This has to be the most Hard-Hitting episode I’ve ever watched. It broke my heart to hear the little girl cry , even though she knew that gentle giant had no hope of recovery. If this episode doesn’t get the message across about the horses that end up in the Slaughter Pipeline then nothing will. I’ve no doubt there will be complaints about the end of life procedures but life isn’t all sweetness and light and sometimes it takes cold hard facts to get the message across. Thank god for these wonderful people, these Earth Angels make up for the previous cruelty at the hands of man. God bless you all. Love from Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤

Thank you for showing the euthanasia. I imagine that you debated a lot about whether to show it. And I also expect that you will get some negative feedback about it. But I wanted to voice my feeling of "closing the circle" by seeing the relief of the suffering.
Having had anesthesia myself prior to procedures to fix something that was causing me great pain, I can only imagine the relief these poor tortured animals feel when the anesthesia begins to take effect. It may be only moments that they are aware that they no longer feel pain, but after years of suffering what a profound relief that must be. Thank you for standing in the gap for these sweet innocent animals. You clearly demonstrate the best side of humanity.

We had two 45 year old horses at the large stable I took lessons at when I was young. They were healthy, great sturdy horses that trained beginner riders. So only walked and trotted a bit. You would never know they were that old. Just the white facial fur mix revealed their age. We had a special birthday celebration at one of our horse shows for them and they galloped together around the ring without riders and seemed to really know something special was happening. All the stable's horses were so well taken care of. All had great body condition and good feet. In winter they were able to spend most of the time in the paddocks loose and in a herd. There were no troop lessons in the heat of summer.
When I see how hard life has been for your auction horses with some age on them, it makes me sad. I KNOW horses can stay healthy and enjoy life into their 40s if taken care of responsibly. Keep doing your wonderful rescue work. We need to support rescue all over the country! I wish I were wealthy because I'd buy portable xray machines for every large animal rescue that needed one.

How wonderful, what an amazing age. This channel saved my horse's life, I own a 27 year old gypsy horse, he has had eyes problems (periodic eye inflammation)since the summer, always had a vet come each time. Well it has become incureable I don't want him to live a life in pain. I had the tough choice I had to make, eye removed or last act of kindness. I have watched all the videos here where horses have had eyes removed. Then i had to think would he cope with the stress of transport and being in a clinic. My vet assured me he is fit enough to travel and to have the operation. Also, watching these videos of some of the poor horses that had been through hell but made it out fine gave me the courage to say operate. All went well, they said his blood results are all perfect, he stood better during the operation than a lot of younger horses. They said although he is old, he has been so well looked after that he coped so well. I will be picking up tomorrow. If people care properly for their horses they can really get old. Yes, cost a lot and takes more time with older horses, but It's so worth it.

I am so glad that you do this for them. Too many humans make it all about them. I can't do this. I can't handle the sadness - but they'll watch that animal suffer. I see it with so many pets, including horses and the pure selfishness of that attitude gets me every time. If you take an animal into your care, you have a duty of responsibility to them - right down to ushering them out of this world in the gentlest manner possible. Thank you all very much for being apart of this rescue and boot camp learning. I have never seen this type of euthanasia done and sadly I have had to have three of our babies put down over the years, due to broken leg at 18 yrs our 34 yr old with cancer and other boy at 30 yrs with a twisted bowel.
The most heartbreaking is that two we had to make the hard call of having them shot as our closest vet is 6 hours travel from where we live, the oldest boy gave us enough warning to be able to get a traveling vet come to us and put down humanely. All three rescues are laid to rest together.
I still cry for those who had to be shot, and I felt like I had failed them. My husband passed away 3 year before his paint boy died and I decided not to rescue any more being 70yrs old now, alone and not good health. Being so far from vets was also a huge factor.

I'm glad you showed the euthanasia process. People need to see the real toll it takes on rescuers and veterinary staff. I've done small animal rescue (mainly cats, my specialty being feral cats, orphan kittens and hospice care), but I had a friend who did draft rescue and went to a few auctions with her.
It's absolutely tragic the way humans treat animals. I've seen truly horrific things in the last 20 years. A litter of feral kittens, only a few weeks old, intentionally run over by a lawn mower. Cats with embedded collars put on them as a kitten. Kittens tossed from cars. Just an endless cycle of human cruelty.
But I've also seen the best parts of humanity. Homeless people feeding feral cat colonies with what little money they had. People making donations and sponsoring injured or sick cats so we didn't have to euthanize due to lack of funds.
I enjoy watching your channel. It's a really honest, raw look into what rescue is. I couldn't do equine rescue myself, spinal cord injuries and living in a trailer park don't lend well to larger animal rescue lol. But you guys are doing amazing work. Keep showing us the hard stuff, people need to know what is like to go through it. Rescue isn't for the weak.

This episode was SO impressive! Seeing the in-depth workings of this organization was, I’m sure, overwhelming for the other rescues but it must have been so helpful as well! It was interesting to see what parts of the intake process were seen to be the most “needed” by each rescue as well! By the way, Dr. Lydia is AMAZING to watch! She has a teaching style that makes each process a learning experience for the viewer!

This was the most moving Horse Plus video I've watched yet. It was very good even though what's brought these animals to the lat act of kindness is very disturbing. Such a blatant disregard for life and lack of compassion. I often wonder if many of the owners don't understand that prey animals instinctually hide their pain.

Angela, I doubt the owners would care about their horse's pain. They were just glad to get rid of them for a few bucks. Unbelievable, isn't it?!!! 😪😭💟

It's so sad to see such young horses in such horrible condition. The horse I learned to ride on was 28 and you'd have thought she was 6. She only died around 40 and was ridden almost to her last days.

Never get tired of watching and listening to Dr. Young work. She's a gem. MIss watching more detail of the vet techs, too. And thank you for showing the Last Act of Kindness. That took courage to do. I don't normally like Horse Rescue episodes that much, but this one was very emotionally powerful, and the last couple have been quite well done.

I had my old mare spayed 10 years ago (well, it was actually an ovariectomy-removal of the ovaries, but leaving the uterus-but the result is the same). My mare had incredibly painful ovulations. Early on it did show out as just being marish and training problems; but for her it progressed to where we actually thought she was regularly colicking-but her ovulations had just got that painful that she would go down and roll and grunt. Thank goodness for my vet who figured it out and recommended the spay. Her pain went away immediately, and she was so much happier (and so I was too!). Definitely something I think more people should investigate more often if they’re having issues with mares. Even 10 years ago it was a simple laparoscopic surgery done in stocks, no GA needed. Nice to see this is an option you have now.
Thank you for saving so many precious lives and ending their pain. ❤

That was very interesting, even if sad. I have a older mare and I am struggling to keep her as I don’t own property. I would sooner poke my eye out than put her to a auction. I was there when she was born and I will be there when it is time for her to move to the next plain.

I can't help but think maybe the owners of that red pony that was 30+ just could bear the pain of putting her down. It's hard to have compassion for someone that lets their very old buddy go on in so much pain, but I can't help but imagine the pain they also must have felt... And ponies don't get to that age with for no reason, whoever raised her obviously cared for her. So sad.

I'm so glad you have found a better way than the green dream to help these poor souls leave this world in less distress than they lived their last days/weeks. Watching this broke my heart….not only that but it reminded of the time I had to give my mare who was 32 at the time the last act of kindness cause she went down in her stall and could get back up…do to multiple things including old age….being there for her in her last moments of life was so hard….I just new she was loved and surrounded by people she loved and that’s all I could ever ask for….and that was the first time I’ve ever had to deal with the passing of my horses.
