  • Chicago saxophonist JOE DALEY ( 1918-1994 ) deserved wider recognition. This recently-discovered jam session shows him at his best - virtuosic, unpredictable, whimsical… and always SWINGING HARD. “Doxy” by Sonny Rollins and “Well You Needn’t” by Thelonious Monk were the jazz vehicles via which he and his fellow players threw sparks. And it’s easy to notice that a good time was had by all - musicians AND audience.

The photos were provided by woodwind wizard Rich Corpolongo, a long-time friend and musical co-conspirator with Joe Daley, who is also the author of “Memories of the Great Joe Daley” from a 2007 edition of “Chicago Jazz Magazine”. Approval for the use of the article was given by Mike Jeffers, the founder and president of that magazine.
