  • In our first drive video of the Volkswagen Virtus, we tell you all of its positives and negatives. This soon-to-be launched Volkswagen Virtus is based on the same MQB-AO-in platform that also underpins Taigun, Kushaq and Slavia, and thus share its powertrain and some components with the aforementioned models. We drove both the 1.0L and 1.5L automatic versions of the car. Unlike the Slavia, the Virtus only gets the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and not the manual. Though the prices are yet to be released, we expect it to be priced between Rs 10.50 lacs to Rs 20 lacs.

    Sir I have been a proud owner of a VW Vento 2012 model and recently updated to Skoda Slavia 1.5 MT. I am in complete accord with you on the steering accuracy as you described. However after driving my car for almost 1500km I now don’t feel it even when I switch back to the old Vento. Perhaps you should try driving a owned car which has been driven by an owner for some time. The steering also feels light (Can steer with a finger). I also feel the ideal tyre inflation pressure should be 33 if the front and 35 in the rear. Hope these parameters appeal to your driving pleasure at it does mine. Cheers!

    The dashboard in the current VW Polo is same to that of the Virtus and it comes with high quality soft touch surface abroad. So VW should really work on the quality of the interior as it's not fair that they give lesser quality in Indian products. With that said, I'm a VW Polo owner both in Germany and in India and I generally like VW cars.

    Hey ICNStudio Team, congratulations and thank you for the great job you are doing. I need an advice. I am an existing Honda City user, a sedate light foot driver who enjoys driving but mostly at 80-100 range when engine is not feeling strained.
    I am at a point where I have an chance to upgrade and I am confused between Virtus 1.5 DSG, City Hybrid and Normal Petrol ZX CVT City. 1.5 DSG with all its goodness still has this reliability question mark for Indian conditions that is very relevant. Most of my driving will be in City traffic and I am used to Honda’s reliability and smoothness. Hybrid City is great but 306 boot is massive degrade fro me and ADAS features are not must for me. What would you suggest?
    And btw I hate the red lines on dashboard and blacked out wheels in Virtus. I would love to have silver/body coloured elements there.

    Great review, really helpful. However, I have a couple of questions. It would be very helpful if you can answer it for me please.
    1. How does the cylinder de-activation technology affects the engine life in long term?
    2. If Two cylinders are used more than the others, wouldn't it increase the wear and tear of those two which have been working more than remaining two?
    3. How these cylinders are selected? As in, every time 2 random cylinders are selected for de-activation or only 2 specific cylinders will be de-activated every time?

    • @apoorvupadhyay5116
      @apoorvupadhyay5116 Před 2 lety +1

      Won't really affect the engine life as, you're putting way more stress on each cylinder while driving in a spirited manner. Compared to that, this is nothing. Plus engine can go upto 500K kms in a standard life span, so does it really matter if any engine life is reduced?

    • @ronaik
      @ronaik Před 2 lety

      It would deactivate the 2 cylinders only when it can manage the load with 2 cylinders and doesn’t require to use the other 2. So in a way it would save the wear and tear of 2 cylinders.

    • @aayushbhatt
      @aayushbhatt Před 2 lety

      @@ronaik I know that but question is which 2 cylinders are deactivated? Also, there are vidoes of cylinder deactivation tech of Honda leading to uneven wear and tear of cylinders, which effects the life of whole engine. I think same goes for Volkswagen/ Skoda as well due to same principle.
      I am looking if there is a way to disable the cylinder de-activation in Skoda without affecting the warranty.

    I would have loved to see a compact sedan which means bit less boot space and under 4 m with 4 cylinder engine and 1.3 or 1.5 ltr engine with good AC( as I am used to temp around 26 or 27°C ) and good steering control. That would make more sense for most as not everyone needs too much bootspace. Those who need more bootspace can fold their rear seats to accommodate more stuff. Those who want more bootspace can go in bigger sedans or bigger SUV but most won't require that. Comfort of sedans hatchbacks can't match but really no one is making those. Dzire etc I don't like bcz we feel that we are sitting extremely low and my height is less. Hopefully Volkswagen can make a trimmed down version of Virtus with less boot space and removes those flaws that you have mentioned in this video. If that sort of sedans come under 10 lacs then sedans can make a comeback but it would be compact sedan. Sedans won't be able to turnaround SUV domination unless priced reasonably well and being practical in India. Long cars in city traffic are headache to even park or for reverse stuff. Also, they need to do lot of localization like Huyndai or Maruti to keep maintenence at low costs. Compact sedans under 10 Lacs can make the cut and they should be available with CNG options. People would start moving to Volkswagen more than Maruti in that case bcz build quality is amazing in them.
    Also, I would have loved to see a car like Nano from Volkswagen stable and doesn't matters if it didn't had bootspace bcz many people just want to commute inside car if their running is mostly in the city and don't require bootspace. Just need spare wheel at the back in standing position and toolkit. These two sort of cars I would have loved to see with all practical safety features. Cheap cars we don't need anymore which can't ensure our safety but top variants of them reaching 7-8 lacs. There should be a basic minimum criteria for base models now imposed by govt on manufacturers like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Traction Control, ESP, Type Pressure Monitoring System etc. Driver seat should be height adjustable even in base variant and tilt and telescopic steering wheel too should be a standard now. I don't understand one thing why most manufacturers don't want to give adequate lumbar and thigh support in their seats. Does that costs way too much that they can't give that in base models ? Cars one need for comfort and safety. If that's not there then what's the whole point in having cars and the point is that they don't do such things abroad. Only in India. Compare models of those that are selling in India with those that are getting exported abroad. There shouldn't be too much discrepancy. Our road conditions are different so need ground clearance of atleast 175 mm and rest suspension and steering tuning etc would be different but what about rest.
    Bro I wanted to ask one thing is Hybrid technology really relevant in cars like Maruti bcz don't witness too much fuel economy even with that installed. It might only creep up our maintenance costs later bcz it too would require battery and other stuff.
    Then I would like to know more about IMT, DCT, CVT etc from you and which one is really best or cost effective in India.

    Question- from rear seat the view is such that the back seat passanger can view only front seat and hardly anything on road from front window without making efforts. What’s your opinion on this as compared to other cars

      Why do you want to see the road sitting at the rear seat?

      That’s exactly what’s being shown here. Why do I have to first first press the right or upper button then select end and press ok to end a simple call especially when I am driving?
