Be prepared for anything with the Gerber 22-41121 Prodigy Survival Combat Knife. Featuring ultra-durable stainless steel construction and an ergonomic overmolded rubber handle, the Prodigy provides a sure grip in all conditions and boasts a great balance and feel. Whatever outdoor adventure you tackle next, the Prodigy will be there to see you through.
Full Tang Blade for Strength and Durability
Featuring a design inspired by the award-winning LMF II, the Prodigy packs a punch yet is still compact enough for optimum portability. This full tang, U.S. 420HC stainless steel blade is beefy enough to handle whatever comes its way, and its black oxide coating provides improved corrosion resistance and reduced visual signature, so you can take it with you on any kind of excursion, or for outdoor adventures.
Ergonomic Handle for Secure Grip
The Prodigy's ergonomic, over-molded rubber handle ensures a soft, comfortable, and secure grip no matter what the conditions. Much like the knife, the sheath is designed to live up to any task with a friction-release thumb lock for security and a range of non-detection features. It also includes a belt loop for fast hanging.
MIRS and MOLLE Compliant Materials
In addition to providing a better grip, the molded TacHide coating dampens noise, and like the ballistic nylon material, is MIRS compliant. The Prodigy is also MOLLE compatible and includes a leg strap and two additional attachment straps for added security.
Compact Design for Pocket Portability
With an overall length of 9.75 inches and blade length of 4.75 inches, the Prodigy is compact enough to hang on your belt or strap on your leg without weighing you down.
About Gerber: A History of Innovation
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that have contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
It makes sense, really. An idea man gets the idea of a lifetime and turns it into a major outdoor brand--one that commands respect among knife lovers and knife makers alike. And now that same high regard is spreading in new directions, in the form of many outstanding products such as tools, personal L.E.D. lighting, and more.

Also- this is such a fun knife to experiment with modifications. And you won't feel guilty because it's sub 30$.
Mods I made(just in case you came here to talk about knives with someone)-
Knife- the blade geometry was slightly more obtuse than I prefer, so I steepened it, and finished it off with a slight convex. That removed the ceramic coat on the bevel, but I do lots of knife maintenance, so I don't mind.
I also made the spine a bit sharper with a file, and with the same file, I rounded over the sharp pommel. Really makes reverse grip with thumb assist possible with that glass/skull crusher bleeding you out from the thumb during bigfoot fights.
Then with very same file, removed the top guard so I can choke up better.
Sheath- removed everything attached to the plastic sheath. Attached inside out leather belt loop that doubles as a strop. Wrapped up a bunch of Paracord, added 4 ranger bands.
It rides my back right pocket, most of the sheath in my back pocket, the strap level with the top of the belt. I put brass rivets in the 2 top most holes of the sheath peened over. Makes retention serious, and maintains that no rattle quiet ride.
If you read this, you're not alone in the world, talk to me about knives.
Where is it $30? Walmart in AZ its $62
@@maxwellhowell I got it a few years ago in Another state.
Was last on shelf sale
I'm left handed, how's the sheath for a lefty, ambidextrous? Easy to switch around? Thanks
That is a great knife. You can't have too many knives.

*That is a great knife. You can't have too many knives.*
There ain't no such thang as "too many knives".
Very helpful and easy going video. Love the way how you take your time and demonsrate everything
Thanks!
Walking out of Walmart at the moment one in hand $62
I almost bought them at $50 at Walmart around the new year but I didn't have the budget for it. But, for $62 now there's still the best bang-for-the-buck survival type knife I think.
Got mine for 39.99 the other day from Walmart !
Wow! Should have gotten 2!
It was the last 1 !
I love my Prodigy. It's one of my best friends.
I have the Prodigy I absolutely love this knife, it is one of my edc’s 👍🏻
I like it & the fine edge version is my favorite
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Where did you get yours Fat Leo ?
I have Prodigy Tanto serrated.
Softer steel doesn't break as easily. Where as hard brittle steel breaks easier.
Great knife...I dislike the sheath as well for the same reasons. Still don't know what's up with the little fold over velrco things in the front. For batoning, drive the knife into the round for a few inches then invert it 180 and rest the exposed tip of the blade on another surface...log, the wall in front of you, etc, and then baton the round through the blade.
I own this knife! I got an after market kydex sheath and its great!
Thanks for watching!
@Jason Patrick into the kydex sheath it only goes in one way because of the design of the blade. If thats what you meant?
The original sheath is ambidextrous
@Jason Patrick yea that other guy was tripping the sheath is ambidextrous. it's a good buy especially for the price. it's my favorite fixed blade now, my KABAR dogs head is a little too big, my buck 119 is literally only good for skinning game, but this one is just right as an all around knife
I love the knife, but I hate the sheath. One of the first things I did was mod the sheath by removing all that stupid ballistic nylon. I use 550 cord to secure it to my belt or LBE. I'm quite sure there's a better fix, but that's what's been working for me so far.
Nice rig but why did you choose it over the StrongArm?
The only reason so bc that’s what was available when I was shopping.
I have had this knife for about 6 months. I don't believe the knife is truly yours until it marks you. Good news the prodigy is officially mine lol.
lol. That’s one standard

Thanks!!
Just bought one today at Walmart on clearance for $21. No serrations
Same
On sale now at blade HQ $34.99 as of August 2023.
What a deal!!!
I use it since 2016, recently the rubber handle started decomposition. It got sticky and soft, I had to remove the rubber and replace it with paracord wrap. Unfortunately the knife handling is not that good as was with the new rubber.
That’s a great thing to point out. Rubber is always going to degrade over time.
Doesn't it have lifetime warranty?
I only find one in a serrated edge can’t find just the regular edge
Walmart used to have the straight edge
Walmart has those ⚔️🦅⚔️
They the only ones that got the plain edge Prodigy by Gerber unfortunately and I got two of them for SHTF bags ,hope I never need them though 🙂⚔️🙂
That’s where I got mine, and that was why! Everyone else sells the partly serrated blade and I don’t want that for a survival knife. Thanks for watching!
That's were I got mine for Christmas...i got the strongarm to
Great review! Did Gerber sponsor it?
Thanks! Nope, I bought the knife with my own money.
@Douglas Pantera respectable
I have 2 of them. I keep one in my Get home bag my other I abuse the crap out of it.
Love my prodigy. Is this recently bought? I thought they where discontinued, so if you bought it recently, that's really good luck Wally world still had any.
Love mine.
Any who like the prodigy, but wants the cutting ability of a Mora Garberg - check out the Terava Jaakaripuuko. It's like the prodigy and the Garberg had a baby.
I have both. Prodigy stays on my belt everyday for the past 4 years. Jaakaripuuko stays in my outdoor bag until I go outdoors, then I have both on my belt.
Found it in Wal-Mart in a small town in Florida.Bought 2. But yes they are discontinued.
Yep, I got mine in a Texas Walmart last year
They weren't discontinued unless Walmart had several YEARS worth of a supply of them. I saw something on CZcams two or three years ago about the Walmart version being discontinued. I went out then and bought one because I had really been eyeing them and didn't want to miss out - I have less than no use for serrations unless they are on a bread knife or a steak knife. They have no place on a belt knife (IMO, obviously). So I was relieved to get one but then several of my local Walmart locations have had them all along. Apparently they were never discontinued. However, I believe that they may be getting discontinued NOW. I say that because the Walmart locations in my area have them on clearance. This sometimes just means a packaging change but I doubt that is the case, here. As further evidence that they weren't discontinued (until, possibly, now) I bought one EARLIER THIS WEEK (in a blister pack) for $55 on clearance. Then payday came and I bought another YESTERDAY at a different Walmart (in a box, not blister pack) for $46. I would have bought two but that was the last one they had. Then TODAY I went to a third Walmart location and bought one more (in a box, not a blister pack) - for $55. It is really weird that the clearance price is different at different locations - especially since the one with the $46 price tag is located in a town that is between the towns the other two are in. $55 isn't that great a bargain being that the regular price was only $62 - except I guess it could be argued that $62 for such a great knife is a bargain in today's world and it would be hard to disagree. Anyway, I mostly wanted to get a few extra in case they really are being discontinued, now. I am usually a fan of the 10xx series of high carbon steel but this is a good, strong knife and, being stainless, might work better to just put in a pack and leave until I need it or to stash somewhere that a high carbon blade might have rust issues.

Just bought (12/1/23) in Buffalo N.Y. Walmart for $50 (regular. price)
@@adamjames1375 Interesting. Even in my area, though, different Walmart locations sometimes stock different things because their stock comes from different warehouses. The Prodigy is definitely gone from all the locations around me but maybe, being such a big corporation, they 'discontinue' items in one area but not others. Who knows? I'm glad you got to pick one up, though. I really like mine and find it on my belt pretty often when I leave the house and am not going to work I carry the one I bought a few years back and keep the others 'in reserve'.
Ambidextrous for lefties?
Yes the sheath receives the knife either direction
Never batton on a hard surface it will damage your edge
Maybe i missed it, but is it full tang
According to Gerber website it is a full tang and I believe it is because the striking pommel is very solid.
@@raiderdawgranch thank you for the reply
Stromgarm👍💪 👋🇨🇵🇨🇵
Very good knife. Dumb sheath.
I modified my sheath to make it more useful. Gerber Prodigy Knife Mods

You lost me at "All Gerbers are made in the USA."
Fair. I meant the fixed blade series.
Garbage knife enough said
Military Jump knives need dual retention to be Jump Approved by the Paratroopers 🪖⚖️🪖
I've heard people say that but I can't recall it ever coming up, I graduated ft Benning in 2009.
Thanks for the knowledge!
