  • "Pedro", a HH-46E Sea Knight helicopter, visited the 2015 Free To Be Me event in Greenville on May 30th. This is the video of the marines starting the engines and departing Pitt-Greenville Airport (KPGV) at the end of the event. What a helicopter! The crew that flew in with Pedro and stayed at the event was super nice, too. Apologies for the quality of the video, I was holding a cellphone to record this and trying to take pictures with a SLR camera at the same time.

I was stationed at MCAS Cherry Pt. for 9 years. Meritoriously promoted to SGT. I worked on the Harriers, both I and O-Level Maintenance hydraulics, for VMA 223 & MALS 32 in the same hanger as Pedro SOES from 83-87 (still had a few A4's back then), then got orders right across the hanger from MALS 32 to SOES Operation Equipment Squadron (Pedro), where I worked in the hydraulic shop as a CDI (collateral duty inspector) on Pedro from 87-92 (We had 4 Pedro's back then). Also worked on the two Marine Corp C9's and T39's which carried key personel .It brings back great memories, I got my AC wings flying around in Pedro as a Crew Chief and SAR swimmer.... OOOH RAH!

Man that sound brings back so many memories. Had almost 3000 hours in these. Little known fact; the big official USMC retirement ceremony for the Phrog was held in Aug 2015, in which HMM-774 flew the 'last' CH-46 accompanied by an MV-22 to the flight museum at Dulles. But I believe Pedro was actually flying some HH-46'S for another month or two after that before they retired the last one from the Marine Corps. So I believe Pedro actually has the noble distinction of flying the last phrogs in the Marine Corps.

Pedro still flys!!! She is well loved and cared for by a dedicated crew of National United States Armed Forces Museum volunteer members. Made up of prior military (all branches), and civilians. If you want to be a member and get fly again, come on down to Houston.

I was actually fortunate enough to fly on a “Pedro” Acft back in 1992+/- with my high school jrotc class, that was the same week the A-6E squadron the “Moonlighters” was decommissioned from the Marine Corps, to my recollection that was the last A-6 squadron in the Marines, and I was able to be a part of that, amazing, retired now from the military after a happy 20 years of flying as a crew chief on Army helicopters, UH-1’s and UH-60’s

I crewed Pedro out of Cherry Point in 1977, they were HH-46A's then and didn't have the power this echo has. I saw one of the birds down at the Pensacola air museum when I visited along with on of the C9's and a T39.

Private Pilot Israel Mueller she lives here in Houston Tx. We have a large volunteer Air/Ground crew that take good care of her. She even assisted during Hurricane Harvey. We fly at least once a month (unless down for maintenance.). You can follow us on FB or our website National United States Armed Forces Museum.
We’re working to 5 others from being crushed and destroyed. They include 00, and (1) HMX,, fans (3) fleet Sea Knights. We have to raise $500,000 by 30April19. If you know anyone or can spread the word it would be greatly appreciated. Did you ever fly Phrogs?

I would have liked to see the footage of the First Rag pumping the hydraulic accumulator prior to the APU start. I forgot how the EAPS comes on before engine start. It looked like the blades were out of track and rough. I did see the pilot adjust the cyclic to neutral before releasing the rotor brake. Were they tracked and how close?
