@Craig Salt Absolutely so!!! She once said she wanted to get rid of her Scottish upbringing, blaming it all on the 'Protestant Unionist narrow-minded mentality'... she also stated she was starting to support Celtic just because this would hurt her mum, it was 'rebellion'........ this to me means she hated Scotland, period.
she recorded modern girl...it went down in the chart...then she had a hit with 9-5...then released modern girl again...it was then a hit...so it wasnt the record...it was the look...pity society has to think that way
Problem is the charts were not very reliably compiled at this time. It wasn't until January 1983 when Gallup took over with a more computerised system that it was improved.
Ever noticed how she played on feminism/anti-feminism? I mean, it was in both cases a pun on such strict visions of life, a way to make fun of it all and possibly attract some controversy and have us all talk about her. First she sang about being such a 'Modern Girl' she didn't need to build her world round any single man, then she told us how she spent her day waiting for her man to come back from his '9 to 5' daily work and thus please him after all that deal of strain... such a perfect choice of lyrics to start up with, don't you think? Anyway, I was 1) 8 years old, so I didn't actually think about such aspects of life, I just heard the songs and liked them, 2) I'm Scottish, so I felt quite proud of Sheena back then, our local hero... until she started using an American accent all the time and turned her back on us... :-(
This is what is killing the record industry. And the idiotic thing is that they keep on doing it this way. Screw'em! Independent musicians on youtube and other social media is the future.
Sheena changed her accent to sound more American be accepted in the American mainstream for TV roles. She got a star role in the American TV series Miami Vice once she changed her accent and She was carefully stage managed, but Sheena ultimately sold out culturally.
this is actually a clip from 'The Big Time', (first tx on 2 July 1980) featuring the 19-year old Glaswegian brunette. Trouble is, all that fame went to her head because, when she returned to her native Scotland ten years later, she made the biggest fucking mistake by saying in an American accent, "It's great to be back home again". The crowd didn't fucking like that at all; in fact, she had bottles of piss thrown at her. Since that incident, she vowed never to return to Scotland again.
Totally Agreed. Sheena changed her accent to be accepted in the American mainstream for TV roles. She got a star role in the American TV series Miami Vice once she changed her accent and She was carefully stage managed, but Sheena ultimately sold out culturally.
MODERN GIRL is a great track. Loved it the very first time I heard it.
First time I heard 9 to 5 I was hooked on that song and her as well
I love Sheena's accent..
Gorgeous Face 💞
She was so pretty then. Her accent is faint now. I’m still a fan. Her voice has moved me many times.
20 year olds tend to be pretty.
I won a karaoke compition singing 9 to 5.
Hearing Sheena Easton with an scottish accent!
Miss Easton's accent is so sweet and lovely!
Aye, she used to have one. Then she turned her back on us... :-(
