Chika has shown her intelligence here and there throughout the series, but it wasn't until recently that I realized why it seemed so different. Chika isn't studious. As a result she seems flighty and unintelligent but she knows several languages. She's had to learn those, she's clearly smart and dedicated enough to do so. Yet even then that's not her wheelhouse, that's not where she shines. So what is it? When the election arc rolled around I realized what she has is charismatic intelligence. She almost certainly learned those languages by hearing fluent speakers. She learned piano because she enjoyed the reaction it got. Her mind thinks at all times about how to benefit from the people around her or how they can benefit from her. She truly is a born politician.
Well, she's not dumb. She just focus more in the things her likes, and does the minimum with things that are necessary, but not interesting. It has even been said already that the only reason her grades got bad it's because she has been caught in the cross fire between Kaguya and Miyuki. In the election arc she is the main person running the platform and she also manipulates those Kaguya couldn't buy to vote for Shirogane. And in the arc that just ended in the manga: .[Heavy spoilers bellow] . . . . . . . . She straight up deceived armed guards trying to kidnap someone with just basic information and no time to prepare.
It's more that she seems dumb because she is fighting against people who are literally top of their country. Anybody would look dumb around Miyuki and Kaguya. Of course, there are things like social understanding and situational awareness that she does lack, but frankly, it's a pretty common theme in the series for people to not notice those things, so she's not special in that regard, we just see her the most. Some characters like Erika and Karen's entire characters are built on things like that.

i think my favourite thing about chika is that you realise more and more that she's literally the antagonist of the series, even more so in the manga. Basically everything the two main protagonists do is usually planned around chika so as to avoid and distract her with something else as much as physically possible because she can and will destroy literally every plan they could come up with

I think the fact you can give an accurate summation of what would happen if the Student Council was asked "Who is Best Girl?", yet still be able to discuss the basics of just how complex these characters are speaks VOLUMES on all their character designs. You know them well enough that you can get a feel for what they would do in a situation, yet the reasons why or the exact details of how it plays out are a whole story by themselves. Much of the same can be said about close friends or relatives, which makes this kind of character design beautiful!!!
Underselling best boy Miyuki I see. I consider him the other half of the show; he's just similar enough to Kaguya in ambition and intelligence that them clashing wits is entertaining and funny, but is distinct from Kaguya in upbringing and temperament making the cutesy scenes between him and Kaguya work. He's just a genuinely sweet and sometimes even passionate guy, but doesn't want to appear weak to anyone, especially Kaguya, hence why neither of them admit their feelings to the other. His family is broke and come from nothing, yet he can still work his way to be the Student Council President of this prestigious school AND is a genuinely nice guy. Also the bags under his eyes...I feel that. He's definitely relatable and not too generic like many male love interests in these kinds of shows tend to be. He's also responsible and can cook...c'mon that is top tier waifu material right there.
They are also polar opposites that attract in the sense of her being a rich talented know it all and him relying on pure diligent work to stand on equal grounds with her

The only real downside to Hayasaka is also kind of the best part: She's an AMAZING actor, which can either make you question which face she wears is the real one (and distrust her in the process) or make RPing in an MMO (or elsewhere) together the best thing ever.
Have to say that is the best analysis of Chika's character I've ever heard. Usually people completely gloss over her mean streak and view her as only this pure and fluffy comic relief character. I think her egotistical and condescending nature (she is a politicians daughter after all) is what makes her an interesting character and it gives her more depth than the simplistic moeblob she appears to be at first glance.
Alright, so Geoff mentioned Chika being self-serving, but she can be downright monstrous in the manga. She manipulates Iino to her own ends, bullies Ishigami, and roasts Shirogane. It is astounding how delightfully and hilariously evil her character gets.
In the few episodes I've ventured into of Love is War. I've come to realize that probably more than any other rom com I've ever seen, it delivers on the com part of rom-com. Whereas others seem to operate on awkwardness and cringe to drive the humor, Kaguya-sama is a master of that kinda humor and far more. I never thought as a dude I'd appreciate the lighthearted rom-com that is Kaguya-sama Love is War.

i think my favourite thing about chika is that you realise more and more that she's literally the antagonist of the series, even more so in the manga. Basically everything the two main protagonists do is usually planned around chika so as to avoid and distract her with something else as much as physically possible because she can and will destroy literally every plan they could come up with

I think the fact you can give an accurate summation of what would happen if the Student Council was asked "Who is Best Girl?", yet still be able to discuss the basics of just how complex these characters are speaks VOLUMES on all their character designs.
You know them well enough that you can get a feel for what they would do in a situation, yet the reasons why or the exact details of how it plays out are a whole story by themselves. Much of the same can be said about close friends or relatives, which makes this kind of character design beautiful!!!

Underselling best boy Miyuki I see. I consider him the other half of the show; he's just similar enough to Kaguya in ambition and intelligence that them clashing wits is entertaining and funny, but is distinct from Kaguya in upbringing and temperament making the cutesy scenes between him and Kaguya work. He's just a genuinely sweet and sometimes even passionate guy, but doesn't want to appear weak to anyone, especially Kaguya, hence why neither of them admit their feelings to the other. His family is broke and come from nothing, yet he can still work his way to be the Student Council President of this prestigious school AND is a genuinely nice guy. Also the bags under his eyes...I feel that. He's definitely relatable and not too generic like many male love interests in these kinds of shows tend to be.
He's also responsible and can cook...c'mon that is top tier waifu material right there.
He isn't female and doesn't count as waifu, I think. But he could be eventually the best husbando...

While Chika is one of those "established" waifus, I see Kaguya as an ever-exponentially developing type of waifu that is very exciting to watch. Hayasaka however is more of a wild card, even more so than Chika.

I thought chika is the best at giving romantic advice because she doesn’t overthink stuff like kaguya and shirogane do, and has more experience-not with romance, but with girl talk. Girls give advice to each other about this type of thing all the time(I think, I’m not a girl).

Have to say that is the best analysis of Chika's character I've ever heard. Usually people completely gloss over her mean streak and view her as only this pure and fluffy comic relief character. I think her egotistical and condescending nature (she is a politicians daughter after all) is what makes her an interesting character and it gives her more depth than the simplistic moeblob she appears to be at first glance.

Alright, so Geoff mentioned Chika being self-serving, but she can be downright monstrous in the manga. She manipulates Iino to her own ends, bullies Ishigami, and roasts Shirogane. It is astounding how delightfully and hilariously evil her character gets.

In the few episodes I've ventured into of Love is War. I've come to realize that probably more than any other rom com I've ever seen, it delivers on the com part of rom-com.
Whereas others seem to operate on awkwardness and cringe to drive the humor, Kaguya-sama is a master of that kinda humor and far more.
I never thought as a dude I'd appreciate the lighthearted rom-com that is Kaguya-sama Love is War.
