I've got a spun bearing on a first gen vortec 350. Having a problem finding another 350 close to me. Thought about doing the whole LS swap, but then thinking maybe it's fixable, for less cost than the adapter parts for the LS swap.

20 years ago engines where 300-500 all day from the junkyard with, today, yes you are better off rebuilding.
and today, the tools you need are all on amazon or you can borrow them from most parts stores for free...
I have a video on how to do it at home, czcams.com/video/PmnKseKSRF4/video.html
its going to be the same except your timing chain, the engine in the video is basically a reverse firing order chevy small block...
they make oversized od and id bearings so if you did any damage its easy, shop should only charge like 100$ to line bore it, if needed. everything else you can do yourself.
Im a fan of simple, im the computer im in charge of my systems, even the choke, yet
The advantage of the ls is really just how the computer can retard the timing after it advances to make more power... and there was a trick for that back in the day...
nothing is new. we had everything except vvt since the 30's and it was perfected in the 60's.... Look its all neat stuff as long as its under warranty, then its just more stuff to break. People like the ls because you can go to the parts store and they have aftermarket parts in stock like they used to for the sb chevy and no other cars lol, and people used to swap small block gm into fords even.... all that said, at the end of the day, i see it as you can buy exactly what you want and over pay. or you can get the best deal on what ever falls in your lap and will get the job done. unless its numbers matching then leave it stock.

Yeah no I traded one of my motorcycles for this truck a few years ago. Had a random misfire, and couldn't seem to find the issue. Changed the distributor and had a knarly sound in the block since. I had a feeling it was really bad. Had 2 shops tow my truck there to their shops, ended up paying to tow it back home both times. They tried to get me to pay 7200 to replace the engine. If I own a paper weight, I'd rather it just sit in my yard till I can figure it out. It's an OBS, and it seems they tried to get me to give it to them since it looks really good. It just wasn't happening for me. So, now I'm about to pull the motor, and see what I can do. I need it to make money, hauling tools on my bike is getting old. Can't haul material on them. This is cutting my income to barely paying the bills. But I refuse to give my truck away. Who knows what kind of abuse it went through before I got it. Perks of buying a used anything.

its their brand parts that are junk, but what sucked was customer service, they refused to even acknowledge fault and stuck it to me.
