As an American this is the first time I’m seeing the UK design for a lot of these albums, really cool stuff
That's how I felt in 1982 (and still do) when I started seeing the imports in record shops. "Wait, it's not Capitol? What? This has more songs than...? Holy shit this is great!" I just wanted to get another copy of Rubber Soul and stumbled upon my first import that way.

Fantastic collection. Recently I bought an original first DUTCH mono pressing of Please Please Me, in fantastic condition....so incredibly proud of it :)

The iconic Capitol black rainbow ring label was always synonymous with The Beatles hear in North America. I was surprised to discover another equally iconic UK Parlophone label when I purchased the brand new SGT Pepper LP in 2019.

I'd always thought that those 'Important' polylined inner sleeves lasted up until about June 1965 when the EMI companies were all novated to The Gramophone Co Ltd.
PS, I really enjoy your videos as I'd never really paid attention to matrix numbers in the run-off grooves.

Hey,Andrew-The mono HDN is a Pye contractor (chubby print).Philips took over with contracting Beatles For Sale pressings onwards,with Decca/Oriole stepping in as backups.They did some HDN's too(Philips,I'm referring to)

Got love the Parlophone label on their original Beatles UK albums. Other than that, it had this design that were also used in other labels when it was part of EMI including Columbia, Stateside, MFP, HMV, and Tamla Motown. As you probably know, Tamla Motown was a UK label where they put out the original Motown albums from the US for R&B and soul music. Many of the early Motown releases were on Stateside, another EMI product from the UK where they put out some early Motown stuff before Tamla Motown was formed in 1965. The “Sold in UK” text was also used between 1964 through 1968 were on Tamla Motown, HMV, Columbia, MFP, and Stateside.
Exactly right dude! Just one minor detail though, MFP wasn't included in that design style.

Yes,the stereo is a later Philips on Help!the song title font matches the Apple titles(White Album,Abbey Road,etc.)Font is the giveaway.
@2:17 i have the 1963 February Australian issue of this album in mono similar lay out with exceptions the catalouge number is PCS 3045 with the 33 1/2 speed above it with the prefix number below YEX 111 below on the left running ob both sides of the centre hole the publishing companies this practice was stopped in 1969 with the track layout and sides 1 and 2 similar to the Australian issue
The mono Help!is a Decca/Oriole,they contracted for the Long Tall Sally EP exclusively.
The comment for checking the title font for Help pressings was directed to Black and White Band's question,buried in the comments,contained within the ones below.

Also,check the song title font,if you have the Philips contract pressing.The font was later changed,so check with a copy of the White Album,which would have the same font.
That Help!pressing was later.

Yes I immediately thought for PPM, 1965 sleeve but Summer 64 pressing inside, because of that 'fat' lettering on the STEREO and the 'copperplate' style lettering on the track listing (contemporary with AHDN).
15:20 I have a VHS recording of It Was Twenty Years Ago Today documentary recorded in 1987. Watched it a few months ago. Still looks good.

16:05 I think that is the first Sgt. Pepper I've seen with the cut-outs actually cut out (but still present). It seems that either the cut outs are fully intact or they are missing altogether.
The UK “Sgt. Pepper” LP had the inner groove at the end of side 2 where it was gibberish like “Lucy Abbey all the way”, and when you play it backwards, it says “And were all be back here soon” or “All were all be back as Superman”. The US version doesn’t have it at the end of side 2.
It's a shame the Peppers weren't 4th Proof printed-on- inside -cover copies,Andrew.I had two with the 70 copies I got from my buddy in North New Jersey,when I bought his 40 bins collection back in 2015.Its all been sold unfortunately.

I always mused on the reason for the word "PROHIBITED" in the rim text getting knocked out of line on the change to The Gramophone Co Ltd. I always imagine the guy substituting the new wording into the master plates knocking the word PROHIBITED with his chisel, making it ping off somewhere onto the workshop floor, and having to stick it back into place!

How these are preserved so well blows my mind! How does the White album is so white and clean? Doesnt yellow paper normally turn yellow over time? Any tips for this? Thank you
Most albums from the 60's turned yellow from smoke. If you don't smoke, don't worry.

They were very well looked after. Unlike U.S. copies, the laminated front panels protected them against ring wear.

Do you have the original 1964 vinyl album of the Australian cover version of Beatles for Sale with the yellow background & the live in concert photos from Festival Hall in Melbourne? Apparently John Lennon rang up the Australian EMI distributor asking them to change the cover to the leafy UK version, but they refused (so much for the power of being a "Beatle"). The vinyl version I bought in Sydney Australia in 1987 is the 1987 Festival Hall version. I didn't buy the leafy CD until a few years later. Also there was a different version of With The Beatles cover art I would see in second hand shops in the late 80s with their heads arranged in a cross configuration as opposed to the 3 across 1 down photo.
Hey,Brian -I had a PPM Blue font cover,Black and Gold labeler,as well as a "With "Black and Gold(they are much nicer with the flat matting on the black background than the glossy UK Parlis,for PPM)I even had the Stereo Black and Silver" With" stereo !!I found out ALL the Stereo firsts for Aussies were Black And Silver designers for the labels!!Pretty neat!! I'd love to get them all.I don't have the first three anymore.
Andrew, I could use some Help!... specifically Help determining an early 1st pressing Stereo Help!. In your video (as well as about 10 other places) its claimed that the asterisk comes AFTER "I Need You" . However after a dealer online debated with me up and down that his copy with an asterisk to the LEFT of "I Need You" was a first issue, I decided to contact Bruce Spizer and Perry Cox. To my surprise they concur with the ebay dealer. I'm now as confused as ever. The only other difference I can find between a 65 and a 66 stereo pressing is the spacing between (YEX168) and (P) 1965
On first pressings the asterisk comes after 'I Need You'.
Take a look at it on these labels on copies I've sold.

Up until revolver, I only recognize the US albums. Unlike the UK albums, The US albums, we’re only released in America.Unfortunately, I had to by the Beatles mono with The UK albums. But I did buy the Capitol albums volume one and two. They needed to volume three, but that never happened.
Interesting Bernard, is that because that's what you've grown up with/are used to, or do you prefer the US track grouping/sequencing when compared to the UK versions?

stlydan You have an American versions, I think, not British; different in tracks lineup & covers, made from copies of original master tapes, send to America from Abbey Road Studios except Magical Mistery Tour, which is “native American”, as far as I remember...

By the way I'm not saying this to be a smart Alec because I made the same mistake for years too, but Patent as in Patent Applied For is pronounced "Pattant" rather than "Paytant" (as in Patent Leather). Took me a long time to believe that myself!

I have all of those, mine are different versions though, mostly US, some are a lot rougher condition, some are better, like my re stickered butcher baby i got at goodwill for 25cents.

Andrew can you recommend a specific style/brand glove to wear while handling LPs? I know it sounds silly, but I dont want any lint from the gloves getting on them. Also, do you currently have any early STEREO UK 1st pressings for sale?

Hi Andrew, can you clarify for me... On the run-off groove, did the '- 1, 2, or 3 indicate the pressing of the albums?
I have a mono copy of 'A Hard Day's Night' which has a '-3 N' in the run-off groove. This was the first Beatles album I was given; my cousin, (who lives in Glasgow) used to go round jumble sales looking for Beatles albums for me. He would then bring them to me when visiting my family with his parents .
Hi Gordon, On most albums -1 indicated a 1st pressing. However, 1st pressings of 'A Hard Day's Night' and 'Beatles For Sale' used -3.

Old, original covers were glossy, shiny and HD...today’s reissues are rubbish offset prints
Depends on the kid of card they use. If they use regular Ivory paper or Mirror Coat,m the quality will be low, but if they use 350GSM Matt, with a Lami/gloss finish, it'll look like the old ones.
Its actually kinda the other way around in my experience.
Rubber Soul mono is a Philips.-1?!!!?Should be the loud cut mix.

Where can I buy a collection like this one, something with (relatively) quiet clean vinyl? In not so much looking for valuable as I am for sound quality. I' don''t trade or sell/use my records to make money, but in all my travels, anything Beatles commands an obscene sum. The obvious BC/BM boxes are stupid expensive as are the later Stereo/Mono sets from the 2000's.
I listen to my vinyl regularly, not worship or pplace it on a shelf to look at/brag about, so again, it doesn't need to be valuable or high dollar, just clean and quiet. I'm looking for UK/German, the stuff from over here in the states is garbage.

My rarer records are stored in polypropylene outer sleeves. These are resealable, so no air circulation (or is this bad?). They are stored in my collecting room, no sun, smoke and low humidity.
Any tips to preserve the record and the sleeve (artwork) I would very much appreciate.

Neither were UK albums. Yesterday & Today was a US compilation; and Magical Mystery Tour was an E.P. (until '76).
But yesterday and today was originally made and 1966

Because this is a collection of UK albums, of course he's not going to have Yesterday and Today because that was never released in Britain. Magical Mystery Tour wasn't taken into the canon until 1976. This has been explained by others as well.
Yesterday and Today was a compilation album using tracks from the British Help!, Rubber Soul and the forthcoming Revolver albums with a couple of singles thrown in. It was purely a Capitol cash in.
What is this alternate version of Tomorrow Never Knows?
After the first issue the track was replaced with a different version, albums with original mix have a matrix number ending in 1 on Side 2

Why is the Australian " Beatles for Sale " different to the UK &US
The cover is the only difference between the UK and Australian issue. 'Beatles For Sale' wasn't released in the U.S.

When EMI before closed your doors,coming in last moment those albuns collection in 2012 and I bought the Lp Help! but no playing very well this album I don´t know why?I used a spray and brush for cleaning the lps,but only this Help Lp no playing how shoulder it.When give the start, jump any tracks and isn´t problem with my turntable,because the capsule is new,but the Lp no function very well.So pass some years more later,here in Japan a publishing company relaunched all Beatles albuns and by Universal and when I bought the Help lp,now playing in normal condition,no jump the tracks and give a good sound yet.I don´t know what happen with EMI vinyl as only this lp no playing in good condition and give all that problem.Because have this problem perhaps EMI ready be declared bankruptcy and closed your doors so the quality of products no was good my guess.The prodution of lp down or EMI lost marketplace for independent record labels can be.So this perhaps shoulder be the situation of company ok.Uchino of Japan.Thank you.
