For me the version of Floor Jansen, give me more emotional feelings, than the version with Tarja. Tarja is a very good singer, but Floor is fenominal, she can sing operatic, angelic, rock, metal, pop, growling. So she gives me the chills with every song, and can bring the emotions to inside my own bones.
You don't know it yet. But everything you listen to by Floor Jansen will blow your mind. Every song from wacken 2013, every song from Tampere 2015, every song from Wembley 2016, Every song from Buenos Aires 2018 and every song from Beste Zangers 2019 with Floor Jansen will question every female you ever heard. I'm telling you now. She is the greatest female singer in the world right now !!

Well, you just witnessed Her Majesty Northern Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen, she is Dutch). Floor has classical background, rock academy behind, and used to be a vocal coach for a number of years. Floor is the most versatile and powerful female singer today and can sing anything from more pop-y style, classic opera, to metal screams and growls. Floor sings emotions, not words.
Floor joined Nightwish in the middle of their Imaginaerum world tour in late 2012 (which includes this show from August 2013). Previous singer, Anette Olzon (she's currently in Dark Element) left the band while they were touring, and there was no certainty what to do with all the upcoming shows. They called Floor (her previous band did tour with NW in the past, and they knew each other). Floor flew immediately to help them out and temporarily replace Anette for the rest of the world tour. She arrived two days before the next show, and she had only 48 hours to learn the entire setlist. And she did. For Floor it was first really big gig with Nightwish, 82K people, at the time she was only for a few months with the band. After the world tour (in October 2013), they made Floor their official member. This song was performed at the end of 90min show, at the 1hr 10min mark.
Nightwish formed in '96 in Finland, initially with Tarja (Tar-ya) Turunen (you already saw her) as a vocalist. She left the band in 2005, and Anette Olzon stepped in, until 2012.
The bassist with a cool beard is Marco, and he sings some parts too. He has his own solo project outside the Nightwish.
The mastermind behind 99% of lyrics and music is a keyboardist Tuomas.
Guitarist name is Emppu, and the drummer in this show is Jukka (Yukka), but later he was replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues.
Flutes/uilleann pipes/guitar/vocals - Troy, he did not perform in this song.
Nightwish is better live, always, so if live performance is available, go for it. In their performances, they often using recorded backtrack of a classical orchestra for their songs.
They have very diverse music, from more light songs to epic scores like this, and to really heavy metal stuff.

For me is this performance one of the greatest and finest music performance ever.
Great reaction. I love how you respect both singers and both sounds. I grew up with Tarja and this song was written for Tarja's era and you are right to point out the different mixes. It is fun to hear the songs with the same instrumentation, yet two different interpretations, not just with the vocals. Having said that, I feel that Floor is the right fit for the band. They're better than ever.

I really enjoyed your reaction to this great song at a moment in time that was captured for us to enjoy years later. The entire Wacken show is memorable for the introduction of Floor and Troy as permanent members of the band. This was the version of Ghost Love Score I heard over a year ago, that set me on my Nightwish path. So much to listen to over the years. Their new album is so much more than I hoped for. Sorry, but Nigthwish with Floor, is at a higher level, Tarja is really good singer, but Floor is better, and the version Ghost Love score with Floor, for me, is much better, it's incomparable. Floor voice is from another world

Since this is your first Nightwish experience, I'll give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan:
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Love both versions. For different reasons. Tarja was my introduction to nightwish. Annette brought a totally different sound to nightwish. Floor brings that x factor that takes nightwish from good to great. Still am in love with with them. Even after 20 years.
I agree, Tarja got me into Nightwish, I even liked Annette, but Floor is my favourite hands down. I love all 3 singers and what each of them have done for the band, I will add that for me, Nemo will always be a Tarja song and Amaranth will always be an Annette song, but they're just the versions I prefer. All 3 have their own strengths and people have their own opinions and tastes. If you like it, enjoy it, if you don't move on and let those that do enjoy it listen without being told they are wrong.

I am glad you did this. They both are powerfull and great singers and i hope you do more Nightwish. 3 singers, everyone has left their mark on the music but i think Floor is the perfection what Tuomas (guy on keyboard, he is the mastermind and composer) needed.
Really, any song from this Wacken concert is great but as Vadim linked already, Storytime, Song of Myself, Ghost River, those are very good ones to go next.
You will get much more after those, but you can see small taste of the versatility with those.
And if you do like it, you will learn the whole history of the band and there are couple epics to come with it.

Loved the reaction, tnx. I got into Nightwish with the Oceanborn album, and I loved it very much. Then I got the DVD From wishes to Eternity and thought, this is just perfect. And I still think that. but Floor just brings it to another level, she can sing anything from growl to the sweetest voice and never a bad note live...

Agree with the orchestral and chord sound its too low in this version I guess it's because is an open air show, but Floor vocals are much better here.

I think this version was played the same with the orchestra lower than the other version so it sounded different. I noticed that as well. The other thing I noticed is Tarja also didn't have the power with her vocals as Floor has. At times it was hard to hear Tarja over the choir and instruments where with Floor you couldn't hear the choir as much you could fainly hear it. It is either the power of her voice or as wirh the orchestra it was turned down.

I'm an old nightwish fan. I Know Tarja since nightwish, and I Know Floor since After Forever, her old band. Both Tarja and Floor are amazing singers. I fell in love with them since I discovered her bands. Personally, I prefer the old nightwish songs with Tarja, but it's not about quality, it's a question of taste. Nightwish with Tarja is more gothic, emotional and dark. Part of this is because of the Tarja's dark operistic voice. Floor can use operistic vocals too, and she did that a lot in After Forever. I miss her lyrical singing, it's less dark than Tarja, but it's wonderfull too. Tuomas seems doesn't want to explore this kind vocals since Tarja is gone. It was a traumatic episode for the band and for Tarja. Both have her versions about it, but, for me, the band were very cruel. That's why I feel specially sick when new nightwish fans try to underrate Tarja. It feels like the unfairness happens again. And It's very unecessary. Floor is wonderful and to recognize this is not necessary to diminuish Tarja. Thank you for both reactions!

@@LeN0Re18 Personally I think the way the band decided to fire her says more about the band than about Tarja. The way Tarja reacted to them in the media after they published the letter was more respectfull than the band's atittude. I see Tarja as a sweet person. For me, the way she talks to the people shows it. For example, today I watched a live in instagram. Tarja talked with Kiko loureiro (megadeth) and Sharon (within temptation). She was very cute with the guests and fans. And this behavior I have seen since she was in nightwish.

You can talk and talk how sweet she is.. but were you there on the road? When on tv and you know al the people are watching you always can act nice..Fact is that she and her husband destroying the band.. they were having their own agenda with no respect for bandmembers and fans..
So the way she got fired is saying a lot about the person Tarja was on that point in life.

That's why saying that Tarja was playing in front of the camera is just an assumption, which doesn't make sense to me. If there were any differences between them, they could talk and terminate the contract in a common way. But they preferred to write the letter in silence, and deliver it to Tarja at the end of the show "End of an Era" with the recommendation that she read it another day, because at that moment she was happy with the success of the show and the Tour. The following day, the letter was published on the band's website, talking about a version of the facts, which includes things from Tarja's personal life. I think this is not correct. If you want to fire someone, there is no need to expose that person's personal life. In response, Tarja spoke in a different way. She did not attack the band. She just said how sad and shocked she was at what was happening. These different postures, for me, say in favor of Tarja. That's why I think the letter says more about the band than about Tarja. But everyone is free to have their opinion.

Comparing Nightwish singers is always going to open a can of worms.
There are diehard fans of all three singers (well two of them certainly.)
Taja was/still is a good Opera singer but Floor is in a whole different league!
She can do what the previous singers can do and she can go way beyond that and sing any style (it seems almost in any language.)
During the 'Floor era' the band have exploded in popularity to become the biggest Symphonic metal band in the world and one of the most, if not The most reacted band on CZcams.
Although Tuomas (keyboards) is the guiding light of the band and writes the majority of the music, he treats singers as a musical instrument and with Floor, he's got a limitless palate.
It is why Nightwish's music has become more varied and more technically complex as time as gone on, not only has he matured and honed his craft to a level of brilliance, he's got the musicians around him that are good enough to remove any limitations he may have once had.
Tuomas has also stated that if Floor ever leaves the band he'll disband Nightwish, I don't think he could go through another singer split again and he also knows Floor is irreplaceable.
It's not just her voice but her charisma, stage presence and personality as well.
Together the band are now a dream team and can only accomplish more outstanding works as they carry on.
The only loss I mourn a little is Jukka, the drummer, he's been replaced by Kai Hato because of ill health.
Kai is an unbelievable drummer but I miss Jukka's style behind the kit, he is larger than life in the tradition of great rock drummers.
At least it was a split due to ill health not ill feeling like the previous singers and he still works for the band in management so he's still part of the team.

Tarja is great, but listen to the ends of both versions again, and you'll notice that Tarja didn't even think about doing what Floor added to the end of her version.

Helping you out as one English speaker to another who has leant a Sacndinavian language...Tarja is pronounced Tar-Ree-Ah the Ta rj a where the j is a y sound. Great reaction.

I agree. Although Tarja is even a great singer Floor’s style add more emotion to the song. While Anette and Tarja are already have stopped singing (and the background choir became more and more dominant), Floor continue till the end while the chorus of the choir fade away. Floor does not let her send away but fights for the love while the other singers seems to give up hope and get away like a last farewell. So maybe this is exemplary to their dismissal by NW.

Good reaction......Not mine...I like the more powerful and style changing sound of Floor. Floor singing any Nightwish song is a joy for me. You want to hear her range and style abilities, search Floor Beste Zangers ( a Dutch program ) where she sings in six genres.

I think Floor vocals merge perfectly with Nighwish. Tarja vocals ovelayed the band's sound, it wasn't a perfect fit, going full operatic all the time. IDK, but Nightwish 3.0 is the band's best formation ever (I prefer Jukka over Kai, he war a beast on drums, but Kay is very good)!!!
Love Tarja but Floor takes it to new heights.
I think you may be picking up on sound mixing being much better on the Tarja version than the Floor version. The orchestral backing track is very much buried in the mix here, and Floors mic is not as high in the mix as Tarjas was either. That’s one of my gripes about Wacken 2013 (and the more recent DVDs as well for that matter). It’s such a fantastic performance from the band and Floor but the audio is not mixed well compared to End of an Era, which is a shame.

Floor's low notes are weak compared to Tarja's (whose low notes are luscious), the darkness in Tarja's voice is equally seamless throughout her chest, mixed, and head voice, (in comparison to Floor's, whose head voice is way too bright; meaning she hasn't had the proper training to smoothen out her passagio), and she and Tarja have the exact same range of 3.5 octaves (nice try though). Tarja's voice just has the added benefit of having a smooth, rich, dark, full-bodied, lyric soprano with a gorgeous color. Floor's voice is beautiful, it's just weak in comparison. Good thing she can sing rock, because she sure as shit can't beat Tarja's classically trained instrument. And who the fuck thinks singing pop is a good thing lol?

As much as I loved the original version, this is now the definitive version of this song. I can't listen to original anymore, it just doesn't hold up.

the song was written for tarja's tone of voice... she's a soprano.... flor isn't a soprano... she doesn't sing an opera either
but i think floor should sing a different version without overtones because it would be trying to copy the Tarja's voice...
Nightwish with Floor is the true Nightwish. Tarja obviously is a great singer, but for live performance - Floor really does beat Tarja hands down, Tarja isn't really that impressive live in comparison. Nightwish survived Tarja leaving exceptionally well, I don't think they'd survive if Floor left
idk why but if i compare the tarja version of it with the one from floor i really feel like tarja has no real emotions in it. i dont get goosebumps. She sings pretty damn impressive but it doesnt touch me as much as the version of floor does.
Sorry, Tarja doesn't cut it against Floor. Floor can do anything Tarja can do, and do it better. Annete is purely poppy she's not really symphonic Metal. I'm fairly new to the band and have heard all three. Including Tarja's version of GLS and it simply isn't their imo.

I prefer nightwish with tarja in general, it was magical and original, it gave her that feeling, I don't like it now with floor she screams a lot and they sound like another band in the crowd
Im was first a big time Floor first cause shes awesome, BUT, after hearing TARJA, i changed mt mind to Tarja FIRST, then 2nd Foor Jensen. Floor sounds a bit like CELINE DIEON!
Floor is way more versatile than Tarja. The only song I prefer Tarja singing is Sleeping Sun.
