Ekkrugg in Mai’s sister’s arc, she literally tries to kill herself with the excuse “my sister is the better version of me, and I’m just going to keep disappointing everyone.”
Sakuta and Mai’s flirting is the most authentic feeling in all of anime in my opinion. It is so witty and cute and is what so many of us dorks want at some point. It really makes you root for them and want to see more of them in the future.

Dude when i first watched the show for mere curiosity , I wasn't expecting this. I thought it was a harem , a hentai , or something with massive ammounts of fan service. But in a day i watched the whole thing + the movie .I'm not the usual dude who likes anime that makes you 'feel' , I'm the one who sits through shonens and thats all, but after watching this , i felt like my chest was being pressured , I was nervous all along and almost cried (I'm not saying this to flex like I don't have feelings , but I don't usually cry when watching stuff). Loved it a lot , It's one of those anime that makes you feel some type of way . I will always remember it.

The last 2 episodes deadset made me cry, dunno but i totally thought they'd just be about Mai-san and Sakuta's love escalating which did happen, but i love how they used those 2 episodes to shed light on his sister's mental health issue instead. Totally unexpected and impressed

That scene when Mai and Sakuta are laying on the floor in his living room, and they try to kiss but accidentally bump into each other is classic. The way Sakuta blames it on her looking away and the following moments feel cringy but it's so natural and it captured the awkwardness of teenage love perfectly. It felt like a real interaction and wasn't blown out of proportion.

I think the reason they didn’t give them a kissing scene is to, um, show how true their love is. It shows us that their love isn’t based on sexual things but mutual understanding and _true love_ . Most shows show the characters kissing just to finalize that they’re a couple but bunny girl senpai’s director showed us that they were, like, made for each other and are willing to take sacrifices for each other. They don’t need kisses or anything of that sort to hang out. They have all the satisfaction from just looking in each other’s eyes and cherishing every moment together. Idk if u guys understand this. Pls forgive me

The only moments where I almost cry were when Kaede went back to normal cause the Kaede we all know is way more adorable in the way she talked and how she woke Sakuta up everyday and the PANDAS. The damn PANDAS.
literally two years of memories and experiences are gone. everything they two have been through is just gone and that is really hard to realise and accept for sakuta. it feels like a different person to him and the fact that kaede is not really interested in pandas hit him hard. just imagine your sister just swaps between personalities 2 times. in the beginning it was also really hard to accept for sakuta and now a second time, wow. but i look froward for them two, they will always have their bond

This broke my heart seeing this. It was sad watching the kaede we know and love basically die for the kaede before her incident. Everything we knew and experienced with her never happened and sakuta had to experience it twice. It was awesome seeing kaedes love for her brother he the catalyst to bring her back to normal and become the independent person she wants to be while getting over her adolescence syndrome but it was still heartbreaking with seeing panda loving kaede vanish and sakutas reactions to losing the sister he spent two years protecting and caring for for an entirely different personality.
I just finished it and I cried bro cuz kaede was my baby panda child 😤🥺

The first time sakuta notices Mai is because she's in a bunny/rabbit costume
That led to both of them getting closer together
And without him knowing, that one library interaction would get him into more puberty syndrome incidents

I actually avoided this anime because of the name unfortunately.
After watching the series and the movie, I can comfortably say that it is leagues above any of my other favourite animes. I have never felt so passionate and never been so emotional towards an anime like how I am with this. It is just simply amazing and will most likely always be my favourite.

@@ReziKureizi It depends on how you look at it. I think because there was a "half of me in the future and present" there is an implication that there is still the original time line where Mai died. We as the audience dont see it directly, but they still exist.

This anime really made me look at life differently.

I’m 2 months later but I just finished it right now. Here are my thoughts, this anime was sooooooo controversial. It is insane how they managed to do it. The anime could have ended in episode 3 and I would have been happy. But the fact they talked about mental issues and everyday problems are incredible. Super underrated anime.
I cried multiple times and not many shows do that too me.

I think the syndrome reacts to how a certain person is emotionally and mentally, for example, when Sakuto feels depressed or angry or confused or has deep mixed feeling, it hurt and cuts onto his heart literally like the syndrome is allowing the body to literally respond how he is feeling, because he had mixed feeling of what happened to his little sister so maybe the adolescent syndrome is based on a certain person's emotional and mental responses to an atmosphere or in this case SOCIETY around you but that's my opinion
I just finished this and I felt empty but happy at the same time. It truly is a master piece.

This is the very definition of "Don't judge a book by it's cover."
This series was unexpectedly relatable and realistic despite the supernatural aspects of it. Couple that with the relationships, the dialogue, the charming animation and expression, and just the overall plot paired with smaller arcs and you end up with a series that is absolutely brilliant! It avoids being lazy when it easily could and ends up being a deep, yet entertaining series I would wholeheartedly recommend. Well as long as you make it clear that it's not as erotic as the title might suggest.

@@MoonlightFox I haven't dug up on the theme, but if it was directly adapted from LN (was it?) to anime I could see why they used that visual format for the anime. And yes, the good' ol' "non-moving chin, only mouth" or the classic "cover my mouth with a notebook" trick to save budget.
Well, you could say that "the crowd" is an important character in this show. Makes sense they'd put a bit more effort in making it look good.

The plot was deeper than any of us thought
I just finished the anime after being hooked on it and pulling an all nighter. The amount of feelings I felt throughout the series was nothing less than an emotional roller coaster. Even though I knew that at the end of every ark, Sakuta would somehow pull through find all the clues and fix the problem but at the same time I couldn’t help but be at the edge of my seat every time a new problem aroused and become more and more engaged in the characters. It hit me hard when I finally realized what the series was about when I took a minute to reflect on everything that happened especially after losing Kaede and Shoko might’ve never existed. I couldn’t help but cry when I realized the Kaede everyone knew wasn’t coming back even though I wished and wished it was awful and made my gut churn with guilt that I didn’t see her for a real character that was part of the plot until her ark but it also made me realize that her memories are still apart of me and everyone who shared the bittersweet ending with me. I can’t help but feel like I made a connection with these characters and everyone who watched this series.

It was so cleverly done that I think we all felt just as robbed of Kaede as Sakuta did in the end.

I just finished the movie and it gave me a roller coaster feelings. It is my first time saying this but I kinda think this is the best anime I ever watched. I'm totally in loved with every character and I really think it's perfect.
There's a lot of things in this Anime that made me cry, laugh, thrilled, curious, angry(with the character decisions), sad and love. I'm so relieved and happy that after all that, it has a happy and satisfying ending since Makinohara, Mei and Sakuta lived. I really wish I get to see more anime like this.

@@Rj-bx9il Ok so everything up until the ending was shokos dream because when she restarted and completed the 4th grade assignment so she didn’t get puberty syndrome so everything that’s was in shokos dream became reality hence why they said they were living in the future not the present so in the end everyone was fine because where the movie left off sakuta remembers shoko due to memory’s across the timelines and that’s why it was named rascal does not dream of a dreaming girl and that’s as far as it goes for the anime/movie but there are light novels which I have not read because i don’t like lite novels

This anime can be more relatable when you are an introvert.
Sakuta and Mai's flirting is not only authentic but refreshing to say the least. The characters are witty, realistic, relatable and act like normal teens, despite the fact that they're invisible to society. It's awkward, and yet sly and we see the cute and shy sides of them. As much as I idolize the generics of most anime, seeing something that I can parallel is enjoyable. Despite being animation it's just teenage life. Instead of crazy, over the top reactions to most scenarios, this is real teenage drama (albeit the whole paranormal syndrome thing). And I get to learn about Quantum Physics, with a few episodes of Dr. Stone sprinkled here and there. And thank fuck for a Male MC who actually has a brain inside his head, for being "Sharp witted, brash, and quick in a field mostly dominated by idiots and doormats" if this isn't a synopsis of most rom-com, fantasy/isekai, school/harem anime, then I dont know what is. Words cannot describe how infatuated I am with Sakuta's character. _Bruh_ it is a fucking *MIRACLE*

Can I just say I'm thoroughly impressed with this show just for doing the full monty of "Let's put these two characters together, but have their hookup be neither instantaneous nor at the END of a show"? And just the whole schtick of our dear Rascal both acknowledging attraction to the various other girls involved, (or NOT in the case of his sister) while also staying loyal emotionally to the girl he's in love with? Like. Damn. That's a feat these days.

Well of course, that's how it plays out, Rascal doesn't follow your tropes, he goes against the grain.
Not to mention, as the video said, Sakuta is also *not* one of those typical dense and/or dumbass MCs who are purposely made into "underdogs" (and yet are made to look like pretty boys) purely for the sake of teasing potential relationships (and usually ending openly) and creating artificial drama with "misunderstandings" and such.
Basically, Sakuta is an actual character with a more unique and defined personality, his own established life within the story's universe, rather than simply being a "blank slate" character with minimal personality made for beta male viewers to be able to self-insert as just so they can fantasize being with their favorite walking trope-er, girl in the series or even all of them at once without consequence.
This exact thing happens in Bakemonogatari, made 9 years ago.
In fact, I think Hitagi and Koyomi might have a somewhat open or poly relationship, considering that both of them fool around with other characters to some degree, but it doesn't effect their love for each other. It's kind of wholesome.
Er, but having the characters become a couple early on in the show isn't actually all that new or subversive. Monogatari did it in like 2009. Even SAO did the same thing with Jesus-kun and asuna.

The first episode really made me want to watch it because of how it was delivered. it was so good that I was intrigued. then the second episode gave you the taste of what is happening in the anime and how serious it could be. and the third episode was so good in terms of how Mai's case was severe that I hope it didn't end in that way.
this literally took me five episodes to realize that Puberty Syndrome was the main reason for the random things that happened with the main characters. Before then I was so damn confused lol, great anime tho :)

They show these messages in some of the most beautiful ways and it's truly interesting and even encouraging to hear about these deeper stories. This is one of the best romcom-slice of life anime i have ever seen. The way it manages to create a building chemistry between the love interest while being able to talk about important issues of highschool students is amazing

A lot of the best shows this year are shows no one expected much from. Bunny Girl Senpai sounded dumb before it came out, but once it aired, it drew a lot of comparisons to Haruhi, Kokoro Connect, and Monogatari. A Place Further than the Universe was treated like the extreme of cute girl shows for its premise, but in spending the entire show setting it up and taking it seriously, it became the best show of the year. Hinamatsuri, like other found-family shows, had to deal with the spectre of Bunny Drop that prompts viewers to avoid the genre until they get confirmation that a show doesn't switch to raise-your-own-wife, and it was hilarious and heartbreaking. It's a trend.

This is an anime that when I think about I just get sad and feel like I missed something and want to rewatch it.
I must say that this is the first anime that compelled me to cry. Thinking about Sakuta that how he must had felt when he realized that the last two years he spent with his sister were wiped out of her memory but no matter what he will still cherish those memories of her. Kinda felt bad for him. But nevertheless, the ending was pretty good.

While the saying "read the atmosphere" does indeed exist in American English, there's no one word that means that saying. Much like "schadenfreude" means "taking pleasure in another's misery" in German, and while other languages do indeed have that saying, they don't have a specific word assigned to mean that saying.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I think Jeff's interpretation factors in more the Asian cultural elements of face and deference but that's the closest we have.

This is very well written. I love that the main character is a good dude and actually jokes about shit we guys joke about. Hes not a selfish pig or a jackass. Not alot of main characters are built like this. He feels like hes around and involved vs "plot armor Mc". I love how much he wants to constantly tell mai he loves her and even though its cheesy in a sense in some areas, Its still feels believable and genuine. I rooted for him the whole way as his personally and humor matches my own. Mai stepping on his foot is super cute btw. I love how much they play around with each other and trust each other. Great show overall and a refreshing take on the genre.
Just finished the series and looking to watch the movie. I loved this series as an 18-yr-old myself because it made legit problems that modern youth experience feel like actual, physical problems that need to be addressed. It doesn't belittle those who are going through issues. It, in a fun and balanced way, shows through realism and supernatural ways what these issues feel like and what they actually do to people. Like Kaede develops Dissociative Personality Disorder as a result of being bullied so harshly. As someone who has friends who've developed mental disorders because of bullying, her arc really hit home with me. Between wanting to be a good big brother and wanting to help those going through tough times, this show has very relatable characters. They aren't perfect but they're treated as young adults still growing and finding their way in life. The series also brought me to tears a couple times. I also love how Mai and Sakuta have a healthy relationship as opposed to Yunna's. On paper, it feels like a weird harem romcom but in actuality, Bunny Girl Senpai is a series that executes what it feels like to be a struggling youth in the modern era to a near perfect degree. It's beautiful and enthralling while fantastical and whimsical in metaphorical ways.

I was wondering if you could help me understand a bit of the show. I just watched it myself and am currently reading the manga as well, but I seem to be missing something. While it is important for Sakuta to admit his love for Mai in order to cure her of her adolescence syndrome, what role did that play for him in his life? Going back and reading the manga after watching the anime, it seems to be hinted that Mai knew Sakuta before he met her in the library, which leads me to believe that they were close before and he was just struggling to admit his feelings for her, which made her feel invisible because hes the one she loves. Maybe I am misunderstanding, but that is what i've interpreted so far!
@@PncK64 I haven't read the manga or original visual novels but I get the feeling that Sakuta and Mai didn't know each other beforehand. I think it helped him because it gave him a support system. She really helped him deal with both Kaede and Shoko and just being a dude. Having someone you can be intimate and weak with is important for people, health-wise. I think perhaps they saw each other but never interacted with each other a lot before the series tho. Also, I think the overall main reason Mai started disappearing is because of being a child actress and the stress and pressure of not being a celebrity anymore made here feel like she was disappearing from the world, which manifested itself as her disappearing from the world.
Actual good plot with legit dialogue and spot on pacing is what this anime is to me

I just love hove the interactions between every character feels so natural, also the way that Sakuta behaves when the "atmospher"(the mood) has some expectations of him and he just ignore it because it doesn't need to be what are you supposed to do is what you want to do as individual(obviously there are sometimes that you the atmospher because is line with your goals , but that doesn't always is the case). Also the animation, art, and ost are beautiful.and so far is the best anime for this season at least for me
