  • With a lake of pure acid and strange blue flames that emanate from beneath the volcano, Kawah Ijen is surely one of the most dangerous places to work in the world. Yet people risk their lives to work at the crater…geologist Dr Glyn Williams-Jones and filmmaker Régis Etienne explain why.

Just wanted to make a comment on the end. Yes, say you can warn the workers and stop them from going there, then what, how are they going to get paid? That's their job. They don't have the luxury to call in sick or just leave work for a week. People in the west need to realize this when they start to directly impact workers in a low wealth area. In the end no matter what you do they'll go and work there even if it's very dangerous. Funny thing the guy in the "top" who probably isn't even there is making a lot of money. Cheap labor is easy to come by in areas like that. I'm glad we didn't see children working there but you never know what's really going on when the camera team leaves. Also called reality.
If you really wanted to help people like this then you'd go to the root of the problem to why poverty is so widespread and deal with that head on. Of course that won't happen because it'll take time and money so let's just look away and ignore it while focusing on other things.

They dont have the luxury of choosing where they can work.
