      Thank you for all your content this question is a little off topic. I'm looking in your tutorials on how to erase a single instrument in a midi track on GarageBand. I'm using Mac and when I go to erase an instrument it erases the whole line not just one individual instrument what am I doing wrong?

      Spend the money and gear and start twisting knobs , advertise your work for
      Free and learn as you go. A year at Berklee could get you an API 1608 and all the mics and cables you need. Spend the second year on a spot. 3rd on acoustic treatment and routing. 4th to live off of while you build your name.

    Another great video!
    Big fan here. I like how concise you are with your videos. I think you have a great way of removing all of the confusion about this vastly complicated subject.
    Focusing on the fundamentals.
    This whole step by step concept of yours, has completely changed
    the way that I approach my songs.
    I got caught up in thinking that the reason why my songs didn’t have that professional sound was because I didn’t know all of the mastering tricks and ear candy that the pros have.
    I needed to invest more money in my Studio Gear.
    I thought I needed to learn more advanced techniques.
    Turns out I needed to go all the way back to the beginning.
    Now my mixes have a clarity I could’ve never achieved before.
    I used to throw a bunch of reverb and delay on everything long before the mixing process because it did sound better in that stage of the creation.
    But all this did was hinder my abilities to mix because there were too many resonating frequencies happening and made it impossible to hone in on the real problems. Thank you so much for all of these videos that you make.
    You are helping so many people.
    Thank you!

      @TheBandGuide  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Great question! In general I like SSL style compressors on the mix bus. I like the way they handle transients and the subtle saturation they provide. If I'm using the stock Logic compressor I believe the SSL emulation is the Vintage VCA. I dig it a lot. Sometimes I'll use the Waves SSL or the BusterSE from analog obsession

    Thank you, very helpful, as usual. When you talk about automation, you don't mention the possibility to automate the volume on the master track to enhance sections of the song. My mixes often start out with the master fader at -2 dB, to save some headroom to crank the volume up 1-2 dB in the choruses or other parts of the song that needs to be made more "pregnant" in the sound picture. // Ulf

    I have a question about Logic Pro. if I create an aux let say its a reverb aux and lets say I have a lead vocal bus and a background vocal bus. I realised that in logic when you create an aux that aux channel only has one fader so what if I wanted to use that reverb aux as a send for both my lead vocal bus and my background vocal bus but lets say I wanted a bit more of the reverb on my background vocals how can I use the same aux for both buses but increase the reverb level on my backgrounds if there is only one fader. I'm new to mixing so its just a general question.

    Hey do you have any advice for mixing and trying to get good sound with a electric drum kit?

    • @TheBandGuide
      @TheBandGuide  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Definitely-
      1) Be sure your tones coming from the electric kit are sounds you like
      2) Make sure your kick and snare are loud enough (often I find they are mixed too low)
      3) Use EQ to accentuate frequencies that sound good to you. It's impossible to tell you what it needs without hearing it, but often some low end (50ish hz) and a some 3000hz helps it feel full and present. But again, trust your ears- your kit might have enough or too much of those frequencies already)
      4) Use compression with a slower attack time (10-30ms) to add punch
      5) A little bit of small room reverb can help it feel more realistic
