    Good plays, but i think the biggest mistake was 1. trying for multiple 40% stuns on the shambler when you could've been targeting/debuffing the tentacles for dodge and prot and mark or stun, and 2. not noticing that each time a tentacle hits, it MEGA buffs itself for ACC, DMG, CRIT and PROT, making them super hard to kill and able to instantly oneshot your characters w/o chance of missing (antiquarians dodge buff is negated by the +10 acc each time they hit). Oh and 3. relying on a Flagellant without acc trinkets to hit a 40 dodge enemy is really risky, especially using exsanguinate to get off deaths door/low hp. Good party comp, riposte def wouldve helped, just played one or two of the heroes wrong

    yeah that is a major weakness of deathblow flag, not only is it a intrinsically risky playstyle with you always having about a 15% chance to die on deaths door, but being in that state stresses you out and 200 stress kills him.
    i lost a flag with martyrs seal in shambler fight in a almost identical way, the only real difference is my flag died first and stunned clapper claws so i ended up winning the fight.

    Awesome vid man! You can drop punish on both clappers in first two rounds, then focus shamb with rest of party in this situation. Clappers die in 1-2 rounds but you dont have to wrestle the prot buff bc dot is set. Stun clapper with occultist/ weakening curse on shamb for prot minus. You just cant let the clappers stack buffs under any circumstance.

    14 hours into the game, I encountered the curio that becomes the fight with the Shambler. It was intense, grueling. Every hit matters. I got lucky as I've landed a couple of crits that turned the tides, and just continuous death's door procs that did not become a deathblow.
    And then my Crusader died. I tried running away, but it failed. This cost the life of my Plague Doctor. I'm left with Dimas and the Vestal, Dimas got lucky again, and landed a killing blow to the shambler, AND I EXHALED, with my fist up in the air.
    At this point, I've fought the necromancer apprentice, and thought the tentacles would follow him BUT THEY DID NOT.
    Smacked both my heroes to death.

    Ignoring the clapper claws when they spawn seems like such a strange choice. They are the fight's gimmick after all and their damage gets insane. The lack of flat out damage dealers here is problematic, so I can kind of understand it. Hope that you can kill the shambler fast enough. But they are pretty easy to stun compared to the shambler. And interestingly they stay after his death, so you have to kill them anyway

    • @lagg1e
      @lagg1e Před rokem

      You have to find a balance though. The shambler attacks and summons 2 tentacles per turn. You have to include a plan that still attacks the shambler once per turn. With Antiquarian and Occultist you won't be killing one tentacle basically the whole fight. Flag could maybe bleed them with sorrows but it will take 2+ turns regardless.
      He had to ignore the tentacles.

      @LifetimeThiccness Před 4 lety +1

      Do yourself a favor and don't sacrifice a torch to an alter that says "sacrifice a torch if you crave the void" it never works out in your favor. I haven't even done it before. I just trusted that the game would punish me if I didn't listen and judging by these compalations (spelling sucks) I think I'm right.

    • @Amateur2CombaT
      @Amateur2CombaT Před 4 lety +5

      @@LifetimeThiccness Haha you did good , but actually shamblers are quite beatable in easy and medium missions once u know the game more and ofc feel like your team can handle it (stress + hp level, shuffle protection , stun. It s very appealing to kill a few shamblers early on in your campaigns since they can drop some of the most powerful items in the game like the ancestor candle and map.
      Riposte is excellent vs shamblers since they only do aoe attacks, stun is excellent to negate the clupperclaw's turns and stop their snowballing effects. My usual strategy is to shuffle my own party before activating the altar, then i try to stun 1 clupperclaw per round and direct all the remaining dmg on the shambler. Like most boss fights this one is a race so I try to only heal when it s really necessary otherwise i d just do stuns or dmg with my healer for the fight to end asap, vestal is great as usual with her stun and if the fight went smoothly you can even afford to recover a little bit at the end by once again stunning the clupperclaw.
      The biggest no no to a shambler fight in my opinion is shuffle protection , like if your Leper ends up in the 4th spot you are screwed. So you kinda need a party with chars like houndmasters that can attack anywhere or members that can moove their own positions like highwayman.
      Still always a scary fight , but the reward can change your campaign , getting ancestor map early one will make your life so much easier :p
      Peace

  • @XperimentorEES

    6:59 I think you should've kept up the dodge buffing with the antiquarian instead of using her guard to protect her, yes the flagelent had health to spare but with the houndmaster and occultist at critical health I'd think it's better to maintain a team buff, while the occultist heals and the houndmaster keeps attacking. While I like the flagelent for his bleed and clutch sustain, I absolutely avoid bringing him on any quest I expect to be stressful simply because he cannot become virtuous, as I've also lost a handful of characters due to his maniacal collateral damage. I always forget the dogtreat though lol.

      It's normal in any game that has random number generation as a core component with overemphasis placed on it. In these kinds of games RNG is such a factor that you can literally make every correct decision and do everything right and still have the worst possible outcome/lose everything. Darkest Dungeon and the XCom series are the two big ones in the modern sense but speaking old-school Dungeons And Dragons and Risk have always been known to cause people rage and depression because of the laws of probability.

I actually killed the veteran shambler on darkest with ~10 stress on everyone a few weeks back. All because I had 1. Hellion with pain-train 2. Occultist with eldritch dmg trinket and stab
    I found that unless you have really reliable dot or armor pierce, those small tentacles are 1# priority. My team wipe was literally because I had none of those and I let 1 tentacle get 100%prot

    My worst experience was in the Champion Warrens... *First* (!!!) room battle...
    Got very unlucky and ALL of my enemies went first despite my fastest chars' speed being much higher. Massive bleeds and blights applied + stun on my Vestal + very nasty AoE crit, that brought 3 of my heroes so low, that on their turns they had gone to around 10 HP due to DoTs... Next turn RNG god ignored my massive speed advantage ( once again ) and enemy has got another nasty AoE ability crit, finally bringing 3 of my characters to Death's Door... Next thing I remember is seeing all of my best ( and absolutely beloved ) heroes failing the Deathblow Resist to a DoT one by one accompanied by Wayne June's ( aka Ancestor, aka DD Narrator ) *"More dust. More ashes. More disappointment."* ringing in my ears in a mocking fashion... And my Reynauld standing there with full HP sweating profusely. There was nothing I could do and that's the thing that gets me the most. Not my foolish mistake had killed them, nor did a clumsy misclick. It was just terrible luck. Never had any problems with the Warrrens afterwards, but I still feel hesitant to embark on a Champion Warrens mission due to this pure RNG's cruel joke of a party wipe

    Antiquarian is, to me, the most subtle adventurer in Darkest Dungeon.
    At first sight, she looks utterly useless. She can be, of course.
    Dodge ability is significant, to be combined with specific adventurers, such as Man-at-arms or, simply, dodge equipment.
    Blight ability is to combined with specific adventurers, such as the Grave Robber (LUNGE).
    -ACC ability is to be combined with specific adventurers, such as Plague Doctor (who also is a Blight combo).
    Heal ability is meant to escape "DEATH DOOR".
    GUARD ability is to be combined with specific adventurers, such as high PROT ones (80% max). Also situational, to eventually escape from death blow.
    Back ability is only meant to be used when the Antiquarian is displaced, wich eventually annoys the course of the combat (Shambler often disorganizes your team).
    Melee damage ability ? Cannot see the point.
    Specific abilities to be chosen accordingly. Until Enemies decide by other means.
