  • Chant along with the great Dharani of the compassionate savior Bodhisattva, whose 1000-loving arms reach out with boundless love and compassion (video is hard-subbed for convenience for chant-along):
    NAMO RATNA TRAYĀYA / NAMA ĀRYA JÑĀNA SĀGARA VAIROCANA VYŪHA RĀJĀYA / TATHĀGATĀYA / ARHATE / SAMYAKSAṂ BUDDHĀYA / NAMAḤ SARVA TATHĀGATEVYAḤ / ARHATEVYAḤ SAMYAKSAM BUDDHEVYAḤ / NAMA ĀRYA AVALOKITEŚVARĀYA / BODHISATVĀYA / MAHĀSATVĀYA / MAHĀKĀRUṆIKĀYA / TADYATHĀ / OṂ DHARA DHARA / DHIRI DHIRI / DHURU DHURU / IṬṬI VAṬṬI / JVALE JVALE / PRAJVALE PRAJVALE / KUSUME / KUSUMA / DHARE / ILI MILI / CHITRE CHITE JVALAMAPANAYA / PARAMA SUDDHA SATTVA MAHAKARUNIKA SVAHA
    This mantra is often confusingly called "Great Compassion Mantra" although it is more properly called the Heart Dharani of Avalokiteśvara-ekadaśamukha . The Great Compassion Mantra generally refers to a longer Dharani from a different sutra.
    He is the most powerful aspect of Guanyin Avalokiteshvara Chenrezig, compassion with 1000 arms and 11 faces. In detailed visualizations he has 1000 eyes in each hand as well - eyes and hands that reach out with compassion to save sentient beings from suffering.
    For a features on Avalokiteshvara, the great Bodhisattva of Compassion, see the features link at the information icon (top right of the video).
    The benefits of reciting this mantra (from the Chinese translation of the Sutra) are:一、身常无病 Your body has no sickness and you will be healthy二、诸佛摄受 You will be blessed from all Buddhas三、财宝衣食受用无尽 You will possess wealth and never lack of food and clothes. You can subdue enemies without fear. You can cause compassion to arise in all sentient beings. You cannot be harmed by curses, poison, ghosts, or spirits. You cannot be harmed by weapons. You cannot be harmed by water. You cannot be harmed by fire. You won't die of an untimely accident.

    I am a great devotee of mother Tara for quite a long time now ...I practice meditation and chanting her mantras.
    I am curious to know that when we hear people say that mother Tara answer to our problems and help us find right path does she herself appears in dreams or in physical presence ?
    How do I know her signs and signals ??
    If anyone who has encountered or experience any signs please do enlighten me 🙏🙏

    • @BuddhaWeekly

      That's wonderful to hear. Mother Tara often answers my requests and prayers, especially those dedicated to the benefit of sentient beings. She is very responsive and loving. Many times I have counted on her for help, most recently for a quadruple bypass heart surgery. Shortly after the surgry when I was waking up (still had tubes in) I woke up to see Green Tara beside my bed. She gradually dissolved into a nurse who was caring for me - and I knew she was caring for me. The vision was very real to me. (I wrote about this on Buddha Weekly, shortly after I was discharged here: buddhaweekly.com/how-tara-buddha-saved-my-life-appearing-beside-my-hospital-bed/ ) For me, though, I have full confidence in Mother Tara, I didn't need to see her at my bedside (and I fully understand that could have been induced by sedatives and pain killers:-) It doesn't matter. The compassion of Bodhisattvas often manifests through the people around us (especially nurses, doctors and so on), as we all have Buddha Nature (Tathatagarbha). Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha.

The next project (after the Ksitigarbha mantra being published tomorrow) in the recording studio now is the Amitayus long Dharani (Amitabha's long-life practice) which is beautiful. That will go into video post production next:-) Thanks for the request!

    Thank you for this beautiful chanted mantra. I have heard this mantra in a different rhythmic chant, does it matter? I used to think the mantras each had a specific sound/music to it, but I guess not?

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Před 5 měsíci

      What's truly important is mindfulness and the pronunciation of the syllables (here it's in Sanskrit). Music is a "device" that helps the meditator, especially for long sessions (helping with recall but also mindfulness on the chant). Song and chant is actually a teaching method itself. Milarepa's teachings were "songs" and many Tibetan sages used songs. For formal practice, such as retreat, we tend not to use music, but for personal practice most people do, and it should resonate (be pleasant) as it's an offering at the same time. Dharani's are longer than most mantras, and typically are praises with some supplication. There's no rule (unless your teacher or lineage has a rule. For example, I've heard some teachers say "no melody on formal practice" while others, such as His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche encourages melody. So you can certainly ask your teacher if you have one or more.). Some temples have their own music for Dharanis which they chant daily through the decades until they become tradition. But, in the Sutra that transmitted the Dharani it is spoken, not chanted. Any chants you hear are typically from the lineage, the temple or a meditator and are helpful for long sessions, memorization and praising beautifully (making your Dharani a beautiful offering.) Hope that helps. In kindness BW 🙏🙏🙏

    Does this and da bei zhou (chinese version) require initiation/empowerment?

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Před 11 měsíci +3

      No both versions of the Dharani are from Sutra. Sutra Dharanis and mantras are transmitted directly by words of the Buddha to sacred Dharma Sutra text to you. If you come accross teachings and lung transmission (that is verbal transmission) that's beneficial, of course, since you also receive your teacher's blessing, but Sutra mantras and Dharanis never require transmission. In kindness, BW

    Namaste 🙏, can i recite this mantra without any empowerment prior? Without any permission from any lama or Rinpoche? Kindly guide me i want to chant this am i allowed to ? Please guide me thank you 🙏

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Před měsícem +1

      Yes, you can, this is a Sutra transmitted mantra, therefore beneficial (recommended) for everyone. The key difference on permissions is "Sutra transmitted" is already a transmission from the Buddha. No permission is ever needed for Sutra, in fact recitation of not only the Dharani but the Sutra is a heart practice of vast merit, benefiting sentient beings.
      Permission-based mantras are those that should be transmitted by a teacher with teachings -- in other words, to have value you need additional instruction on how to meditate, motivation, pronunciation, etc.
      However 95% of mantras don't require permission or empowerment, although it is beneficial to have it. The main "permission" requirement of most mantras is, as explained by Venerable Garchen Rinpoche is "Bodhichitta"
      Adivce from Guru Rinpoche for mantra chanting: "You must possess the key point of compassion free from enmity, like the sun. You must possess the key point of generosity free from prejudice, like a spring of drinking water.
      His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche strongly emphasizes these points at many of his mantra teachings. He said, "the main requirement for mantra chanting of any Enlightened Deity according to the teachings, is Bodhichitta intention." (The Intention to become Enlightened so that you can benefit all sentient beings.)
      We also have the Four Foundations and 9 tips for practicing Mantra in our recent video: czcams.com/video/I5Z3Jj0lacg/video.html
      Hope this helps. In kindness, BW🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
