    Those doors sound solid! I’m looking into these cars. I like the look of the earlier cars. Euro lights, bumpers and hardtop and color keyed hubcaps. Thx for the review. Big help indeed.

    Great Video, i appreciate your knowledge and obvious love for the 107. The manual top is part of the romance behind ownership, i enjoy the German design and engineering and it looks so good when up. At that time, the concealment of the cloth top under a cap was unheard of, but confirmed the vehicles lines perfectly, everyone else was driving around with an exposed folded top even jaguar and Aston Martin. Thank you for you time , great video. ( yep im an owner)

    Regarding the "missing plastic protective cover for the Behr air conditioning" you refer to at the start of this video: 1. That is not the AC, that's the radiator. 2. The still photo at 1:34 corresponds to a 450SL, not a 560SL. (Easy to spot for the smaller cold air intake of the 450SL). 3. That "black piece" in that photo is not a "cover" but the 450SL radiator instead. That is metal; not plastic. 4. The 560SL you show has its factory radiator on it and it appears that is not missing anything. :)

    A couple of comments here,
    I noticed the exhaust manifolds
    are rusty and the heat shield are too.
    Generally nobody replaces those,

      After just a 1,000 miles the exhaust manifolds started to change color
      from the gray to looked like a rust color. To eliminate the color change
      I sent the original exhaust manifolds that I kept to JET HOT CERAMIC
      COATING. The originals looked very very rusty and I thought they wouldn't
      be able to do anything with them. WOW! When I got them back they looked
      better than NEW. IMHO money well spent. You can"t buy these anymore

    I have neighbors who just have the Mercedes 560 sl sitting there, I’m only 16 years old and still don’t know how to drive but I’ll like to tell her if she would sell the car so if I where to buy it , I would be the first one. I had took pictures of it also so I can show it to my parents. I am kinda afraid to knock on her door, she is just an old woman who has some aggressive dogs. The car is just fascinating, I would really love to own it but afraid that it will need some repairs and come out very expensive. Any advices ?

    • @ebgreenham
      @ebgreenham Před 3 lety

      This is not a beginners car. You most likely have to spend money and time to service it. You should really start with a used Corolla, Camry, or Civic, and then if you want a 560SL maybe consider it later on. But you’re much better off with a reliable well maintained Toyota or Honda as your first car.

      shadychrisuk I’m not quite sure what you mean. The 560SL has an aluminum hood versus 450sl older models which are made of steel. You can really tell the difference in weight when lifting the hood up and down.

    These cars are attractive in Euro guise, but these days are too slow and don't handle well enough for a daily driver and the convertible roof is too awkward to use. They are also getting very expensive! Best to buy a R129 which is a far better car with superior handling and a fully automatic roof. They are far better daily drivers so unless you ar going to put yours behing velvet ropes in your garage buy the R129!

      Idelia412 this car is beyond decent. Especially for the price I bought it for. To make this car truly perfect (as previously mentioned is very expensive and would be a shame to drive as much as I do mine) I would need to reupholster the interior and replace the seat covers. Perhaps refinish the wood as well. This is a car that is well kept and cared for in good used condition. The interior has cleaned up very well since I filmed this video. There are far more ratty interiors on high mileage cars.

    I don't think this guy knows as much about the car as he thinks. The grill right in front of the windshield has to be black. If it's body color, the car has been resprayed. I couldn't get a good look at the grill, but it appeared red.

    • @rubinhoward7309
      @rubinhoward7309  Před 4 lety +5

      Mr. Mike the hood cowl vent is body color. I believe you are talking about the fine mesh grill below the vertical slats. Yes they should be black, and are indeed black on this example. This video is based purely on my ownership and maintenance expertise that I have accrued in the years of owning many examples. If I am clearly incorrect about something please do correct me but I do not appreciate negative criticism based on the evidence “I couldn’t get a good look at the grill”. 6:04 clearly shows the drivers side cowl, 19:40 shows the passenger side cowl.
