  • After a 3-minute introduction (time indexes below), we chant the extraordinary King of Aspirational Prayers of Samantabadhra in original Sanskrit.
    CONTENTS
    0:00 Introduction Why is the King of Prayers, the King?
    00:45 A complete Buddhist practice "how to"
    01:14 The seven limbs of practice as remedies for seven poisons in Buddhism
    02:32 Visualization from the Gaôçavyüha chapter of the Avatamsaka Sutra
    03:42 Chanting of the King of Aspiration Prayers in Sanskrit (with hard sub Sanskrit for chanting and English for translation.)
    Why is the King of Prayers, the king? This prayer, recommended by many Mahayana teachers, is translated as “The Extraordinary Aspiration of the Practice of Samantabhadra” and is from the Gandavyuha Sutra. Samantabhadra, Universal Good Bodhisattva, offers us the entire path to becoming a Bodhisattva, for the benefit of all sentient beings! It’s literally, in modern terms, a complete “how-to.”

    To pass beyond duality, please stay here!
    For as many aeons as there are atoms in this world,
    Remain to bring happiness to all beings, and to benefit them.

    Ah Great Video! Samantabadhra was the Bodhisattva that got me Into Buddhism and still do i Love him. The King of Aspiration prayers was also the First Buddhist practice that really inspired a compassionate and devout mind in me, sadly i couldnt replicate that Feeling so often only one more time, But since then nothing.😢 Still Love your Videos! Maybe you can make a Video about the Four Heavenly Kings (as a Video Idea)?

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Před 9 měsíci +3

      Thank you! Four heavenly kings is a great idea. The Bodhisattva compassion feeling is still there, it's part of our Buddha Nature, our heroic Bodhisattva within. Each daily practice of this prayer or chant (in any language) helps us re-affirm our Bodhisattva aspiration, even if we don't feel it intensely, so that the feeling of compassion arises naturally. May all beings benefit. In kindness, BW.

    Na tradição Kagyu do tântra temos a Prece de Sete Ramos, é exatamente esse dharani , só que bem reduzida e em tibetano, e pode ser recitada na sua língua sem problemas, a intenção é mais importante e não o dialeto.

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Obrigado! Todas as sadhanas têm os sete membros da prática, o que é muito especial. Esta forma específica é uma prática do Sutra e é uma forma Dharani - como um mantra. Eu canto isso diariamente em inglês, tibetano e sânscrito. O sânscrito, porém, é alguém especial, que vale a pena praticar ocasionalmente. Em sânscrito, as sílabas assumem camadas adicionais de significado, e isso se torna (na verdade é) um Dharani do Sutra, com potência semelhante (pelo menos como foco) a um mantra.

    • @BuddhaWeekly
      @BuddhaWeekly  Před 9 měsíci +3

      Thanks for the comment. Yes, it's complete, but concise, in the sense that it contains the heart of the aspiration, the Bodhisattva aspiration and the 7 limbs and is used in many practices this way as complete. The longer versions (there are a few) have a more detailed version (sometimes called "The actual aspiration" with the "aspiration on attitude" and the "aspiration to be free from defilements" and more. This takes almost the form of a sutra teaching. For Sadhanas and practices, usually the concise introductory aspirations are considered a complete daily practice because it's the aspiration of the seven limbs, which is certainly complete. Including the entire aspiration in a "chanted" song version might be a little ambitious:-) Thanks again.

      Dear Dharma Friend, the chant here is a part of the overall King of Prayers, Samantabhadras Aspiration. We've only chanted the portion that many people practice as a daily practice, the seven limbs of practice. If you'd like the full prayer in Sanskrit, its available from FPMT: www.fpmtabc.org/education_sinterest_kop.php
      The Ten Great Vows aren't part of this particular praise here, and we will definitely be reciting this in future (not as a chant but as a Sutra). In kindness, BW 🙏🙏🙏🙏

      Oh, I see, sorry, the short answer is this is Samantabhadra Bodhisattva's aspiration to be a Bodhisattva (which we wish to emulate.) (It's not referring to primordial Buddha Samantabhadra except in the context of the entire field of merit. The longer answer, with more detail is:
      This is Samantabhadra's Bodhisattva Aspiration (Samantabhadra as a Bodhisattva), so it is the aspiration, called The King of Aspiration Prayers, The Aspiration for Excellent Conduct (i.e. the Bodhisattva path). Samantabhadra is the shining example of the Bodhisattva.
      It is the seven limbs of focus is on how to act and conduct ourselves as Bodhisattvas, especially with Bodhichitta intention. This section of the prayer is the basis of the 7 limbs of practice which we find in every other practice, but which is best stated in Samatabhadra's aspiration.
      It's dedicated to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas (verse 7 of the praise): "To infinite buddhas I dedicate..." Not only Samantabhadra, Vairochana and all the Buddhas, but all Enlightened beings. In the sixth verse, for example: "To all the Tathagatas..." ("thus is the Dharamadatu filled with Jinas (Conquerors)... verse 3)
      We can use his aspiration with any of our other practices, since every practice should have all seven limbs of practice, which includes prostrations, offerings, confession to all Tathagathas and Bodhisattvas.
      If we practice Avalokiteshvara Chenrezig or Tara we still have the 7 limbs (the aspirations of Samantabhadra, which are here in the seven sections of the prayer. This is why many Buddhists begin their practice with Refuge three times, then the seven limbs which is often used word for word from this prayer, then we do our main practice, and dedicate merit.
      That's my long way of saying, we dedicate the merit of our King of Prayers (7 limbs) in the context of our own Yidam and practice.
      Hope that helps. In kindness, BW 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
