permission for this to take place. From the time that The Beatles Contract with EMI expired in 1976 to Apple Corps gaining control over what The Beatles released in 1988/89, is that The Beatles had no control over what EMI released, and that is why all those compliations appeared plus Live At The Hollywood Bowl.

    Cool collection, The US (A Hard Day's Night) album was not true stereo but taken from a Mono source. That is why there is no double tracking like the stereo UK version, but you can hear better single tracking from the original UK (A Hard Day's Night) mono LP and EP. That Red Mono box would be awesome to have but I have a good Beatles LP collection with many originals and the prices today are out of control, NM albums you could find for $20-30 5 years ago are going for 100+. I hope new Beatles vinyl continues to be of the highest quality.

      @12stringblues Před 10 měsíci

      @@archangelmusic13Yes they pressed some of the US version in Columbia Records Pressing Plant (Pitman and Terre Haute) and later in Capitol Pressing Plants. I don't have the original US version in vinyl (only on CD) but I own several of the UK and a German version LPs. I do have other LPs pressed at Pitman and Terre Haute and they are generally well made especially 60's and early 70's pressings. Overall the Beatles US pressings can sound good but usually the UK and German (also Japan) sound much better, but it is nice to have different versions. If you want the US version it is more for the Instrumentals between the songs and cover which is cool.

    Unfortunately some repeated misinformation here . . . on the actual EMI tape boxes are the dates that the master tapes were dubbed, and dubs sent out, for the MFSL cuts.
    So none of the MFSL discs were cut from THE master, always a 2nd gen (albeit high-quality) copy of the original. And in the case of 'Magical Mystery Tour,' the disc was cut from 4th-6th gen tapes (and boy, does it sound slushy as a result). Curiously, the 'Abbey Road' and 'MMT' sold outside the MFSL box both have different EQ than the versions in the box.
