Exactly. Our enslaved ancestors did all the damn work so we were more skilled than the lazy enslavers. Not to mention the fact that those that were captured were not deaf, dumb, and blind. They had specialized skills before being stolen and brought here.
We must take back our pride and stop allowing them to tell us how inferior THEY made us believe we were.

This movie was tough to watch. I was thinking? They.m wouldn’t make light or a mockery of slavery in this country.Sure enough-they did. I thought it was even more disturbing to see the white teacher explaining how good the childrens live were during this time period. I was like what??

Brown grew up on St. Simons Island , Georgia . Different state but probably similar to this SC coastal island .
James Brown is from a small town in SC, he later move to Augusta as a child to live with his aunt.
Am conflicted about this one. On one hand, am happy to see my people "thriving" just 3 generations removed from slavery. On the other hand, I feel very sad [and actually mad as hell] that this even had to happen in the first place. I understand this was the '40s but clearly, the commentators providing the voiceovers could've been a little bit more sensitive.
