  • Hello everyone,
It is very exciting to finish my first big video on this channel, I had a lot to learn and still have more. In this video, I made a step by step guide how I build Brick Wall Pattern Cutting Boards. It is finally the time for Farmers Markets and these style boards are pretty popular. In this build, I made it from Walnut for bricks and Hard Maple for mortar and frame. Building this type of board, I find that allowing the board to dry over night for both glue ups and oil and wax, will produce a perfect board that has seamless transitions and a glass like finish. By no means it is the best way building one, everyone has their way of doing things and that if most amazing part of being a individual person. As I am learning how to film and edit these builds, I hope someone who wants to build this type of cutting board as a hobby will find this video useful as I did tutorials on editing by other amazing creators.

Thank you for the video, consider me inspired! Probably the best video on CZcams for making a brick end grain cutting board.

Great tip on rounding the edges prior to using the planer to prevent chip out.

Omg Alexis, that Board is beautiful, what is the best saw to get the cuts so nice and even. Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing and again best regards from Germany.

Re-watched your video before trying this style board. Are the maple strips edge grain or end grain? I did not notice gluing maple strips so all the grain on the finished board is end grain. But, then my old eyes don't see as well as they used to. The maple band on the long edges really look good and add a lot of character to this board.

Everything is end grain. Mixing end grain and edge is a bad idea that eventually will lead to cracking..

Hello, great job, how much did you price that cutting board for?

Do you ever have any board movement or cupping after the product is finished?

Hi Grant, I did not have that happen yet. For end grain boards I would highly recommend at least 1.5 inches thickness! My boards usually 1 5/8 - 1 3/4.

Sorry to say that the Howard's beezwax and orange oil is NOT for food prep surfaces, the cutting boards are absolutely beautiful though.

He used mineral oil and Odie's Oil, both of which are food safe. He also said that he typically uses beeswax after mineral oil, again both are food safe.
      Agreed...a beautiful board.
