    awesome kiln opening Lisa. RE: the different colors of turquoise might be because the temp was either too much on the top shelves where it burnt out or didnt reach the correct temp (its always such a guessing game, especially since I dont use temp cones) and lesser temp on the bottom shelf and reached exactly what its supposed to so they turned out the beautiful turquoise on the others. just a theory. I cannot tell you how MUCH i REALLY REALLY love your pieces. you are so imaginative and creative and always come up with absolutely beautiful pieces thanks for your inspiration. thanks from a friend from New Jersey to someone I consider a friend in Cincinnati! Keep on showing us your stuff! Stay Well and Happy

      Awww, thank you so much!!!! ❤️ What a kind thing to say. I was wondering the same thing about the temperature difference in the kiln, but since I forgot to put witness cones on each shelf, its hard to say. Ugh. I won't forget next time! But that's my guess as well. I'm going to glaze some more pieces, though, and see how they survive. :-) The disappointment is real, but it's a learning experience. Thanks for watching! Stay warm in New Jersey! 😀

      Thanks. Yes, the glaze I mix is Jessica's 2167 Clear Glaze! 😀 For some reason, though, it has been firing a little cloudy lately with only two coats, and I'm wondering if one of the ingredients I'm buying has changed sources. I think I'll mix up a new batch, and give it another try. 🤔 Thanks fir watching!!

    I think the outcome of Amaco green Velvet Underglazes, and other colors depends on if the clear glaze contains zinc.

    • @WildAcornsArtStudio
      @WildAcornsArtStudio  Před rokem +1

      Yes, that is supposedly true. I always use a clear that is zinc-free. I have had some colleagues do underglaze testing with clear glazes that have zinc in them, and they swear there is no difference, but hey, I'm going to listen to the company that makes the glazes. LOL. :-)

    Lisa-Girl! I literally tan to KY Mudworks today. Got more Speckled Brown Bear (I love their clay!) and Speckled Turtle, and almost grabbed Tortuga, but decided I am using their "Glacier" on my plates! and eager to try their Sunflower on some of my goodies. Hi Lisa - enjoyed the video - very disheartening when things don't turn out as you had hoped or there are cracks!!! My favourites were the Hydrangea bowl and the shallow dish you said was glazed in Tortuga - with hints of brown - love blues and aqua/turquoise!!! The little pots for the air plants are cute & I likes the little black pebble pots you did for air plants on a previous video - think it is a good idea to purchase the air plants just before you sell them and let someone else kill them!!!!!!! I LOVE every single piece! Your work is just amazing!! I love that you had a stamp made! What a great idea! Did you say where you had it made? I’d love to know. As far as the backs of your plates when you water down the glaze fir the front maybe use non watered down on the back and crosshatch the layers to get more even coverage. The only kind of plant I don’t kill are fake ones! That’s the only way I can have any greenery in my home! I absolutely agree with you about the soap dishes! That’s just silly to not use something to catch the water. Lol

      @@WildAcornsArtStudio We all do that! I just wanted to remind you. You put sooo much work into every piece that I don’t want you to have to lose a piece or not be able to sell it. Also, for your clear I’m assuming your using a zinc free?

    • @WildAcornsArtStudio
      @WildAcornsArtStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      @@micheledickey4066 yes, it's a zinc-free clear glaze. I have mixed 4 different recipes, and not one is clear after 2 coats. I'm thinking that the kiln is not getting hot enough. The witness cones say it is, though. My students are also not happy when their pieces turn cloudy. :-( It's frustrating. I have some more testing to do, to see what happens when fired hotter, and in different kilns, and also if perhaps it's being applied too thick. 🤔 And yes, so much time involved to not turn out. :-(

    • @micheledickey4066

    Jessica Phillips has a clear recipe on her resources page and I'm pretty sure she has a video of her making it on her clayshare site. For your turquoise glaze you might want to really mix it up good glazes will separate. And you might want to test it to see if it's at the correct specific gravity. If it has too much or too little water will effect the color when fired.

    • @WildAcornsArtStudio
      @WildAcornsArtStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      The turquoise glaze I'm referring to in the video is one of Amaco's Velvet Underglazes. It's pre-mixed, but I do mix it again when I use it. I really think it has to do with temperature, because it turned out perfect on the bottom of the mugs. I'm going to do some test tiles with it. A lot of underglazes don't like going to cone 5/6. 😕 Thanks for the suggestions!!! And thanks for watching!
