  • Most Dangerous Ways To School - Colombia
In northern Colombia, in the region Bajo Cauca, more than 180 miles north of Medellín, the landscape is marked by water and seemingly endless expanses. Every day, the children who live there face this rough, unpredictable wilderness - with just one goal in mind: making it to school. Because this is their chance to break out of poverty and create a better life. Like the ten year old Kendys and the other schoolchildren.
For this, they subject themselves to a daily dose of danger. Some of them must cross a ramshackle bridge that could collapse at any moment. Like the ten year old Kendys and some other schoolchildren. One false step and they could drown or break their legs.
Ten-year-old Juan does not have to cross the bridge, but first he has to cross a river in an extremely wobbly canoe, and then walk through deep mud full of stingrays. Although his way is dangerous, he’s glad that he can go to school at all. It brings him a little closer to his dream of moving to a big city.
The children face all this under tough conditions. The temperature is already 34 degrees Celsius in the morning, with humidity at 97 percent. In order to get closer to their wishes and dreams, each day these children carry not only a backpack, but also the fear - on one of the world’s most dangerous ways to school.

Nobody talks about how amazing their teacher is?

One-room schools are still used today, with only one teacher, teaching all grades in America.
Very rural areas and even the Amish teach that way.
It used to be that way everywhere.
And, when our grandparents told us those stories about how they made it to school, believe them. Yeah, it's a joke everyone tells these days, but as you can see in these videos, it's common in places around the world.

This teachers dedication and love for these kids! There are other episodes where the children got corporal punishment for being late despite their dire circumstances. Where the teachers openly derided the kids for being “the poor ones” that “they just can’t learn well because of where they come from” and the classes seemed cold and lacking joy. This woman uses her meager paycheck to buy supplies, smiles and laughs with the children, engages them, and understands what they go through to be there and in life in general and makes class everyday engaging, educational( for 3 different levels) and fun. Absolutely amazing. I wish there was a link for donating supplies.

God gave humans brains for a reason to make them smart to help everything in the world and teach their children the goods and the bad but obviously some of them are not doing that I even said do not blame God and Jesus blame the people who are the leaders of the country all they want is money they don’t help the kids they just want the money so that their family can be rich so don’t tell me to open my eyes if you don’t agree my opinion fine, all I’m saying is that you are blaming someone higher than you for not helping those kids why don’t you as a human being who’s got brains even me as well and everyone else who is having a better life than these kids can HELP! Cried the whole time. I pray they have a safer route and they become great leaders and citizens of the planet.

36:59 Huge respect to the teacher, it took a big heart and a lot of dedication to teach the way like her, and those little kisses from the students are probably mean the world to her. (Even though here in US could possibly get you arrested, lol~) Ps: The girl at the beginning is stunning, almost like a model. Best wishes to them all. This is no doubt one of my favorite document series. :)

We can initiate a project and NGO aiming to help these and other kids in need of help.

It's not hard... I've seen these types of comments so many times in this doc series....I don't understand how people don't think about just contacting the people that made these documentary? Wouldn't that be a good place to at least start? The name is right at the end of every single one of these documentary. All you have to do from there is look them up online!!!!
I'd be so curious to know from all the comments I've seen from people saying they want to do this and that for the kids...how many have actually done anything!!!????

I agree. First of all is the look at the location. Secondly see how much would it be to get an structure built with the proper judgement for the area and possible water issues and thirdly pay a company to do so by raising some funds.

This brakes my heart to see young kids walking miles just to get to school. New Zealanders are taking advantage. We need to help these kids make it to school easier.

I will never complain walking a couple of blocks walking to school as a kid. To all of these kids, may you all continue to learn and prosper. Hope you all make your dreams come true. ❤
