Ludwig sounds very eccentric but also fun and audacious. Visiting his castles are definitely bucket list worthy!

Agree totally, Daniela! Sad if he did not get to trust anyone ,to be a friend, at least? On my mother's side, we go back to Bavaria, as her grandfather, (my great grandfather )came from there originally.

His biographers say he was homosexual. Because of his focus to build this castle with his own personal funds (protecting in this way the State), a jealous court claimed insanity & inept to rule, stripped him of his rights and locked him up which is the equivalent of today's conservatorship.

i wish i could go see neuschwanstein at least once before i die.... seems like a total fairy tale experience. my god, such art. breathtaking. plus the surroundings... amazing. but how sad that ludwig II died at 40 amid all that opulence... shows that this world does not keep its promises the way we think it would.

Does anyone know if the Author of Phantom of the Opera, Gaston Leroux, ever visit Lindehof? Cuz if he did, that explains EXACTLY where he got the idea for the Lake under the Opera, where Erik The Phantom lived! This is amazing. That cave is just what Leroux wrote about in the book! 🥰

  • @elguapodelmonte215

King Ludwig of Bavaria, "Ludwig the Builder" he had a few building projects going, including Neuschwenstein Castle,
built by Ludwig , the big-wig at that time, he also ordered built Lindhof Castle, to prove the first effort wasn't a fluke,
he was more an artist than a Monarchist, while some may criticize, he left a legacy for all Bavarian's, one thing that
stand's out like a sore thumb, the "turkish room" in the Nueschweinstein Castle, they say that Ludwig himself built
the Turkish room, it's fantasy talk, as Ludwig himself died in around 1886 (aged 40) but the turkish hashish pippee
room, where he would smoke pippas and drink tea. Some 60 years in arrears, the "room" was not built till late 1945,
at the American's bequest, apparently part of the falsies deal, they thought it was a movie set.

windstorm1000 The Germans would not do it. They have made fortune out of it but they would not spend to finish it. They're very stingy to a fault... Have u seen the emblem on a german passport, the eagle is quite austere, symbolising the German attitude toward spending... King Ludwig was a misnomer to the German characteristics of frugality... He was showy and glamorous...

Jentul Jay Not that you are wrong (you certainly are not) but I think if we made us germans realize how much profit we can earn from such tourist attractions in the long term attitudes might change... You can build yourself into a tourist attraction Ludwigs palaces are the perfect example but so is Dubai.

by leaving part of the palace incomplete, it gives civil engineers and architects invaluable insight in the methods of construction used at the time. If you wish a complete (and more elaborate) picture of the palace; go visit Versailles. It was the inspiration for this palace.
