Can Putin's diplomacy help him counter Western isolation? | Inside Story

  • Russia's President Vladimir Putin has wrapped up a two-nation Asia tour on a high. It was the first time in 24 years he'd set foot in North Korea and left Pyongyang with a new defence pact to show for it. His two-day visit to Vietnam yielded several new trade agreements with the manufacturing hub. Putin's latest state visits seem to be an attempt to bolster support amid increasing isolation over his war in Ukraine. But what do these countries stand to gain from closer ties with Moscow? And how is Washington reacting?
    Presenter: Laura Kyle
    Guests:
Andrei Lankov -- Professor at Kookmin University and director of NK News, an online news source fo-cused on North Korea

I think Beijing will warmly support the Russia, North Korea military pact as both countries are friends of China.
The notion "Beijing will be concerned by this pact" is just a propaganda to create a rift among the eastern blocs. The reality on the ground is countries that are victims of US sanctions and pressures are grouping and strengthening their bonds at the same time they are expanding too. And the bloc they are forming is greater in population, bigger in economy, and strongly bonded. That is the major reason why sanctions on Russia are failed and Russia is still growing better than countries in the west. In addition, Russia is winning on the battle field.

Russia is only isolated by the world minority which consists of colonial minded, power hungry criminals in the EU and the west. The world majority are doing business with Russia as usual. Government officials from the world majority have been making state visits to Russia but mainstream media fails to report on this. Russian officials have made many visits to other countries as well. The BRICS games are underway in Russia as we speak. SPIEF 2024 also took place recently where over 150 Countries took part. An additional 5 countries joined BRICS last year and around 50 more have expressed an interest in joining this year. If anyone is isolated.... it's the EU and the western countries.

And you'll only create enemies. This is why I leave other well enough alone. I have enough haters! I'm not about to create more by trying to tell others how to live!

The answer has been yes for two years since the sanctions were enforced by the US and EU. Even the Western economists and banks have acknowledged this. Russia's economy grew and continues to grow despite of, or probably because of the sanctions and isolationism that the US and EU did. In fact the sanctions have backfired on the US and EU, more so on the EU seeing their economies sink because of these sanctions. A better question should be, "does the EU and US know what they are doing?" Because it seems they're still clueless

Both China and Russia will learn and benefit from developing their relationship with a much smaller and much underrated DPRK. In the context of an emerging Eurasian multipolar world order, major state leaders such as China, Russia, India etc; have a lot to learn from the way that the DPRK has become such a resilient, secure and relatively self sustaining fortress. While the DPRK's resilience is in response to the sanctions that have been imposed on the state and it's people, it is also made possible by the strength and character of it's Korean population and their culture.
