This is a combination of feeling homesick and nostalgia for a life Iâve never known. Art in its purest form.
Beautifully said. đđđ
anemoia - n. nostalgia for a time youâve never known
Imagine stepping through the frame into a sepia-tinted haze, where you could sit on the side of the road and watch the locals passing by. Who lived and died before any of us arrived here, who sleep in some of the same houses we do, who look up at the same moon, who breathe the same air, feel the same blood in their veins-and live in a completely different world
@@jadew4677 that is very interesting! I have never heard of the Anemoia before, but that makes perfect sense. The video within the website nailed it.
Could not have said it better myself
Lovely comment :) such a strange feeling that is, and yet it makes perfect sense at the same time.
Paola, I am 73-according to my daughter, old. Maybe just an old soul. On these winter mornings, I put your lovely messages on to stream as I have my pot of jasmine tea and wait for the sun to rise. My dear, you do me only good. Thank you. Bless you. Sandy

People who say she is living the Beatrix potter life - that is right. You embody her spirit and goals: Beatrix potter was a conservationist and protector of one of the most beautiful regions of england, the lake district. She was a rich woman, and chose to spend her wealth buying swathes of countryside, protecting it from development for evermore, while living a simple farmhouse life herself. I am always grateful to her and others like her as i wander over the great protected Fells. This work is as hard as it is important đđ±

I recently moved to a rural area on an off-grid property. I made that decision after realizing during quarantine that my industry job and the luxuries in the city were not the end-all-be-all for my life. I am learning so much about myself and my environment. Itâs great to see that there are others out there who have already made the transition and are enjoying it!
Congrats on that! That's my goal in 5 years time. Want a build or buy a tiny home with plenty of acres. What a beautiful dream!
what do you do for a living? I'm interested in off-grid/homesteading too.
@@waltervega8730 I highly encourage it! Its an accessible dream too. I used to live in a very densely populated metropolitan area and the starting prices of homes there were very high. We never thought we could afford it. It took about 6 months of looking in small towns to finally find something we could comfortably sustain and if I could tell myself anything back 6 months ago it would be to not get discouraged. I wish you the best of luck!
@@LuisaH2022 I work remotely for a tutoring service and my fiancé and I work odd jobs here and there to get extra cash. Our bills are comparably not substantial as all our utilities are covered by the off-grid set up! Our ultimate goal however is to start a small market farm stand/business. :)
Many of today's professions are home friendly, making a move like yours very doable. I assume you're using your own means to make electricity, a process that is both fully sustainable and more reliable.
So congratulations. I think you are in for a very rewarding existence.
I also forgot to mention that it's so refreshing for you to speak on how this magical American Beatrix Potter lifestyle doesn't come for free. You still work and it took intention and conscious effort to make such a move, and I'm sure it has it's tiny downsides sometimes. I just wanted to thank you for not hiding the reality of your beautiful life!
Thank you! Yes itâs been a journey of accepting a bit of risk and working to make ends meet every month, especially my first year here. Iâve grown so much in the process that I really wanted to touch on that fact. Yes there are downsides, and sometimes I get so frustrated with them, but in the end I remember why I came. Between the outfits, cooking, home, and drawing skills and basically your whole aesthetic, I feel like in a movie you'd be a manic pixie dream girl in a plot where some city cold hearted business man gets in a plane crash and wakes up in the woods then finds your cottage. Thanks for the idea of what you did with the orange slices. I have some on hand that Iâm now going to try to make something similar â„ïž
I love how you speak about the environment. The connection humans have with nature really is a relationship; it can have it's ups and downs; but the more love and care we give to nature, the more love and care it will give to us, both physically and spiritually. It seems like that is the relationship you have with your environment - so that even if you don't live in that physical house forever, the lessons you learned and the peace you found there has lead it to being your spiritual home :)
Also, that raspberry and rose green tea looked so delicious I could almost smell it's sweet and earthy aroma through the screen! I'll have to try my best at making it myself, I think!
Thank you for your lovely comment! Yes there are definitely ups and downs, but I keep trying to learn and be better everyday, and itâs so healing and uplifting for me - yes, I absolutely feel like nature gives back to your spirit! How beautifully you worded that. I remember an indigenous woman saying once âif you love your garden, it will love you backâ

I feel like there's a message to be taken in the fact that you already traveled when you were young. For example, I spent 12 years traveling the world right out of highschool. When I came back I did the typical pattern of working overtime for years, building credit, saving money for a down payment when I realized that my soul calling wasn't to establish myself in society, but to live as a natural born person in a natural world. The message I take, and that other people should consider is that you sometimes need to go through your bucket list before you are truly ready to settle into your peace. You have to see for yourself that there's nothing in the civilized world that has more value than sentimental value. That being a consumer while playing a role is baseless. I think alot of psychological/spiritual work has to be accomplished beforehand to undue all of your programming. You could have easily lived your life without anyone knowing your story. But by sharing it, people who are meant for the same path find support and encouragement. The old cliche of uneducated, unwelcoming mountain folk doesn't hold anymore. I know of many people who have made the move and who are living off grid in a relatively comfortable, financially feesable manner.
True words. Just FYI, itâs undo, not undue.
Iâve lived in the mountains for over 20 years and find that the specialness of it all makes me calm and creative. Beautiful video!

Anyways I won't keep nitpicking, and I know what you mean. Compared to say, Toronto or Montreal, Kelowna kind of could feel like a small town, I imagine. I'm a bit south of you, btw. The whole region is mindblowing in so many ways, isn't it? Welcome to the Okanagan, and enjoy it!

@@WizardlyDanny Eh, as long as you got what I meant. I'm definitely still learning the region. Yeah, I moved from Toronto so to me Kelowna is small lol. I absolutely love it here. Such a wonderful place to live and the people are so welcoming and lovely! Thanks for the welcome :)
@@MeiKasai You're indeed welcome! You have so much to look forward to - the mild winters, explosion of bright flowers in the early springs here, and the summer abundance of fruit, wine, trails and so on. Btw I recommend the quiet paved backroad on the W side of the lake northwards thru Fintry, for country drives. đłđČđđČđł
It's hard to move out of our comfort zone but sometimes life has this way of throwing things at you that will push you out of your habits, rather you want it or not. For me, this pandemic was a blessing. This past 20 years I've been living in a big city, which quickly became one of the country's hot spot for the virus, so I packed everything and moved back in the semi-countryside to my hometown where my parents and childhood friends still live. Without the pandemic I doubt I would have ever made the move, and now that it's done I wonder why I haven't done it years ago. Everything is quieter here, and simpler. I can see my parents 3x a week rather than 3x a year. The seasons are harsh but living in sync with nature is so less stressful. All of this to say : to anyone reading this, if you're hesitating to make the big move to a simpler and closer-to-nature life, DO IT. It will always be a good idea!
I only found your channel this morning, it came up as a recommendation based on what I watch. I feel you are literally talking to me and giving me the advice and guidance I need for the next stage of my life in all areas. It's no coincidence I started watching you.. your videos are just so beautifully put together, heartwarming, uplifting and encouraging. I also have those cups with a matching teapot! đ thank you for all your content ...
This looks so lovely and relaxing, just a tip (if you're interested) pop a lid or cover your herbal tea when steeping, so you don't loose some of the nutrients in the steam. Great video really enjoyed it.
thank you so much for showing me that this way of life is possible - your channel is really lovely. It can be stressful as a student feeling forced to think towards a future of making money, being in the city, making connections, living in a big capitalist rush...etc. knowing that this is a real and achievable way of living is so refreshing and I thank you from the bottom of my heart that you show it in such a beautiful way. I am so glad that more and more people are valuing simple living and now I know that my dreams and aspirations are not unrealistic in such a fast-paced, modern age. love and appreciation x
You know something. Your videos are like watching poetry in motion pictures. The whole video is like poetry. That's how beautiful and meaningful it is.
Your videos are so beautiful! They have become a part of my morning routine. I watch them while I have my morning coffee. Love starting my day reflecting on living with beauty and intention.
I can relate to this so much. Moved a ton as a kid, and the Okanogan valley was one of the stops along the way. I was only there for about 6 months, but it was magical. This video had me tearing up at my memories of that place. I was in the 4th grade. I'm sure you make a lovely teacher.
The video is so beautiful. I also supported the Aava channel. Congratulations going forward. God bless you
The first step is always the hardest, true.
How serene. One of the best things I've seen on CZcams.
You have definitely been blessed. That is a gorgeous place. I am addicted to the outdoors. I used to be able to ride out deep into the forests at night and just sit and listen to the sounds of night's nature. Especially breath-taking when the moon is out...I would sit in the midst of some evergreen trees and soak in the sight of moon beams filtering through the canopy and alighting the cushy ground. Brings tears to my eyes.
I donât know , but when you were walking in the rain I started to cry. I felt very moved. Maybe it was because I felt envy I donât know. đđ„°
That kind of peacefulness is just... lacking, overall, in the world right now, isn't it?
I also had a revelation in my heart when the rain was shown on video - of how wonderful it is to just be outside and allow the rain to fall without umbrella or complaining about this inconvenience. Rainy days are beautiful!
@@arp5843 I remember when I was little my mom would let me go out and play in the rain. It's one of the best things I remember.
A lot of people cry watching her videos. Including me. I wonder what's going on there?
@@sarainventura Her videos are soothing. Perhaps it is a release of anxiety and a longing for nature.
Hello dear friend, thank you for sharing these glimpses of your beautiful life and your precious animals in such a

Aw thank you! Thatâs lovely to hear - yes heâs actually the first dog Iâve ever raised and heâs such a good friend, always keeping an eye out for me â€ïž best wishes to you
Just.WOW!!! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and sharing such splendor!!!
Wonderful place, wonderful person!
May everyone find that awareness for the peace and quiet in the simplicity of life in 2021!
Loooved seeing the snow falling, we don't get alot of that here in Australia. We don't get alot of that here in Australia especially in my state. But in saying that about a month ago we had a cold week due to a polar cold snap and it was so cold one day that we got a small dusting of snow up in the Adelaide Hills and in the Flinders Ranges which is the beginning of the Australian outback. It's mostly the states of Victoria and New South Wales that get the snow in winter in the alps. Beautiful scenery too. thanks for sharing.
Oh lovely! My brother lives in Australia and he was just telling me about the snowfall there, I didnât know how much there was there. I hope to visit him someday and see it for myself ! Thank you for sharing â€ïž best wishes
Dear Paola,
I'm so glad to watch you again after a week! đ„ș I think this is one of my favorite videos you've made so far- I enjoy painting too! The photo you uploaded on your Instagram intrigued me a lot (the orange with cinnamon sticks?) â€ïž Also, would you consider showing us a day in your life of being a teacher there?

Thank you so very much! Iâm so glad you enjoyed it â€ïž that black dog is Aegir my puppy, and the little cream one is my motherâs who visits often.
Iâd love to show more of my teaching job but itâs difficult since I do not film my students. But I will definitely show a bit of the building and after hours sometime! Thank you for your lovely comment! Sending love as well âš
