I explain why I believe JayxHalf is a bad shipping and has no right to exist. If you ship JayxHalf, get out while you still can.
Stick around till the end for my thoughts on how to fix this ship! Personally, I think the way to fix it is just to retcon it, but if we're going to have a Jay ship, may as well fix it ourselves!

I always imagined Jayfeather as an asexual, I don't think he needs an official mate/love interest. I did think that Half Moon's crush on him was sorta cute though (before they took it too seriously I mean) because I'm a succer for unrequited love plots, but once it became fully both sided I kinda lost interest. Although it maybe was a small callback on how Jayfeather didn't want a life of a medicine cat in the first place, but I think it could've been done better.
It's definitely not the worst couple though, but I feel like the love many people have for it is more due to fact that Jayfeather is so loved and they want him to have a love-interest, even to the point that they don't even care who it is or how well it's done as long as it excists.
Every medicine cat ever shouldn't have a mate. THEY DON'T HAVE A CHOICE.

I agree. Personally, I think it makes more sense for him to be asexual, and-or aromantic. Granted, I havent read much of the Power of Three (let alone Warriors books in general), but from I have read, I think that makes the most sense for his character. Besides, its also refreshing in a way, I mean, if every cat had a mate, it'd get boring after a while, dont cha think?

Idk, I always thought it would have been more interesting if Dovewing had been the one with the connection to the Ancients, while Jayfeather was connected to StarClan, Lionblaze to the living, Hollyleaf to the unrested neutral souls (like how she can see Fallen Leaves), and Ivypool to the vengeful Dark Forest cats
Having a mate is just so OOC for Jay. I mean, written well, a relationship could be interesting for Jayfeather and could develop his character, but that would be difficult: a lot of effort for very little reward. In short, just keep him single.

Eh, the only one I could even remotely by into is Briarlight but that's it. Even then, I'm OK with him being single and satisfied.
I ship them because of how sad it was, thinking that Half Moon had to wait countless of moons, years and years just to see her loved one again, but not able to even touch him and the heartbreaking feeling of wanting to be with him once again, properly this time but at the same time wanting him to live a full and happy life. She wants to be with him but she can't wish for his death and that is the only thing keeping them apart; him being alive.
But damn do you make good points! I never really thought about it since pretty much all of the Warriors romances are basically "We looked at each other and fell in love!" so..... I never expect any depth from the romance part of Warriors.. :D
But you made me re-think this ship... And your version of it is way better!

the hell is happening I think it's very realistic. For a lot of people, you can't help your heart, even if your brain knows it's wrong. This is a cut-off point though, such as abusive and destructive relationships (as seen in Thistleclaw and Spottedleaf and Yellowfang and Raggedstar), but I don't fault Spottedleaf and Cinderpelt for loving a cat - especially since they did not let it hinder their living duties. I don't even fault Leafpool for her fling with Crowfeather, however wrong it was. It shows an important flaw in her character, which is her selfishness, which is in constant struggle with her loyalty. Leafstar and Spottedleaf also struggle with these traits, though I find that Leafpool is the 'what if their resolves weren't as strong' scenario.
Lokisaurus i know, but every time we see a new medicine cat, we just know they’ll love someone. it just gets irritating now.

I actually never liked the ship of HalfMoon and JayFeather.. it just.. didn't seem right.

My only problem is, people start raging about Jay X Half and how it was like "I saw you and I loved you!", yet here we have Clear Sky X Storm in DOC, and it was L-I-T-E-R-A-L-L-Y them staring at each other while Gray Wing watched on awkwardly. Then, 5 minutes later, there's Storm rubbing noses with Clear Sky. I hate Storm, and I might be going off topic by saying that, but Storm did a Half Moon and everyone shipped them. Honestly, someone please tell me you see what I mean.
I think the main difference there is that Sky X Storm was more of a twisted version of love at first sight, more of a grim re-telling of the trope as opposed to it being played straight, like Jay X Half. And that is a factor to consider when talking about ships. Some people like to mull over tragedies and what could have been even more so than the actual romance. As much as people scoff and moan at the idea of love at first sight being used in stories nowadays, it exists for a reason. It can happen in real life, and Sky X Storm is a prime example of the worst possible scenario if the couple moves too fast and doesn't take the time to get to know each other. By the time Clear Sky's ugly side started showing through, Storm was already pregnant. And instead of trying to stick it out or work through their problems, Storm abandoned ship and became a loner, denying her kits the safety of living in a group. Clear Sky was too proud and stuck up to try and convince her to stay, if not for her sake, then for their kits. And we all saw how things ended from there.
I myself never shipped Sky X Storm, as I knew from page 1 that Clear Sky was going to be a terrible, terrible cat, and thought that Storm was a fool to act on her feelings without thinking things through. I also never met anyone who shipped it either, probably because most people that were tempted to ship it immediately changed their minds when it all went sour in the same book. But I never assumed that there were no shippers at all. Every couple has a few shippers on deck. But I think, 'everyone' is kind of exaggerating.

I agree. I hated storm until she became a spooky ghost cat. and for some reason her personality CHANGED A LOT when she became a spooky ghost cat.
I like Jayfeather. He started as a well made character. Hollyleaf has always been my favorite of the three, because all she wanted to do was help the clan. The only problem with her is that she ran from her problems. I feel Lionblaze is way too one-sided and flat. He was my least favorite until Jayfeather became a horrible, angsty character.
Jayfeather is literally my favorite character between the three. And my least favorite was always Hollyleaf. When I was reading the books, Jayfeather was one of the most interesting to read. Even though Lionblaze isn’t the best he still beats Hollyleaf. Hollyleaf was (in my opinion) the most boring to read. She’s just ranting about the warrior code or complaining about the three. Plus, Jayfeather was grumpy for a reason. Squirrelflight lied to him. Leafpool was his real mother. The father was Crowfeather. He was forced to be a medicine cat. His sister died. But I hate the half moon x Jayfeather ship.

I love your suggested changes! Stories are much more powerful when the characters actually make the decisions and not have them forced upon them. Maybe this could have been if the books weren't so rushed to be published (is it 3 or 2 a year?). The authors don't get enough time to think out what they are doing sometimes.
Too bad 2nd editions can't be changed so dramatically. Then we could get great edits in some of the books.

Why I like that ship :
1.) Jayfeather wasn't being rude at all. He actually felt something, and it broke his heart when he told her about being the first Teller of Pointed Stones. (Stoneteller)
2.) Half Moon loved Jayfeather as well, and it wasn't one sided.
3.) Jayfeather almost REFUSED to go back to his time period just so he could stay with Half Moon.
4.) Jayfeather also almost refused to tell her about being the first Stoneteller.
5.) When Jayfeather took Half Moon to tell her about being the first Stoneteller, she thought he was going to ask her to be mates. She didn't (refused to) believe him until he explained it.
Thank you for listening to my complaints. I hope you read over this and consider it instead of just saying, "Well, I have my opinion, they can shut up. I already made a video and it's not like they can delete it."

Yes but it was love at LITERALLY first sight.Ya don't just look at someone then decide 'wow,she's hot,I'll be her mate!'. I like the little cute bits,but it didn't work because of how they fell in love.I liked half moon's little crush on him at first,but not when it became a full blown relationship.
Even after the last time he saw her, t was said he missed being able to see her and talk with her. And even if it was “Love at first sight” they still spent time together and were able to build on it. But also jay’s wing was already a cat before him so there could’ve been a relationship there before him but he was able to feel something for half moon back. I actually liked the fact it showed a different color on jay, giving a new angle on how he isn’t the “always grouchy” character many pursue him to be

I think that Moth Flight is a reincarnation of Half Moon. The purpose of this reincarnation was to show Half Moon what her life would've been like if she actually had had kits -- her time split between her family and the Tribe. Just a bit of head canon, but who knows?

The only Jay ship I really like is Jay x Briar. Mostly because they have such a strong relationship. There's definitely a form of love there, even if that love is strictly platonic. If I had to pinpoint what Jayfeather would be, I'd say he'd be demi. He has such a close relationship with Briarlight he'd be able to love her.

I always thought the relationship between the two was pure and sad, because I know the feeling of falling for someone who you can no longer be with. And my personal opinion about him traveling back in time was so he could learn about his past self and be able to relive it, it taught him important lessons and he learnt from it. Just imagine if you were him, wouldn’t it comfort you to know your loved one is watching over you? And wouldn’t you want to get to re live the important times you had with that loved one in the past?
Obviously, Jay x Stick is SO much better!
Here's why the cats you listed mostly don't work:
Willowshine - Medicine cat of RiverClan (Forbidden interclan/medicine cat romance, on BOTH ends).
Cinderheart - Uh, hello! She's mates with Lionblaze.
Poppyfrost - Again, mates with Berrynose, hello!
Brightspirit - Jayfeather never knew her when she was alive, and she was in SkyClan not ThunderClan.
Fallen Leaves: Long dead! An ancient! And same thing goes with Half Moon.
Heathertail - She's in WindClan, not ThunderClan.
Flametail - ShadowClan cat, not ThunderClan cat, and is currently dead.
Kestrelflight - WindClan medicine cat, same as Willowshine.
Brightheart - She's mates with CLOUDTAIL!
Berrynose - Mates with Poppyfrost.
Breezepelt - WindClan, half bros. No, no, no, NO!
The only one that may work is Brairlight, and if Jayfeather wasn't a medicine cat, I think it'd be a perfect pair.
And before you say Jayfeather and Stick, that 'ship' is stupid. A cat with an inanimate object? Come on! You should be better than that.
No offense, but I think you may be confused. I did not list those ships as better alternatives to JayxHalf, I listed them to give viewers an idea of how popular Jayfeather was as a subject in shipping culture. I personally never shipped any of them, except JayxBriar. And its important to consider that many of these ships are old. JayxCinder and JayxPoppy began before they chose Lionblaze and Berrynose, respectively, and JayxBreeze also started before the plot twist that they were half-brothers was revealed. As I said in the video, I don't have anything against people who shipped it before Sunrise, but if they still shipped it afterward, and continued to ship it after Breeze tries to kill him in the next book....I ain't gonna lie, I'd give those people a weird look.
Another important thing to consider when talking about ships is that shipping culture doesn't follow any sort of logic. At all. It doesn't matter if the two characters are from different Clans and are both happily married, people will still enthusiastically ship it if they so much as stare at each other a second too long. Also, is it really fair to scrutinize someone's ship if its forbidden? Over half of the official romances of the series are forbidden, so I don't really see why we should judge people for shipping forbidden stuff.
One last thing: Fallen Leaves is a guy.
I was actually referring to everyone who shipped those pairs. I'm still new to the warrior cats fandom, and didn't know Cinderheart and Berrynose didn't have mates at the time people started shipping Jayfeather with them. And, I only ship forbidden romance if it's already canon (unless it's a weird timetravel romance like with the couple of the video). None of the cats that were single apart from Brairlight were from another clan, dead, taken, related to Jayfeather or an inanimate object.
Oh, I forgot about Fallen Leaves being a tom. My bad.

I like the idea of Jayfeather being asexual/aromantic. I can't easily see him with a partner, and while it's possible to do it right, it's more trouble than it's worth if you ask me. You could end up completely butchering his character. This is a perfect example. Trying to force a random love intrest on a character like Jayfeather just isn't going to end well. I've seen a couple people say they believe he's ace/aro, and I completely agree. It works with his character and makes sense. Like I said, I do think it's possible to give him a good love story, but it can also go really badly. As a matter of fact, I'm kind of grateful that, however bad it was, his 'romance' was short and forgettable, and the Erins likely won't want to mess it up further by giving him someone new, so it's pretty easy to just pretend it never happened. If I ship Jayfeather with anyone it would be either Kestrelflight or Fuzzball, but those are just little ships I think are cute. Overall, if we're looking at Jayfeather himself, he should never have had a love intrest. I feel like he is a breath of fresh air, an actual med cat with no mate or kits. It fits better for his role in thd Clan anyway. Overall, Jay is best on his own and no one can convince me otherwise.

The shippers kind of pressured them into making a quick thing and not (not saying they didn’t try) trying their best and taking their time because shippers were pressuring them. This is my opinion on the ship:
Ok so the ship Half Moon x Jayfeather is a bit weird. I know Jayfeather used to be Jay's Wing but that was in the past life so he isnt completely Jay's Wing now. I hate that in the book where Jayfeather time traveled, Half Moon acted a bit clingy and not the personality she was shown in dawn of the clans as a pretty wise cat well ik she was old in the dawn of the clans but it just sounded a bit weird. Isnt it bit weird to be shipped with someone who is dead in the future but like dead like 100 years ago. Its like if you time travel into the tudor times and then fall in love with someone there. Also the Erins only let 4 cats Recoronate or however you spell it (English isnt my first language), they were Cinderheart (Cinderpelt), Dovewing (Dove's Wing), Lionblaze (Lion's Rawr) and Jayfeather (Jay's Wing) but why not let other ancient cats to recoronate like Gray Wing, Turtle Tail, Moon Shadow, Bright Stream and many others that died too soon. But we dont even know what happend to Jay's Wing after he left Half Moon Like. Ok you can hate on me but im not hating on you JayxHalf shippers, Ok Jay's Wing x Half Moon may be okay but not Jayfeather x Half Moon!!! Like bruh the age difference is like what also dont even let me start on Fallen Leaves x Hollyleaf and yes this took me 10 minutes to write but anyways let me carry on. Okay if you look at the 2 ships then Pinestar x Leopardfoot compared to their age difference then you will probably choose Pinestar x Leopardfoot even though Pinestar is older than both of her parents. Well, I shipped Jayfeather X Half Moon as it had been so long since I had read the books and had forgotten everything about the ship other than my memory telling me they were perfect for each other and would be non-toxic, but due to their responsibilities and different paths, couldn’t be together. That’s all I ‘remembered’, and I had come to the conclusion that since cats fade when they’re forgotten by living cats and since no one else but Jayfeather remembers Half Moon (idek if that’s true or not anymore-), once Jayfeather would die, then Half Moon would fade
Ig I don’t ship the canon ship, but I still like my now formed AU ship, where:
Jayfeather and Half Moon were basically just soul mates and perfect for each other, but had their own responsibilities and duties to fullfill that had lead to them not being able to be together. And then with Half Moon having died and gone to the Tribe of Endless Hunting, she would’ve thought she’d find Jay’s Wing there too (as I assumed him leaving made Half Moon believe he had just died-did he die?) and be searching for him in the Tribe of Endless Hunting, no one knowing where he had gone. Then Half Moon would’ve discovered Jayfeather when he came to the mountains after having lost hope of ever finding Jay’s Wing, recognize him after a while, and after a long time begin to rekindle her feelings for him after meeting him in dream(s). Jayfeather remembers her but he is tied to his medicine cat duties, and figures that once he makes it to StarClan after all those years they could finally be together…only for once Jayfeather dies of old age, him having been the last cat alive to remember Half Moon, caused Half Moon to fade. But they get one last moment together as Half Moon fades, and Jayfeather is left in StarClan without Half Moon

I'm pretty sure the reason why Jay went back to the Ancients in Sign of The Moon is bc the ancients were planning to leave the mountains and if they did their would be no Clans so he came back so he could get Half Moon to become their Stoneteller so they would stay I guess. I honestly don't understand why this ship exists. Half Moon loved Jays Wing not Jayfeather. Even though their technically the same cats their personalities and beliefs were different and heck, Jayfeather didn't even really know he was a reincarnation so yeah.

I also shipped (still ship?) Hollyleaf x Cinderheart, and Lionblaze x Berrynose. I feel like the personalities of all of these cats could have easily meshed well together in a romance. Holly and Cinder were best friends. Berry annoyed tf outta Lion but it could have been built upon how Lion slowly gained feelings for him.
I digress. (I also like the idea of Thornclaw having had/still having feelings for Sootfur quq It... kinda annoys me they put him with Blossomfall, but I really do like the idea of ThornxSoot ^^)
From what I also remember, Rosepetal was show to likely be pining after Foxleap. (Apparently one of the Erins said they would be good mates.) but if you look back in the books it kinda seems like Foxleap was pining after Lionblaze since apprenticehood o_o"

Here's a few storytelling rules to follow:
Chekhov's Gun: If you mention/point something out, there must be a payoff. If there is a rifle hanging on a wall, at some point, it must come off.
Kill your Darlings: Just because you like something to be in the story, doesn't mean it's good for it. I learned this lesson when I wanted to make my characters animals. I realized after several drafts of stories that my characters being animals served very little purpose. The relationship between several characters in Warriors also are examples of this rule not in effect.
Show, don't Tell: The most commonly known, yet often ignored, rule of storytelling. Display what you want the reader to think instead of just blatantly telling them. Compare these texts (This is from Tim and Mobey, but not entirely verbatim)--
"Tim and I went outside. It is cold and rainy."
"We were greeted by a blast of icy wind as Mobey dragged me out the door. My thin raincoat provided little protection against the onslaught from the clouds above."

So tbh, I would love a Half moon super edition. Not because for more info, but so she could develope a character and maybe the ship would make more sense. Since she is also the first stoneteller and I would love to see that.

I think the main reason why I somewhat ship it is that it is really centered around time travel, which is a cool and unique concept in Warriors series and making a romance between a cat from the past, and a cat from the future seems to add some interesting theories about romance in the saga.

Because when Rock tells Jay that he has to leave he refuses to. He doesn’t want to but he knows he has to. He makes Half Moon stoneteller because:
A) The tribe needed to be formed
B) Jayfeather wanted a reason so he could leave and not hurt Half Moon. So they can’t be together.
Adding on to that when the final battle does eventually come the tribe of endless hunting comes to help. Jayfeather recognises the tribe and yells out her name. Half Moon races to him but then realises that she has to go and fight.
I understand what you’re saying but in my opinion Jay x Half is a strong ship and one of the main problems is with how Half Moon was written. With a few odd pages I think that both their relationship and half Moon was rushed. I feel like that we need a book from Half Moons point of view to explain their relationship more.
But I do also think that Half isn’t in love with Jays Wing not Jayfeather.
Thank god I'm not the only one! I DONT like the Jay x Half because it felt so empty and honestly felt like their was no meat to the story. It was just skin and bones, which made it incredibly boring to read in the long run. I had to really force myself to read it because they're was no chemistry or interesting details about the relationship, not to mention that it came out of no where.
Yep, I imagine Jayfeather more as a aro-ace. This book has been so much of character! And I remember how he said in one of the books, when Dovewing came to visit her sister: "Everything would be alright, if cats stoped falling for the wrong cats." (or something like that, I've read this in another language) THIS is his character! Not a romance!
I despise unnecessary filler romance with a burning passion so I completely agree with this
And plus, even though in the book Jayfeather is a tribe cat when he goes back in time, he is a medicine cat! And literally, the number one rule apart of the medicine cat code is that medicine cats can NOT have mates! And another reason why it doesn't make sense is because she is basically older than him due to her being an ANCIENT

Lemme explain why I like the ship:
Half Moon has a quirky personality. She also genuinely cares about Jayfeather. Jayfeather cares about her, too. He was willing to leave clan life just to be with her, but rock stopped him. Jayfeather was happy with Half Moon. He cares about her and made her the firsts stoneteller. The story is also extremely sad considering that they had to be separated. They could never became mates and had kits, yet they still loved each other anyway!
There is also an argument that Half Moon lived Jay's Wing rather than Jayfeather, but she never confessed that she wanted to have kits with Jay's Wing. She didn't admit it until she got to know Jayfeather. She thought that he was Jay's Wing. She didn't know that she was in love with Jayfeather, but she still loved him the same.
However, I must admit that you do have some really good points. I accept your opinion.
While I do like the ship, your version of the story is much better. There is one fake though: Lion's Roar was a kit when Jayfeather left the Ancients. Perhaps it could be Dove's Wing that was injured. Lionblaze can't be hurt in battle, remember? Dovewing can. And Dovewing is Lionblaze's apprentice. Seeing Dove's Wing hurts would remind him of the prophecy. Then he wouldn't just think about the prophecy. He'd think about his family and face the decision to leave.
I think that sign of the moon was important so the 5 series could form rightly. I mean, if we just knew how the clans formed i will still be curious about the tribe itself. I think that book was really necessary

I remember I heard of the JayXHalf ship before I read the books with Halfmoon, so when I DID read them, I was so confused and disappointed! The parts were all so short and uninteresting.
I ship Jayfeather and Half Moon because I see it as Jayfeather pretending to be Jay's Wing to make Half Moon happy because Jay's Wing died during The Tribes travel to the mountain
I guess I don’t like Jayfeather and Half Moon, since I didn’t really think about them together, but I’ve drawn fan art of Jay’s Wing and Half Moon. Is that the same shipping? Jayfeather is a reincarnation but I like to think they aren’t the same because I don’t like that. Is Jay’s Wing just a zombie without Jayfeather time traveling? That always creeped me out.
my theory is that it's in the category of "lovers of two worlds" where the couple are from different backgrounds, locations or in this case, time periods. Jayfeather knows he can't be with Halfmoon because it's obvious that she's from the past and he's from his own time. as if time travel isn't a can of worms in itself.
I kinda think halfmoon thought he was jay's wing. I mean he isnt. He's jayfeather, in jay's wing's body. But half moon never knew that. She may have thought he was someone else, which explains a lot.

I mostly liked it for the intrigue of the situation. I mean could you imagine falling in love with someone from the past? It was just interesting to me.
