    Just to make that clear: the two real bass tracks are only ONE recording! So the second track is just a copy.

      @prestonlambeth9368 Před 6 lety +1

      That's the point dude... you take the same track, copy it, then highness and lowpass filter it..

    How to get great metal bass.
    0. Use proper gain staging at all times.
    1. Record bass
    2. copy track (2 tracks total)
    3. On Track 1, using an EQ, drastically cut the mids around 1k with a wide Q width.
    4. On Track 2, using an EQ, COMPLETELY cut out the lows and highs, leaving just the mids present. (essentially you are filling the mids back in)
    5. On Track 2, insert a distortion/drive plugin and drive it heavily. (essentially you are driving just the mids)
    6. On Track 2, lower the volume from the mixer and blend accordingly to the entire track. (This is all dependent on the track characteristics)

    your music sounds great. thanks for the helpful video, i will definitely try this to enliven my bass tone. pro tip: a selection of music isn't called an "extract", it's called an "excerpt". thanks for the help.

    You got the bass gelling well with addictive drums..You should make a video explaining that process..

  • @jonathanandersson4003
    @jonathanandersson4003 Před 7 lety +4

    If you want to process the midi bass in two seperate tracks you can bounce the bass into audio-tracks and process them seperately.

    Just my opinion, I prefer that clicky low end tone over a distorted bass tone. Sounds great 👍🏼

    Nice work my friend, interesting video to see how other people do this.
    I often switch between MIDI bass and my real bass (Fender Squire 70's Jazz) depending on the song/riffs.
    I gotta ask why were you recording in stereo and not mono for this ?

    • @MilianMalivukMusic
      @MilianMalivukMusic  Před 7 lety

      Probably because when I add a new audio track, it is stereo, and I apparently missed to switch the bass track to mono, which obviously is sufficient :D

    My God! Drums sound amazing..what preset did you use, have you already shared it with anyone, can you do so if possible ? I bought AD with Metal preset pack but those are ...how to say it... very raw, can not be really use in a song.... do you have any AD preset that you can share with or sell if possible ? Please let me know, cheers!

    Nice job! that sounds killer. Question for you. Your video is "how to blah blah with only Logic plugins", cool.. but what does your stereo aux track look like? how are you mixing things? are you still only using logic stock plugins? or do you have some other tricks up your sleeve? I am dying to know. Do you have any other videos on how to get the overall tones to sit in the mix? or how to mix them in general? Please let me know. Again, great work!

    • @MilianMalivukMusic
      @MilianMalivukMusic  Před 6 lety +1

      Yep, true. What you can do is use MIDI bass to layer it underneath your real bass and get massive and clear lowend!

  • @droptmusic3572
    @droptmusic3572 Před 7 lety

    Very nice! There's actually another way how you can do it if you don't own a bass guitar: just record the bass track d.i. with the guitar and then pitch it down one octave. I know it is not perfect, but at least it doesn't sound like this "machine gun" midi bass. I personally don't own a bass guitar and I think it's a very good alternative :)

    • @MilianMalivukMusic
      @MilianMalivukMusic  Před 7 lety

      I tried this too, but I thought that it's going to miss that real punch in the lows :) Yeah, tbh it sounds very robotic, but you smooth that out with velocity and unsnapping the notes from the grid (which is a lot of work, but if you don't have a bass it's a cool alternative to me)

    • @leonk6950
      @leonk6950 Před 7 lety

      Drop T Music to the mix of those! record and pitch down. then take the best things out of that. after that, get the midibass to be triggered by the bass recording ( via some plugins, I know it works in reaper). then take the punch from the midi, and the rest from the recording!

  • @deadmaster61
    @deadmaster61 Před 6 lety

    I know this is only part of what you talked about and not really relevant to actual theme of the video. But about compressors,..compression is basically pushing down the peaks of a sound wave so that they will sound more level (as you said) with lower peaks...I think they call that range of the high peaks to low peaks "dynamic range"...lol I saw this simple explanation in a video once after trying to figure out what they actually did for months...

  • @peinmilan
    @peinmilan Před 7 lety

    You said that you needed the MIDI bass to go as low as F# but then you cut everything below 60Hz? (seen at 10:55)
    What's the point?

    • @MilianMalivukMusic
      @MilianMalivukMusic  Před 7 lety +1

      Playing in F# doesn't mean you need the super low frequencies in your mix. I just use MIDI bass for F# because the real bass would be unplayable in that tuning. However, the F# that is played on the bass for supporting the guitars isn't in the sub-frequency range yet. 60Hz may be a little high cutoff, but it's easier to mix and makes it less muddy.
