I don't think I have ever seen anyone else exert as much force on their groundstrokes as Thiem. Sure DelPo and the likes had bigger forehands but Thiem is up there as well along with Delpo and Fed, and Gonzalez
Poor Schwartzman had to salute the empty stadium after this incredible victory. I feel for Thiem. This is the player who beat Nadal on clay several times, who also beat Djokovic and Federer on hard court multiple times. Then he had this very rare hand injury that destroyed his career. I am sure he would win more Grand slams like Roland Garros, Australian Open and US Open…
@@kieran1990able not really he defeated the time waster there so well even better than Thiem or Fog, problem is RG is such a slow clay court compared to Monter Carlo, Rome and Madrid. Man I miss peak Thiem. What a shame that he never won a big title on clay! The Schwartzman match was crazy. Covid tennis was such a drag and having no crowd to react feels almost dystopian. Glad that chapter is behind us!
he didnt forget ... he's a salty djokovic hater thats all ... always remember : the wimps can never handle the truth and thats why they never become real men.
I remember the fognini game, I was watching it with a couple friends and we were laughing about a 6-0 fognini. When he lost that game from 40-0 we were all serious because knowing the player he could've still manage to lose it
lil kid screaming at the end like a lil boy and nobody is there :( but i like him - it's a shame that his game is no longer what it used to be #diegofanboy
Yes, he's completely done. The serious wrist injury in 2021 basically ended his career. His comeback attempt has been a complete failure, he's just not the same player anymore. He's lost his main weapon, his forehand, which used to be one the the best forehands on tour before the wrist damage, and now it's just a mediocre shot. And he's been only getting worse and worse in the last months (playing challengers and qualifications, losing to guys like Michalski 3:6 4:6 or to Neumayer 2:6 1:6).
Rafa not shaking hands to El Peque was lame. Glad Nadal shamefully took the Military grade jab in the Army with Moya both have had needles through their bodies now like many players dont call for medical time out anymore they are scared of SIDS and just quit like never before. The extra nano graphene was more dangerous than El Peques handshake he avoided.
@@mattjagar6324 if bros on steroids then so fucsovic's and verdasco, and maybe alcaraz, but they arent. They put time in the gym unlike u and have good genetics. Nadal is nowhere near his old level either. Time waits for no one. People were thinking that what the big 3 were doing was the new norm, players being at the top till their late 30s, age is just a number, 35 is the new 25 and all that nonsense, but that's definitely not normal. Most players have always been shadows of their former selves in their 30s. This is still true today. The average age of the current top 20 is 26 years. these players that are beating Nadal on other clay tournaments, cant beat him when it comes to french open. b.coz there nadal gets into his beast mode. only novak has beaten him twice in french open.
Man Thiem could have had a great career if he had learned to sustain his level and improve some key aspects of his game, I wish he comes out of injuries and plays like 2017 for the season and coming years that are left within him
I don't think he has years left. Months look more realistic. He knows and says he's not the player he used to be, the power is gone, the wrist is bad again and he cannot train as hard anymore, he's regularly given a severe beating at challengers and in qualifications, cannot even play main draws, his results and game get worse and worse, his ranking doesn't improve, and he said 2024 is his last chance to improve his ranking, otherwise he'll consider retiring. An improvement looks out of the question now.
Sad to watch Thiem nowadays. His power was INSANE
I don't think I have ever seen anyone else exert as much force on their groundstrokes as Thiem. Sure DelPo and the likes had bigger forehands but Thiem is up there as well along with Delpo and Fed, and Gonzalez

Schwartzman was one of the best clay court receivers of all time, shame he never managed to break through despite his talent.
his height was his biggest disadvantage

@altruismfirst6489 he was good enough to beat top players once or twice but not quite enough to win masters or slams. That's what I meant
Thiem and Schwartzman wiped them off the field at Roland Garros just 2 weeks after their defeat :D
Oh yes. I miss 2017-2020 Thiem. Next to him, Tsitsipas, Zverev, Auger etc looked like incompetent juniors.

The fact that Fabio won Monte Carlo wasn't so surprising ,what was though was how he won it and the scorelines that came with it
And he was struggling with an injury 😂
Sad for Thiem and Diego whose potent play has disintegrated completely. Diego really deserved more screaming fans during his best year
Thiem looks so solid here... what happened to him. Did he just lose his shot making abilities or did he lose power? I don't really watch him anymore

Fognini and Verdasco were really good against Nadal
It would have been nice to specify the year
Thankfully got revenge on all three of these later on in the year
Vintage Thiem was just too much. Wawrinka and Roger backhand were delicious but Thiem had the power. Backhand parallel winner was a cannon by Thiem
