  • I've had my Farmall 460 for a few years now and put some clips together talking about the mostly pros I've found in using it. Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
    OPPS!!!
    I said it was a live PTO... it's an Independent PTO.
    I forgot to mention the LP fuel option.

    Dan Gingell of J&D Productions in Michigan. Told us about one, a number of years ago, I think it was an International utility version where a customer of his bought one off of somebody who had disguised a bad motor by deadening a spark plug on a ‘58 460! You know, when the spark plug wire was on on that cylinder, it was popping and banging something wicked! But when he pulled the wire off that cylinder, the pops and bangs went away. I can’t believe somebody would do that, especially on such a nice tractor as this.

    The Farmall 460 is my favourite of all the Farmall tractors. I'm a standard tread guy... But if we sell most of our collection, and I only keep one Farmall, it would be the 460.

    We have a 1959 Farmall 460G with a wide front and fast hitch. We got it in 1970, and it was the big tractor on the farm until a 706G came along in 1982. The 460 is still used a ton. It is awesome for the old crank rakes, as you can leave the setting where you want it and use the fast hitch for travel or going over rows.

    I bought a 560 (non-running) pretty cheap. Still fixing it up. Explained my intentions of making it a raking tractor to my neighbor. His reply “fix it up, add upgrades. Still at the end of the day, you’ll have a sh*tty 560 with a problematic final drive!”. After seeing photos of the 560 in the field back in the day, no wonder why the final drive failed!!!
    The M, Super M, 400,450, 460 and 560 are great small hay farming tractors! They’re also cheap and easy to work on!

    Good tractors, i spent a lot of time on 560 diesle. Still have it. Used to take it tractor pulling. I brought home many trophies 3020, 4010, 4020 owners would of liked to have had. It was hard to beat in 8500-9500lb classes

    I grew up on a 460. It struggled with 3-14s in the clay on my parents farm, some places plowing in 1st with ta back while 1 mile away on neighbors it would pull it in 3rd! Fond memories.

    I have the triangle mark on my 460 Farmall. I kinda wished I had the narrow front end. My 460 leaks hydraulic fluid out the steering bolster. I think there are a couple of o-rings that need replacing. It had a loader on it that I hope to sell. I have a skidsteer so I don't need that. Loaders are a slow death for farm tractors. I hope to find a three bottom plow for it. Thanks for sharing!

    We have both a 460 gas and a 560 diesel , both have narrow front ends . They are great for putting the bigger disc (28ft. ), field cult (30 ft.) , and even our 900 bu. auger cart away . Will never ever sell them that is for sure , just too handy .

    The 460 was a good all around tractor but one thing for sure theres no excuse for poor maintainance,nearly lost my life on one when the steering shaft separated and the steering was without control the steering wheel disconnected itself from the front gearing where the steer shaft came along side the engine and went back into the bolster.the fellas who owned the farm had been putting it off for years because they didn't think it was bad enough to repair it.

    I had one years ago and was always told they had weak rear-ends. I didn't have rear end trouble, but can't say the same for the TA. It was a good riding and handling tractor though.

    • @medowbrookfarm9731
      @medowbrookfarm9731  Před 4 lety +1

      IH went a bit overboard on their rear end recall campaign. They fixed the problem early on, but the fix had such huge publicity that it's memory probably became a bigger "problem" then the issue itself had. My Farmall lived 20 years of it's life under a corn picker and the axle are just fine.

  • @TheDurnans
    @TheDurnans Před 2 lety +1

    My father had a 460. I was told that it had a 'power pack' which gave it a few more horsepower. Before my father bought it, the 460 was fitted with a corn picker. The tinwork was all beat up by the time we got it. We used it to bale hay on our small farm.
    It had a very smooth running 6 cylinder with a very unique, unforgettable sound to it. The T/A was great for climbing hills with two loaded hay racks behind you, but don't forget to disengage before going down the other side of the hill! I'd rather have a 460 over an M Farmall any day.

    I have a 460 factory no T/A. It's putting out about 65 HP out of a gas engine. I have an f-11 loader on it and use it to load hay. Works like a champ.

    We had a 760 and the biggest drawback was the extremely low ground clearance do to the drawbar design. Might not matter on hay but in field tillage it was always getting stuck where any other tractor would not.

The only time i had a light rear wheel was doing what i shouldnt have done but i was fine because i dumped my hydraulics. I want more wheel wieghts but a wide front wouldnt help. I have buried my tractor about as bad as the pic but i was in the woods so 2.5 hrs with a 4 ton come along and i was free

    Hey would it be possible to give you a call sometime? I have a 460 myself that we are using on our operation. We should get our ground certified organic this year Lord willing 😃 I’m planing to get more ground and really don’t know what the limitations are for a 460. I really like it but wonder if I should get a bigger tractor. Only problem with that is it cost money 💰 and we are just getting started and I don’t have allot of extra dooooow laying around lol. Anyway thanks for the great video and if you would be ok with a phone call please let me know. Thank you and God bless 😁

      @hturbo1007 Před 4 lety +1

      @Mr. Sunshine sorry to disappoint YOU, I've plowed circles around 460s with my M. A 460 that has been overhauled and turned into a 560 ,is a different animal though.

    • @hturbo1007
      @hturbo1007 Před 4 lety

      @Mr. Sunshine I think you're confusing the M with the H. The M is a three bottom tractor like the 460 .they both came out of the factory with about the same horsepower. The 460s horsepower is being robbed by the live power, the live hydraulics, the power steering, and the PTO break. I know you must have a hard on for the 460 ,but come on now. I happen to know some old retired farmers that traded M 's in back in the 60's, and were very disappointed when they were plowing. Your 460 must have been overhauled and turned into a 560. Not hard to do!
