- The Horse Shelter Heroes assisted law enforcement on a large hoarding case where over 100 animals were seized from a woman who was previously found guilty of animal abuse. Rescue staff of Horse Plus Humane Society saved 74 animals from a horrific situation that many animals had not survived.
Thank goodness the sheriff's office did what was needed, and arrested the female owner. Thank you for working with the sheriff's office, rescuing all the animals, and taking care of them. No animal should be treated the way this woman treated them.

The problem is that places like rural America there is literally no laws on the books for animal cruelty.
People need to contact all local county and city legislators to pass real laws with real consequences in these areas to truly seek justice for the animals....
The high cost of doing this rescue and the subsequent ongoing costs of vet and meds and feeding and rehoming just cannot be calculated. However it brings to mind all those who complain that Horse Plus charge for adoption. From the little profit from that if there is any, goes towards things like this. Thank you Horse Plus for your massive help and input to rescue these animals in a most desperate situation.
Oh my gosh, when I saw the birds and leopard geckos in that situation, my heart broke even more. I have birds and a leopard gecko, and seeing them like that broke my heart.
This is so sad. You can tell that woman probably started out with good intentions and a love for animals, but her mental health caused so many animals to suffer. Thank God you were there to help and get those animals to safety, and I hope she also gets the help she needs.
It's unfortunate because if she would have gotten help a long time ago, this could have been avoided and it never would have gotten this far. Hoarding is such a bad mental illness and it doesn't usually go this far but when it does...it's hard to look at. She should be charged and punished but at the same time she also needs help so she doesn't do this again.
All the animals look so relieved to have a safe place. Keep up the good work!!
Birds will pull out their own feathers when they're stressed it's why they were missing so many feathers and the lizard were leopard geckos.

Some of these people are mentally ill or just evil. If she has had previous problems, should be checked on frequently so does not happen again. God Bless you people.
That photo of her in Alabama when she was arrested in 2009... She was smiling & had makeup on... She clearly KNEW she was violating her probation order... Moved to a different area & just picked right back up doing the same thing are KNEW WAS WRONG from the start... I don't think this lady was mentally ill or unable to care for these poor animals properly- I just don't think she CARED! And no doubt she DID NOT HAVE ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGEABLE & know-how to properly care for ALLL THOSE different species of animals either- but ignorance is no excuse! That lady needs to do SOME REAL EFFING TIME- A YEAR IN A SCUZZY COUNTY JAIL AT LEAST!And I sure hope she gets slapped with something more like $10,000 Fine this time, screw that $100 BS. Guys, be careful with parrots that aren't already kept in the same cage. Even side-by-side parrots can be territorial enough to maim or kill each other when kept in the same carrier or cage.

So freaking sad, I've always wanted a African grey or a cockatoo, but can't afford one they're really expensive, it's infuriating to see what this lady did to these beautiful animals she was fortunate to have.
Cockatoos live to well over 100 years when well kept. One patient of mine had a 98 year old Cockatoo passed down from her grandmother and mother, both of whom she had outlived. Poor bird lived in a cage all those years which when you see them in flocks overhead flying for hundreds of kilometres is just so wrong. Please only ever rescue a bird, never by from a breeder.
OMG, OMG, I couldn't get over those tiny mini ponies and the tiny tiny baby pony that was sooo cute , I just wanted to hug that baby, baby mini pony. Don’t be too quick to judge all the animals had good temperaments. If they had been treated with cruelty they would not have had such accommodating behaviour. So easy to have good intentions but be overwhelmed by lack of money/experience. Sadly seen the situation too many times.

I have not stopped crying since i saw the animals in such HORRID condition. May the owner spend many years for each animals she harmed. Personal thoughts. May all these darling little and big critters find loving homes for each and every one.

My first time viewing this, and my heart just broke for all these animals and for all of you having to deal with such a situation. I'm grateful that you were there to help them. I don't understand how someone can do this to innocent animals. I'm a farmer in Idaho. Never, ever would I treat my animals like than. I know myself, I know my limits and how many of what I can handle. And while it has never needed it, I know I have neighbors who can help if needed. Thank you so much for what you are doing. My prayers are with you.

What a great job you do! It's such a shame that the perpetrator's sentencing is so light, she should have at least done some time in jail, fed on bread and water with pictures from her farm of all the dead animals pinned to her cell walls. See how she would like it.

The tears filled me up and my heart broke seeing how poorly these animals were treated. Do you know how they are all doing now a year later? The Parrots must have taken some handling for any new owners as they would be psychologically damaged because they are so intelligent. My heart will mend for all the animals rescued by you wonderful wonderful people, all of you are Earth Angels. Thank you for all you continue to do.

My daughter had two African geese related to the Chinese swan.beautiful birds i helped her raise up when she joined the army an had to leave they needed someone who could be around more to give them more attention as they were very tame an I couldn't care for them with work an health,I called our local zoo for advice they put me in the right direction.within an hour the new owners wanted them. Great people...
I was so glad to see these animals saved from the heinous conditions that they were in. All of those animals and birds were once beautiful creatures. Because you helped them they will be again. With all the cars and trucks lining the lane to the house I thought there were going to be lots and lots of ppl there, good thing this family came down or they would of not had any help. Amazi g How many species of animals they rescued a representive from every family just about. When they took the parrots and lizards I cried because no life form turned away.also amazing is so many other organizations working in tandem with them. I Cannot believe how orchestration went so Well. animals seem to to know when they're being helped. The parrots would not bite these people they Feel the caring vibe. I couldn't Believe 1000s of dollars in birds rare heritage breeds of livestock. May the Lord bless these people and they're selfless caring work . I can't say enough.

It sure looks like that woman needed to be rescued along with her animals. From all that confusion and over 100 miscellaneous animals, she was only charged with 2 counts of animal cruelty, a class B misdemeanor, and sentenced to 2 years probation and $100 fine. The confiscated animals must have been in satisfactory condition. She is barred from owning large animals and can own only 1 cat and 1 dog. She should have been required to have weekly psychiatric treatment for 2 years to go along with her 2 years of probation. She has a large property for only 1 cat, 1 dog and herself. From here I don't see how she will keep from re-offending, but that's my unsolicited opinion.
Honestly, I can't see how they'll keep her from doing it again either. Unless she's under supervision, it'll keep happening. We need better animal abuse laws at a federal level in the US. Just leaving it up to individual states results in too many cases like this because at the state level, some care, some just don't, or don't have the resources to enforce laws even if they had the will to make them.

I lived in a small indigenous community where many were abusive neglectful to their pets. The community was on top of it did their best to remove the animals and they were not missed by the owners there you go.

She is probably a hoarder, and something went totally awray. If you look at the difference between her two photo's, something is going on with her. The whole thing left me with disgust. In Holland these people at best get fined, never jailed. But what can you expect: we are the meatfarm of Europe, factoryfarming for endless lust for meat.
